Hope everyone is enjoying a nice weekend. Even though rain is supposed to be moving in later today, it has been sunny here so far. Had a family reunion yesterday and enjoying catching up with my DH's side of the family.

The beach sounds wonderful! We are hearing up for some big storms this afternoon! The wind is just whipping! I need to pack because I am heading to the state quilt show for a few days! I can't wait!

Going to the beach today with my DD2 and her friend. I usually only get to go to the beach once a year. I will wear lots of sunscreen, take a beach umbrella, and give my sore feet the sand and salt water treatment.

It is heating up again so I think I will be living in the air conditioned house more than outside. I don't mind hot, but the humidity is something else. Even the dog like it better inside!

Thanks Laperle for your encouragement and advise. One day at a time it is. Count my blessings and if it's out of my control, let it go. Taking care of my health will help me.

EACHMOMENT2--Sounds like you have been extremely busy. As to coping with an empty nest, you take one day at a time and focus on you for a few days. Make your fitness, eating nutritious food, etc. a priority. You will always be concerned and think (worry) about your children, but you have to trust that your influence while they were growing up taught them to be safe and take care of themselves. Just pray for their well being and safety. Good Luck!

Crazy, busy weekend tending my children, rather than a garden. DD1 got married in a civil ceremony that was thrown together in less than a week. I had 2 days notice. It turned out better than I expected. It was very small, so that helped. The meal was a potluck cookout. Then the next day another cookout for DD2 given by friends because she is going to basic training in 3 weeks. I have no idea how I ate, but I really didn't eat huge amounts. Too nervous and too busy. I will have an empty nest very soon. How do I cook for two again? How do I fill the time and cope with the solitude? How do I not worry about them?( tend to be a stress eater) This is a huge life change for me. I'm kind of spinning.

Still picking cherries, seems like they will never end, blueberries are starting, got them covered with the net yesterday, and of course there are tons of raspberries, love the summer fruit. I noticed the yellow transparents are getting big, a couple of weeks and some of them will be ready, I love to dry the not quite ripe ones for a tasty treat. Herb garden and greens are wonderful, fresh beat greens last night!

It is overcast here at this time today, but it might be a perfect day to get some of my tomato plants pruned and staked up. One raised bed looks like a jungle and the tomato plants are obscuring the zucchini! Have lots of small tomato plants in this raised bed that are coming up from seed from last year's cherry tomatoes that didn't get picked. Hate to pull them up, but they are taking over the whole bed!

Getting a slow start this morning, but need to get my workout done soon. I am enjoying this drier air and hope that everyone else is too. Have a basket that needs to be finished today and then also need to complete two that were ordered a while ago. Hope everyone is planning a fantastic weekend. The weather is supposed to be good.

The quote on Spark Daily today really hit home. It was about worrying over things you can't control. It is pointless and useless to expend energy on that kind of worrying. I have had a lot of " out of my control" happenings the last few month. I have worried too much. Need to take time to put it into perspective so I enjoy life more. Enjoy the beautiful weather!

Happy Thursday, everyone! Got to the gym again this morning (proud feeling) but now that lunchtime is here I am ready for a siesta!

This is my bargain to myself...have lunch, relax, do as I please until 2pm. At that time, electronics get turned off! I can still do what I wish, but not sitting on the couch or in front of the computer.

Why am I boring you with this post you might ask? Well, if I make it public I am accountable, right?

Enjoy the beauty of today!

t sounds like everyone is experiencing as a busy a July as I am. My garden is starting to produce--love to go out and pick a handful of greens each noon to make a fresh salad for lunch--but like everyone here the time is at a premium. I too have blueberries that will be ready soon if I can keep the birds for eating them. Also, I hope everyone is coming through the recent terrible storms with little damage. Last night's storm was much too close to us for comfort. Stay safe everyone.

Life just keeps on coming. It seems we are working harder and paying more and not making much forward progress. Hope Chris is right that if we do that for our health we will reap a reward and it will help us to be successful in meeting so many of life's challenges. I am going to get back to my Peggy Cappy Yoga. I really need exercise that doesn't add stress but eases it. Trying to walk between the storms or exercise in the humidity doesn't work right now, but I need to do some kind of exercise.

Hello again! I have been off the grid for awhile vsiting friends and then taking an overnight trip to visit my husband at the summer camp he was working at. Now that I am finally home it is a slam back to reality! Car work yesterday to the tune of $300. Then a doctor's appointment today for an annual physical that also included two shots, a blood pressure prescription and orders for bloodwork! Ugh. Anything for my health though!

If it is to be, it is up to me!

Seems like things just tumble over each other in July, I picked cherries, a gallon of each sour and sweet cherries, then spent an hour pitting the sour cherries. Today I wanted to go for a walk before bed and wondered down to the raspberry patch and much to my dismay the raspberries are ready, no time to pick for the next few days so I called a friend to see if she wanted some, hopefully she calls back or I will be picking raspberries in the morning instead of going to bed! The yellow transparent apples are getting big, I would love to dry some just before they get ripe, hopefully there is time. Seems like everything is bursting with fruit this year, blueberries will be ready soon, and the plums are getting big, haven't even been down to see the blackberries yet!

Hope everyone is having a good summer so far!

Guess we all have busy schedules this month. I spent yesterday in Oquossoc at another craft fair, and although cool the day was gorgeous! It was their strawberry festival and the crowd was great. Need to catch up with everything today, as my vehicle hasn't yet been unloaded. Also need to get busy weaving as the inventory is getting too thin considering the number of fair I have scheduled for August. Glad to seem a few more posts, but do understand how busy everyone is. Have a great weekend everyone.

Hi Barb! I just need more patience. You have had a BUSY week. I don't know how you farmers do it. Your farm sounds beautiful. I must have been on vacation too. Taking care of the home front and grateful for the time off work to do so.

July is feeling like a lonely month. Can you believe it has been 3 days since anyone has posted. I hope it is because you all are having a wonderful Maine summer time. I've been busy too, but with work at home, helping neighbor, helping DD move, and broken trucks. Ready for a vacation (what's that? LOL). Still getting some walks in and there was lots of exercise with the moving.

We were lucky were I was on the 4th, rain didn't start until night and ended the next morning about 10 or so, all in all it was a beautiful week to be on vacation. I still have 4 more days off, doing stuff around the house and yard for a few days, mowed the lawn, some weeding and need to bush hog a pasture. Can't believe how much things grow in a week, not only tomatoes and corn but chickens, ducks and turkeys! Stopped at Plants Unlimited with some Buck Bucks and got some fun plants, a fig tree, a myer lemon along with some herbs, lemon verbena, purple sage, thyme, summer savory, and some small creeping thyme, woolly, and elfin.

That storm did make for an interesting weekend and 4th. We had a family meal on the 4th but went to rescheduled fireworks on the 5th. They were spectacular! Some folks in Maine have rescheduled fireworks to look forward to later in the summer.

Congrats Laperle on your placing in the artisan division! Your baskets must be beautiful. You must be stronger than you think to hold on to your canopy when others blew away.

My elderly parents left this morning, to go home to WA, after a nice 10 day visit. I see them once a year, most years. It is a shame we live so far apart. Today is regrouping with laundry and helping DD1 move out to her own place again. She is excited, it's a good thing. How do you track the exercise of moving boxes and furniture?

Need to get into a routine so that I can make more progress for my health. I will use the quiet moments to plan so that hopefully next week I can really implement. Make those goals , but more importantly how I am going to reach them.

What a weekend! Woke up to Saturday morning at 3:30 to high winds and pouring rain, but had faith and headed to Bethel a little before 6:00 AM to take part in the Bethel Art Fair.
Got everything unloaded and set up and felt very lucky as the rain had stopped before I got to Bethel. The wind, however, was another matter. There were gust all day that took some peoples displays and canopies down. Other than a few baskets blowing around my display held up, and the canopy was okay as well. I did spend a lot of time hanging onto the canopy during the higher gusts (soar muscles because of this) even though it was staked down. The real highlight of the show was that I was awarded third place in the artisan division for the piece I had entered. Now on to the Strawberry Festival in Oquossoc on Thursday. Hoping that we will have good weather for that day.

Hi everyone - Hope the rain didn't stop anyone from having a great 4th of July. Needless to say that the rain stopped the fireworks that I can see from my apartment. I live in Westbrook. Today is a new week. Let us rejoice and be glad for this is the day the Lord has made. Hugs emoticon

Happy Fourth!

We finally got our storm in the middle of the night. We missed a window in our late night scramble so I am up early cleaning up that mess. Later I will head to Millinocket to spend a few days with my parents. I haven't been home for a Fourth of July in 12 years!

Enjoy and stay safe!

Am going to have to go to the Maine Botanical gardens someday. They sound so interesting. Some very scary storms around here yesterday. A house just a little bit up the hill from us was struck by lightning and was very badly damaged. Hope that everyone takes necessary precautions during bad storms and stays as safe as possible.

Took my folks who are visiting from WA to the Maine Botanical Gardens yesterday. Too much walking is hard for them so we took the tour cart first. So glad we did. They had such a good day. It was my first time there too. We visited some gardens close to the visitor center on foot and there were plenty of benches to rest. Ate yummy salads at the café. Missed a swim today. I need to just grab the bull by the horns and go to the pond. Weather threatening to roll in at the moment, but it may fizzle out. The cloud cover and breeze is a little cooling.

A couple of the meals I am considering for this very hot week are Chicken Sausages (the ones that are about 4" long and contain cheese, etc.) done with mixed bell peppers and onions served on a whole wheat roll. I sometimes do spicy oven fries to go with them or sliced cucumbers and tomatoes. Also make a macaroni salad using whole grain pasta with some grilled chicken diced into it and plenty of veggies vidallia onions, green peppers, cucumber and maybe a couple of hard boiled eggs. I use mostly greek low fat yogurt for the dressing with just a little low fat mayonnaise for dressing--add herbs, etc. to your taste. Hope everyone is staying cool and drinking their water.

Thanks for starting a thread for July!

Amazing how quickly summer flies, hard to believe we are already in July!

Does anyone have a favorite summer meal they use often? something quick and easy?

Have a great month!

Here is the new board for the month of July. I too have a magic bullet and have made some very good smoothies. I have not tried anything else with it though. Guess I will have to try doing more. Hope everyone is managing to stay cool with this heat. I try to make my trips outside as brief as possible. I am hoping that the weekend is not as humid. For those who like craft sales and also like to plan ahead, I will be in Bethel on Saturday at the Art show, and in Oquossoc on Thursday July 10th, at the Strawberry Festival.
