It's not the same as a broken bone, but my orthopedic Dr. wanted to do a knee replacement back in 2007. I felt I was too young as they may last for only 10-15 years. I took physical therapy and supartz shots in my knee. I lost 132 pounds and didn't have the surgery until 2/8/16 I believe that some Dr/'s just are in too much of a hurry to operate before trying other measures.

I knew the knee would have to be replaced, it was bone on bone, but with the shots every 9-12 months and the physical therapy I held off for 9 years.

I love SparkPeople

I broke a small one I my ankle. The dr told me I could walk while sitting down, in fact it would be good for me. It would keep the muscle in my legs, but very limited weight bearing walking. Some say it is cheating, but to me if you need to do it, it is ok, If you out the tracker on your ankle when you "walk" while sitting in a chair, it will count the movement of one foot.

I'm not sure how your break is, but my break and many others are aligned right, but need to stay that way. The cast does 2 things, one keeps it aligned right and 2 makes it so you can move it more and put more weight on it without causing harm. I was in South Texas and broke my ankle in August. The Doctor encouraged my to go with a walking cast because I could take it off to take a bath and he had seen problems when a person couldn't keep the area clean. He did say there would be a little more pain and I would have to be more aware of what I was doing so as to not cause more harm.

I have left Drs that just want to operate, but I would recommend you find one that will talk with you and explain the pros and cons. They do know what they are talking about. Sometimes they agree with the treatment the other Dr suggested, but at least they took the time to explain things to me.

Objects in the mirror will get thinner than they now appear

I broke my fibula 3 months ago and DH just fired my osteopath. He was getting particularly
insulting as I had refused surgery.

He had been xraying every 2 weeks and we kept asking not so often.

Well, this last xray shows it is slowly healing.

DH is cutting off the cast today and and an aircast is coming in from Amazon.

How can I start walking again?

I will be going to my regular GP in a couple weeks, so not sure what she is going to say. An ACI check. I feel so lost and vulnerable.
