another update - we are now close to 75 pounds down - things will slow more now as two meals a day (hi protein low carb) are incorporated. he still does the shake at breakfast as obviously it is easy before work.
there will be more socializing and restaurant meals as spring and summer come along - sticking with fish choices, light beverage choices and no desserts.
now he must focus on more exercising to move more weight off - and tighten skin and tone muscles.

i wanted to follow up on the success with optifast - it was CONVENIENT - it was FAST and EASY - in this instance for a good amount of weight loss in a relatively short time before surgery and for imminent surgery - IT WAS GREAT.
my son dropped at the rate of 1 pound per day. he was allowed to have egg white omelette and unsalted raw almonds from time to time. he was NOT HUNGRY AT ALL.
when he finished the shakes - the doc moved him over to ready meal replacement shakes for once to twice daily and one good well balanced meal a day. he as dropped another 10 pounds for a total weight loss of 40 pounds.
he is continuing this last regimine - he will have another minor surgery in about three weeks and hopes to acheive another 10 pound loss.
i am so pleased for him - and he feels just fine.

oprah was one of the celebrities who did this way back when. she was successful but as soon as she went back to ordinary foods - she started to gain wt. back. that is my fear - altho he thought he would do this before surgery as doc recommended and then go back to wt. watchers or some controlled program to lose the rest of his wt. this would take him at least one year as he has a lot to lose before normal wt is reached.
i am supporting him by doing a 'version' with low carb smoothies i make myself - i will eat a pce of fruit for roughage - but for the most part - i am in solidarity with him for the entire four weeks. it does not bother me about the 'holidays' cause i do not eat 90% of that stuff anyway. there are no plans to go out- i do not eat out anymore due to a lot of circumstances -
i just want to help as much as i can - and i hope i lose some pounds too.
