Very true. What's even stranger is that my grandparents all lived well past their seventies, eating a lot of fried foods and red meat. They ate a lot of veggies to go with it, and they hardly ever ate out or ate fast food. One grandmother lived into her nineties. Every time we visited her, we had bacon and eggs for breakfast and either roast or fried chicken for lunch. Again, though...we rarely ate out. The food was home cooked and fresh, not processed. Makes you wonder, huh?

I know that both my Mom's and Dad's side died of cancers that were 'self-inflicted' ... lung cancer - lots of smokers. Also, both sides has diabetes - Type 2 diabetes - again, caused by horrible diets and not taking care of their bodies overall. Different generation, however. Funny, now that I've typed that out, I'm thinking that previous generations weren't as health conscientious as we are now and yet we have the highest rate of obesity of all time. Something to think about.

Both my mom and dad's family history is kind of sketchy. Unfortunately, my mother's only living relative of her mother is her aunt, so she doesn't really know much about her dad's side. We don't really talk about our history much...

i know a lot on both mom and dad - but found out a whole lot more when we contacted relatives we did not know existed with ancestry - quite the eye opener - and some of what we found out answered a lot of the questions we used to ponder years ago.

Not much. I mostly know about my mother's side which has a history of heart disease, HBP, asthma, sarcoidosis.

A little bit. But not very far back. The men in my dad's family have mostly died from heart failure. However, his dad and brother both died from cancer. Both were much younger than he is today, and he seems to be in good health, except for a muscular degenerative disease that he has. My mother's dad died from cancer; her mother had blood pressure issues, and I believe was eventually killed by stroke. My dad's mother live to be over 90 and just pretty much wore out her body. Her mind was gone, though, when she finally died. So I have a pretty mixed bag. My mother has some blood pressure issues, too. Both of my parents are turning 75 this year.

Half of my family is pretty much a total mystery. They live a world away and now that mom's gone, we have no contact. Dad's family is better known and I have 5 siblings who all live within 20 miles of me so I know their health issues.

a fair amount - I recently did ask my brothers for an update on theirs because I was being asked for it on some forms I was filling out.
