If I ate as many calories as both FitBit and Spark say, I'm pretty sure I'd gain weight.

Welcome back!

To answer your question as best I can...

Fitbit calculates calories burned for all activity through the day... including the calories that you expend sitting back in a recliner and just breathing. ALL of these calories will cross over to sparkpeople, however it will only count actual active minutes towards your fitness goals. That being said, because all metabolic calories cross over, if you have your Sparkpeople set to "float" based on calorie burn (I believe it's automatically set for that anymore unless you go in and change it), it will appear as though you should be consuming a lot more calories than seems reasonable for weight loss. My advice is this... if you keep it at calorie expenditure dependent, aim for the LOW end of your calorie range for optimal weight loss. If you are expending a lot of actual fitness calories, then bump up your consumption.

I hope this was helpful!

Spark Cheers!

Hey Adlins, good to see you back!

I'm not tracking, but I was able to lose about 20 lbs a few years back by using fitbit's calorie count as a guideline.

I think you probably need to experiment and see where you land, try using the fitbit's numbers for a week, and see where you end up, it should tell you whether those numbers are close enough or not. After all, it's all estimates anyway.

I was telling to someone else about the same thing. I don't trust Fitbit's calorie burn or what they say you need. SP is a lot closer to what I think it should be and what I lost 50 pounds eating.

I am pretty sure Fitbit counts all your movement during the day. What I mean is that I get 6 miles walking a day in actual exercise. But I have circulation problems with my legs and the dr says moving my legs is good for me so I do a lot of pacing or stepping in place when in line and Fitbit says I get 13 miles a day. It shows twice the calorie burn, says I need to eat twice the calories and when I do other exercise it somehow manages to say I burned twice as many calories as SP.

Objects in the mirror will get thinner than they now appear

I'm guessing this has been asked before, but I'm circling back to SP in an attempt to get back on track. When it logs my Daily Activity it's way more calories than what my actual exercise is. This is upping my calorie allowance for the day. I can go with it or I can modify. What do y'all do?

I checked Fitbit and SP is actually allowing more calories than Fitbit. Just trying to get a feel for how I should do this.....

Thanks!
