To answer your original questions:

I use it almost daily. Usually it is in a post workout shake, sometimes it is over some oatmeal in the morning. I like Body Fortress. Not tried many others though.

To take a stab at your latest question:
I'm not sure how to measure it. It's not like you can go back and compare :) I will say that whey protein has a high degree of bioavailability (actually, the highest). In a post workout scenario conditions are biologically favorable for protein synthesis. So the smart people say getting that drink with whey protein in you fast after the workout is key (2:1 carb/pro ratio is a good rule of thumb). During the rest of the day, I prefer 'real' protein.

Other smart people say its a combination of fast protein (whey) and slower protein (casein). Honestly, that might be a little too much for my brain to handle.

Do you notice a difference when using the protein powder vs. getting extra protein in your regular diet? Sorry, for all the questions, I am just a newbie when it comes to gaining muscle and I know several of you all have some expertise in this area.

I have my gaspari Myofusion "Delicious Vanilla" which I enjoy a lot. I have recently aquired some pro complex which I have begun using after my workouts instead. I don't think pro complex is as good tasting, but I think it is better post workout nutrition...

I usually drink one shake in the morning with my oatmeal and my eggs for breakfast. (Gaspari Myofusion)

I will have one post workout. (Pro Complex). I try to mix in some carbs with my post workout shake. I'm getting waxy maize, but until that comes in the mail, I'm just adding milk to the shake, as I drink it at the gym and don't have a blender handy for adding oats or something...

And to be honest, I think the rule of thumb is 1 g per lb of lean body weight. I take it to mean that if I weigh 165 and I have 15% body fat that I should strive for 140.25 g of protein per day... (Although I have heard wildly differing numbers. I've heard 2 g per lb of body weight or other suggestions at the other end of the spectrum where I'd be fine with less than 100 g. Dunno what to believe, so I just go with eating as much as I can through my food and 1 to 2 shakes a day.

I use 100% Whey & Oats - the oats adds some extra carbs - no artificial colors, flavors or sweeteners. I take one 200 calorie, 24grams protein after my workouts.

If you are interested in customizing your own blend check out trueprotein.com. They have some pretty good products.

Personally, I'm not using any right now but will start up again after the first of the year. One serving in a shake with some creatine post-workout does the trick for me. I shoot for around 300g of protein per day (total, from all sources) when I am in hard training.

I use it almost every day, personally. I try to maintain in the range of 100-150g of protein daily so that's the main reason I use it. I also make sure I use it before and after each strength workout. No missing there. I use (I think I have the right name) Bodyfortress brand sold (among other places) Walmart. Cheap compared to many others and is also one of the few brands available without Sucralose or other artificial sweeteners in it.

No questions really answered.
Yes I use
For a meal replacement for breakfast and after a strength training workout (within the 30 minute window)
Currently using Nectar brand (found at Vitamin Shoppe) as it has less calories but still has the good taste. Have used Muscle Milk in the past but unless you really want to pack on calories...

I have always read that you should strive for at least 1 gram of protein for each gram of body weight - so at 135 lbs, I should consume at least 135 grams of protein each day. I have also read that they best time for your body to take in protein is the 30 minute window immediately following your workout. My goal is to build muscle so I am drinking at least one protein shake a day immediately following my workout. Depending on my overall caloric intake for the day, I may have a protein shake before bed as well. Hope this helps!
