Judy,

Since I've unlinked my account it's been much better for me. I can now use FB and SP the way I want without the crazy numbers.

Jadie,
I can see why you would disconnect from SP. My calories are adjusted, too, though I have set it up to do that in SP. It's just worse with the FB exercise added in. I just keep eating what I knew to be correct before I started using the FB.

Judy -

YES! I had linked my fitbit to sparkpeole and found it was giving me outrageous number for calories burned and changing my calorie range. The numbers just werent adding up correctly. I ended up unsyncing it and prefer manually entering the information into sparkpeople.

Judy,

It doesn't seem to work well for me to have FB and SP linked for my One. I think I will just track my steps on FB and manually add the exercise to SP. I track my food on SP so I'm not concerned about it being on FB. I tried forums and it doesn't seem like the One is very compatible with syncing exercise properly on FB. Other FBs may work better. If anyone has any insight let me know but I'm disconnecting them for now.

Charm,
I'm not sure how FB or SP calculate calories burned or exercise minutes vs. overall calories burned. I think it has something to do with one's BMR (are those the right letters?) - the calories one burns every day, breathing, eating, standing to do dishes, etc. If you do more general activity than your BMR, those calories are then counted on SP. (I think.) I haven't looked at the FB site to see what they're doing.

A perplexing thing to me is that on my Charge HR, if I press and hold the button on the side for a second, or so, a timer is started. I think it's an exercise timer. When I walked on my treadmill the other day, I used that feature, and I thought those minutes would end up on SP somehow. I don't think they did, although I did find them as generic exercise minutes on FB. It seems like one must find and enter the exercise completed on the Fitness Tracker on SP to have it counted. I may be all wet, though, because I'm just learning about my Charge HR.

I'll be interested to see any responses to help us clear up how these FitBits work.

Judy,

I'm going to give that a shot. I have changed my settings. Today the calories were right but I'm not sure why my active minutes are only showing as 7 minutes. I did a total of 68 minutes of aerobics. It shows in the activity record and I added the activity to get the calories. Does anyone know how FB calculates active minutes?

For the people who are having trouble syncing, how do you have the app set up on your phone? I have a Charge HR, so this might not be the same for you. Still, here is what I checked after reading your posts. If you select the menu, 3 bars, next to the word Dashboard, then select Devices, and then press on your FitBit. This opens up the settings. I checked to see how mine is set up. Under sync, I have my "All Day Sync" set to on. At the bottom of the list of settings, there is another setting "Always Connected", that I have turned off. (I'm not really sure what this one does for me.) My FB syncs throughout the day, and I have never noticed a lag. I haven't checked it specifically with the FB website (my account), but when I go there, I think it has the same information as the app on my phone and SP, so I think it's syncing, too.

Not sure this will be of any help, but maybe it's worth a try.

I just got my FB One a couple of days ago for my birthday. I linked it with SP. I am confused about the fitness tracking for the One. The One shows activity when I work out. I then updated the name of what I did so the steps could be associated with it. It does not show as exercise. I did 56 minutes and it came up as 15 minutes of activity. That is what came to SP as well. I''m not sure how to fix this.

I have noticed that where my FB will tell me something like 2,500 calories burned in a day, SP, for the same day, will say 600 burned. Does anyone know why the discrepancy exists? Is there a setting in SP I have failed to notice? Thanks for any help!

UPDATE: I just answered my own question. Apparently, SP takes the number of calories burned from FB and considers a portion of them as "exercise", rather than calories burned from all general activity. It's the number of "exercise" calories burned that gets listed in one's exercise tracker.

If anyone knows more about this, or if I'm in error, please let me know. Thank you!

I have also noticed that water does not sync from SP to FB. I don't want the double entry, and have continued to put water solely into SP. I am interested in knowing if there is a way to get the FB water to populate from entering it into SP.

Hi Fitbit Users. I have a problem with my Zip syncing also.the dashboard keeps telling me that I'm over on calories and my calories are 100 or 200 below what they are telling me. I do not put calories or water in Fitbit. It all goes into Spark. If they were syching it should match. Does anyone else have strange numbers?

Hi EVeryone,

I also find that food in SP links well, however, water does not. Since I always put it in SP, my fitbit stats for water look bad, and I usually don't remember to put them in both places.
Does anyone know if this can be fixed or who we can let know.

I can do this, and WE can do this.

Hi all ... is there a 'good way' to link SP with a FitBit AND a SPAT? I love the information that I get on my FitBit Charge HR, but, also have seen that my exercise 'doubles' in the tracker if I sync FitBit with SP while wearing the SPAT...any suggestions on how to best use both devices?

I have the SPAT still because it works like a charm (had a slight problem a few months ago, I suspect nothing more than a bad battery, because now it works just fine) - but wanted the additional benefits of tracking HR, Sleep, etc.

Once I linked my Fitbit to SP, it does not matter where I log my food, when I go to my fitness page there is a tab to sync my Fitbit, and it will sync my steps from my Fitbit and my food logged from Fitbit or food logged from SP to Fitbit.

At least that is what I have experienced so far.

I am new to this group and I am at work right now so don't have that much time to look through the comments. But I did read one that states if you log food in SP it will sync in your Fitbit app. I have always logged in Fitbit and was wondering if there is a way to get what you logged in Fitbit to sync in SP. TIA

Hi everyone, and happy Monday! I'm new here, having just gotten my Charge HR on Saturday. So far (only 2 days, I know) I'm loving it. It was super easy to set up following the process and instructions on their site. Then, on SP, with the click of one button, and answering "yes" to whether SP has my permission to link my SP account with my FB account, my accounts were synced. The information on both sites, as well as the FB and the App, have been syncing accurately and without any problem since Saturday. I found all my food that I logged on SP in the Log section on FB. I didn't know that happened until I was looking around this morning.

As for accuracy of all the measurements, I have no idea whether the FB is correct, except for sleep. By relying on the clock before sleeping and after waking, I think the FB is fairly accurate.

It has been a real eye-opener to see what I actually do each day. I hope it will be a motivator to do even more.

I saw a couple of comments about syncing and Windows 10 in this thread. I am on Win 10, and have had no trouble at all. That said, I can't get the Windows store to work at home, but on the computer I use at my husband's office (Win 10, too), the store works perfectly. Who knows what the difference is between the 2 machines. Maybe it has something to do with privacy or security or cookie settings on the machines that aren't syncing. Wish I could help.

I am having the same problem. When it does it randomly, it matches. When I try to put it all together at the end of my day, it shorts me on both steps and distance.

Thanks for all the info on this thread! I scrolled quite a bit and couldn't find an answer to my question. How can I get my food tracking on my spark phone app to sync to my fitbit? I have to go online to use my spark account for it to work, but would love to be able to use the app too. Thanks!

OK, so I was not going to do this, mostly because I could not figure it out, but I just found the answer in the help section and here are the directions.

Some members like to use a variety of health and fitness tools. To make tracking easier, SparkPeople allows you to connect a few devices/apps to your SparkPeople account. Currently, the devices and apps that are able to be connected to your SparkPeople account are: the Spark Activity Tracker, FitBit, Jawbone UP, Misfit, Garmin, and RunKeeper.

To connect a device or app to your SparkPeople account:
Roll your mouse over "My Trackers" in the top left corner of the screen.
Click on "My Fitness."
You'll now see your Fitness Tracker page.
Scroll to the bottom of your Fitness Tracker page and click on "Connect Devices/Apps," which is located under Tools & Settings.
Click the "Connect" button listed next to the device/app that you would like to connect.
Fill in the login information for your device/app .
Click the button to login/sign in.
Your device/app will now be connected to your SparkPeople account and will start syncing automatically.

Note: If you have the FitBit Aria scale, you will need to connect your FitBit account following the instructions above. Once your Fitbit account is connected, your Fitbit Aria scale will automatically sync your data from FitBit.

It was so easy, and I hope it works well.

I am sure this is answered somewhere here but I am having trouble getting my steps to sync from my fitbit to my SP. Some times it does it randomly but then other days it does not. I have disconnected and reconnected both. I have checked my fitbit dashboard and it says it will communicate with SP but it is not always doing so. Please help!

The only thing that worked was the fitness/steps one - I don't bother with the nutrition because if you scroll down on these walls you'll see I think that it doesn't work. I also noticed the Fitbit doesn't track calories burned correctly for workouts either. A workout on SP that would say I burned 350 calories only shows something like 170 on the Fitbit.

I mainly am using the Fitbit for steps and sleep tracking. The rest I do here on SP.

I'm curious to know what you mean by BMR? And the calories the fitbit says v Sparkpeople. I have noticed that Spark will say I have over a thousand more calories to consume, while my fitbit is saying about 300 more. Do I go with what the Fitbit says?

There are so many posts here - it would be helpful to have one discussion topic that is just links to the "how to" for new users.

For instance the info about linking to SP and how to work the activity and calorie burning, etc.

I'm just getting familiar with mine and log in SP for my activity as I find I don't always remember to 'log' my workout with Fitbit (but it will come). I'm just looking for the most efficient way to use it.

I linked my Fitbit Charge HR to Sparkpeople so that my exercise shows in My Fitness Tracker but I cannot get the food I enter in my Nutrition Tracker to show in my Fitbit dashboard. I notice the SP My Fitness tracker has a link to click to update the fitness minutes and calories burned etc, but I don't see anything like that on the Nutrition tracker on SP. So how does the food log get to Fitbit????

My new Fitbit seems to have a more conservative idea of my rock-bottom BMR than SP does. That is helpful. It's about 1409, calories/day. It is more in line with my actual weight loss. Now it's time to get that heart rate up. I was jumping up and down but not in "the cardio zone."

I am ready to throw my watch away since it will not sink. I've tried all the suggestions and they don't work. Contacted fitbit and their suggestions didn't work either.

Wait, I just downloaded my information from my iphone (fitbit app) it (my phone) synced with the information on my fitbit charge HR and then Wi-Fi ed to Spark people when I clicked sync FitBit.

It all downloaded again!
I guess you need to sync your fitbit watch to you phone app first.?? I don't know! That's what seemed to happen. I hope that's right.

Yes, I'm sorry everybody! I thought I found the cure! But, now it isn't working for me either.??

I've restarted it several times and it doesn't matter.
I don't get it!

Tried this multiple times and it did not work. Fitbit did not update the information. Had to go to a neighbors house to update.

Oh! I found out how to restart my Fitbit watch and it works perfectly now. Records all information like it's supposed to.
For those who may not know, plug your Fitbit watch into your USB port, as if you're charging it up. Then hold the button down about 10-12 seconds until the flitbit symbol appears, then let go. You've restarted your watch.

I'm having the same problem. It was recording before, (not all information)but at least some. Now it doesn't record anything.
What's up with that? I have a Charge HR
