I know it may not be ideal, but here are some of my fall back routines when the weather isn't so great outside:

1) pop in a Leslie Sanson DVD (she has 1 mile, 2 mile, or 3 mile options....maybe longer distances on other DVDs)

2) play around on the Wii

3) Hip Hop Abs or Turbo Jam dvd

4) kettlebell workout

5) I have a spin bike in the basement, but I can only do 10-15 mins at a time, even with padded seat

6) browse thru the on demand section of DIRECTV and see what types of new workouts I'd like to try and/or download

7) use hand weights or exercise bands while watching TV

8) I don't live close enough to a mall, but another thing I've done is walk the perimeter of Walmart (or large grocery store if already headed there) a few times (better achieved late at night when the store isn't as crowded).

I love walking but not in extreme weather be it hot or cold. I do however venture out and walk in the snow (not ice) for a short workout on occasion. It's a good workout and I do sweat once I get started.

I have a treadmill and my apartment complex has a small gym that I frequent to use the elliptical.

My cable company has a on demand work outs channel. I did a kickboxing one this morning. Good workout.

I am blessed to live in the south where it doesn't get very cold and to live in an apartment complex that has a fitness center. There are all kinds of videos on YouTube you can do to get in a good workout. One of my favorites is Blogilates with Cassie Ho. She does monthly calendars that she sends to your email with the new password. She does cheap clean eats and the one thing that I've tried was really good. If you have a WII or a tablet or a smart phone you can download the YouTube app or you can do YouTube on the computer. Good luck.

I agree it is hard to go out in the middle of the day. There are a lot of distractions. I do layer and am careful but even the weather makes it hard to go out as I don't do ice or snow and limited visibility and poor road/sidewalk condition makes it very hard to go.

Some people mall walk or join a gym during the winter months. There are many that offer a month to month membership. I don't recommend joining a gym for years as the average time most are active with their memberships is 6 weeks. Paying month by month gives you gym time when it is cold and dark and gives you the outside as soon as it gets warmer and lighter. For me that is February.

I run outside in the summer but I don't do cold so I have a treadmill in my garage that I run on in the winter. It's still cold out there but not as cold as outside and I warm up once I get going. I cut my workouts back to 3 days a week in the winter because it's cold and I don't want to get out of bed but I also cut my calorie intake to balance it out and maintain my weight. I work out at 5:00 a.m. because I find too many distractions after work. You'll figure it out. Good luck!

in the winter i cut my walking down because i walk in the middle of the day instead of the morning and i end up gaining weight. i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. i read the thread making your workout work for you and i guess i could start an exercise routine in the morning but was wondering if anyone one else had ideas.
