Thank you very much Coach Tanya. I had been in contact with FitBit's technical staff and they advised the syncing issue was not on their end. They advised I should contact SP's technical staff. I am glad that others already thought to do this. Thank you again!

No food linking for me either. So frustrating! I have yesterday's breakfast but nothing else. I revoked access and added it back but still nothing. It's very frustrating for me because I had been using another food logging site but it isn't on the app list for Fitbit so I had to start all over here. :(

SP has an excellent database for gym activities. You will need to search for it and then just add it.

If you post a rollerskating activity you will double up on your calories. Try "logging" this activity on your SP Fitness Page in the Notes section.

Ugh - my food also quit transferring yesterday morning. I will try to put an email in to both sparkpeople and fitbit. We should all do that so they know the feature is used - in case they decided to "drop" it. If any of us get a response, we should share it here.

This is a major bummer!!

My food stop adding to fitbit last night. None of the food in my spark tracker today has added to fitbit this morning. I've cleared cache and cookies. Guessing it's a SP or FB site issue rather than me now that I know someone else is having the same problem.

Hi! I'm glad that the Fitbit communicates with Spark People. I just wondered if anyone knows how to add gym time to the Spark People nutrition/fitness pages. I had only 715 steps, but I spent 45 minutes in the gym using weights and elastics. I need to know how to convert this to calories burned. I really like having the Fitbit and rely on it. It has motivated me to increase the number of steps I do, and it has me comparing myself with my sister. She does twice as many steps as I do, and if I did just what I felt like doing, she'd have three times as many! She motivates me to try to do half of hers. She does about 10,000, so I'm happy if I do 5,000! The only time I did over 10,000 was when the family went hiking at Merchant's Mill Pond, in NC. That's a lot of walking!

Rock, thanks again.

But I have autosync turned on. I just synced to FB, and I see nothing from FB on my SP fitness page yet. UPDATE: Came back to this computer at 1:31 and it had updated. Maybe the interface process runs on the half hour?

@ JOKNITS:
Actually there is no need to sync (if you have selected the AUTO SYNC option on the SP/FB Sync page www.sparkpeople.com/fitbit/connect.a
sp
)
The only time I force a sync is if I need to see some data immediately; otherwise, I let them sync on their own. Also, bear in mind that both sites use different formulas for calculating calories burned so it will be very rare when the two sites will match data exactly.
With regards to weight. Weight entry data will sync either way. Enter on SP which will then sync with FB or vice versa. Water data does not sync at all.

I am still finding a few things odd about the sync interface. Today my calories matched. But I think because I synced multiple times, it wiped out the activity calories that I logged directly this morning, and overwrote them with my accumulated calorie burn when I synced again later in the day. I guess it is best to just sync the two things up once a day at the end of the day?

Water consumption and weight do not sync from SP to FB, right?

@ LSWANEE:
The FB is not very accurate for monitoring a session on a bike (be it stationary or actually out and about town). Tying the device to your leg will result in a higher than usual fitness level recording and, as you have noticed, an extremely low mileage recording. When I use a bike I will leave the FB on my person but then I do add a biking activity to get a more accurate calorie burned figure. Unfortunately there is no way to adjust the steps count.

Rockman, I assume that goes the same for a stationary bike ? I ride the bike with my fitbit zip on my shoe lace and it records the steps yet says I rode only 3 miles when in reality I rode 12 miles .Should I take off my fitbit and just log my bike time on my tracker ? Any input would help.

SP only sends food data and weight data to FB. Adding a treadmill activity to your SP will result in a bogus calorie burned amount. If you want to "log" your treadmill activity on your SP use the NOTE section at the bottom (or create a zero (0) minute/calorie group activity on SP.
Which FB do you own? If you own the ULTRA, ONE, FLEX, or FORCE create a RECORDING for your treadmill activity. To do so, hold down the button on your device (or tap the FLEX) until the clock begins running (or two lights lights up on FLEX) at the start of the activity and then the same action at the end of the activity. This will create a RECORDING which you can view on your ACTIVITY tab on your FB page. You are able to name the activity and insert notes in the COMMENT section.

What is the best accurate way to track 1 hour on the treadmill? Fitbit steps or on SP input 60 minutes and the calorie count on the treadmill. I do not want to duplicate; and I notice Fitbit is sending my steps to SP; but SP is not sending the treadmill input to Fitbit.

Mine always recorded automatically since the partnered with FitBit.
I machine washed it about 1 month ago and now have a new one. Can you help me out to get it to record on my Spark account? Maybe its still looking to sync with the old one but it won't record the new one and its a real pain to input those steps everyday. : )

Not certain what you mean that when you say that your VAM are "being added automatically?" Your FB will sync only VAM (VERY ACTIVE MINUTES) and FAM (FAIRLY ACTIVE MINUTES) to your SP Fitness page (and then only list the data as a FITBIT ENTRY). Are you saying that your friend's VAMs are being listed as a separate entry?

Hi! I have a slightly different synching problem for fitbit. My friend suggested I get one before I got my SP account and I was really excited to see that I could sync them. But on her account her very active minutes count as fitness but mine don't. They're being added automatically. Any idea what's going on with mine?

Thanks again for the comments. I am sure, just like SP, there is a learning period involved w/ FB. The drag and drop is easy to do. My next challenge is feeling that the FB itself will not pop off my arm. I have used a piece of Velcro as a backup on the band to make sure that it stays on my arm. It is difficult to snap it on to begin with and does not feel secure. I am told that over time the band will get exercised enough and fit better.

You are able to "drag and drop" on the FB site. FB does not distinguish between what snacks you are logging in and, as you state, places them in the ANYTIME section. But if you click on the item and drag it to the appropriate section and release the click it will move to that section.

I want to thank the both of you for your suggestions. I played around with both of your ideas and it seems to be working better. It is almost like someone fixed the problem that I was having without me not doing too much. Sometimes you just have to wait a bit longer for the information to transfer. I played around with the food connections and found that if I made a daily grouping of my SP meals (i.e B,L,S), copied it in the snack SP section (again, the same information that I already tracked and it did not transfer to Fitbit). It did now, then I erased the "groupings " that I had made as well as the snack information so my data entered on SP was correct. Although the information is put in the Fitbit Anytime section and not broken down by the meals, It worked.

Obviously this may be confusing to most but I have found that if you play around with both sites that you cam make it work just so you are linked together between FB & SP.

go to your fitness page and see if your points are syncing over to that page. there is also a button on that page that says sync my fitbit.. click on it once to bring any synced data over. hopeflly that will also take your sleep and food over to the fitbit page also

if not contact the techs on both groups. the techs on here can figure why your food is nothing going over and the techs on the fb end can figre why your sleep is not

also to make a link clickable, copy it from the location, then click on add a link here, paste it in that block and save.

What devices are you using to sync. I have discovered that if I use my phone or iPad and add a item from the GROUPING list it does not sync to FB. Also, I have had similar issues with SP syncing my # of hours sleeping (on their START page). This last issue happens no matter what device I use to sync. These syncing errors happen occasionally but I just deal with them as I can remember the "old days" when you had to double enter to get this information on both sites!

I am a bit frustrated with linking my new Fitbit Force to Sparkpeople. It says that I am linked but often my sparkpeople foods that I have entered do not transfer to my Fitbit Dashboard. This is especially true if I try to add favorites to my daily SP tracker. I have also seen this problem with amt of sleep and steps not transferring from my Fitbit to SP. Any suggestions on starting over? or a link to follow to try to link them together so it always works? On Sparkpeople ( www.sparkpeople.com/fibit/connect.asp ) it says that I am connected although like said above it works poorly (if it works at all).

Thanks

I find the heart rate monitor is more accurate, so I always go by that number. I don't like how the fitbit tracks everything burned (not just active minutes), so I stick to what was working before I had the fitbit. :)

I love that it syncs, too, but I also have noticed that my heartrate monitor shows me burning more calories than the fitbit does for my aerobics. But it's very close, and I don't bother going in and fiddling around, trying to figure out how to change it. I accidentally found that it will sync, too, so it's great that the directions for doing it will now always be on this thread.

Just keep in mind, they don't link together very well. If you put your food into sparks and change it, it will not change in Fitbit. You have to manually change everything in Fitbit.

Fitbit doesn't read calories burned in my classes (I wear a heart monitor to get exact readings). Sparks only picks up what the Fitbit picks up. If I change it in Sparks , it will add too much to Fitbit. If I change it to correct calorie burn in Fitbit, it will not change it in Sparks.

Very frustrating and there are numerous pages about complaints and these linking problems. Just wanted you to be aware of it. You have to basically decide which page you want to be correct. I just decided (since I like the dashboard and goals) to update Fitbit and just accept that my exercise minutes will never be correct in Sparks.

(Sparks shows me burning 29 calories today, I took 2 1/2 classes at gym and heartrate monitor shows 910 calories which I know is much more accurate).

If you don't love yourself....how can you expect others to.

thanks for doing that. Believe though the posters intention was that she was able to do it on the other teams she was a member of so that others could also see it there.

I have made this a sticky topic and have added the link to go directly to the page to link your FitBit account with your SparkPeople account. I have also made an announcement on the Team Stream section.

Try sending the team leader a SP mail and asking if they would make it a sticky tab for you

you could also put the link in your signature so others see it that way.

Thank you for the post and for stopping by my blog. I am not sure of how to do this, but how do we make a sticky so this information can stay in this forum, in case others might need it. The sticky is just information that stays there, not necessarily an active thread correct?

I'm not sure of the rules on how to make that suggestion. Do you know?

I found today by accident that I could sync my fitbit account with my spark people. I stumbled onto a link and it showed me step by step how to link the two accounts. I wanted to share that information with others and I can't find the original post.

Does anyone have information on how to do? I would like to share that link with others.

Patty
