DID U KNOW? Winterize a birdbath: " Last winter was surprised to see birds still coming to visit the birdbath--but many days, layer of ice on top of the water kept them from getting a drink. when I mention it to my sister, she shared a clever trick: Before the weather gets too cold, toss a few clean tennis balls into the water basin. Then when ice begins to form in the bath, the wind will blow the balls across the surface of the water, breaking the ice into pieces and keeping the water from freezing over.

Sunday tip: Perfect quinoa every time? Quinoa, that grain-like nutritional powerhouse, cooks up quickly, making it perfect for easy weeknight meals. However,it can easily overcook and become mushy. The fix: after cooking it until just tender, spread the quinoa out on a rimmed baking sheet and let sit for 5 minutes to allow excess water to evaporate. Bonus: This trick works for couscous, bulgur and other grains too.

The onion's sulfuric acid will stop the avocado from oxidizing, and since the onion doesn't touch the fruit,it does zing impact it's buttery flavor.

Strain; add sugar and water to taste.

I love to cook. And I regularly bake bread. But as much as I like sweet baked desserts, I find them just too fussy for me so I only make them on special occasions. Below is how I make everyday baking super easy (for me)!

Step 1: Have a child
Step 2: Teach the child to bake
Step 3: Ask the child to bake a dessert

Simple!

Sunday tips: Raw rhubarb is a beautiful shade of pink, but cobbles and cakes containing it sometimes end up more brown than blush. Top tester even its color, use nonreactive glass, stainless steel or enameled pans and dishes when cooking or baking with the fruit. Rhubarb's acidity reacts with metal pans like aluminum, copper and cast iron, causing the fruit to turn a muddy color.

DID U KNOW? Clever trick to keep a flashlight steady? To prevent your flashlight from rolling away while you hang new shelves in your linen closet, try this: use a serrated knife to carefully cut a pool noodle into a 5" to 6" long section. Slip the flashlight inside the noodle, cutting a wedge out of one side if necessary to fit the light inside. Turn the flashlight on, then wedge the whole thing into a crevice or corner while you work. Sunday tips: Make-and - take deviled eggs? The easy way to ensure the deviled eggs you made for the church potluck won't get smushed on the way? Place each egg half in a paper cupcake liner before arranging on your plate or container. The paper will nestle around the eggs so they won't knock each other and create a mess. Plus, they'll make serving the appetizers a breeze.

Sunday tips: Keep cookie logs round? Freezing logs of slice-and-bake cookies dough makes it a cinch to whip up treats for unexpected guests.Trouble is,one side of the roll always goes flat in the freezer, resulting in oddly shaped cookies. The save: Wrap each dough log in plastic wrap, then slide a cardboard paper- towel tube over the log. This will keep the dough perfectly round.

Next time, try applying a reuse able ice pack directly on each breast for 1 hour before roasting. Lowering the temperature of the breasts ensures they cook at the same rate as the dark meat,so both comes out equally juicy and delicious!

DID U KNOW? Press here to outsmart overeating : it's been hours since your last meal, and you're worried that hunger pangs might cause you to overeat at dinner. To prevent overindulging, try massaging the area on the sides of your nose just between your eyebrows for one minute. Sunday tips: Genius way to freeze soup? Enjoying home made soup whenever a craving strikes is a cinch with this trick: After making a batch, spoon soup into the wells of a clean muffin tin; freeze. Once set, place the tin in 1" of hot water for 60 seconds. This loosens the soup cubes so you can use a knife to pop them out of the wells. Then store them in a zip-top freezer bag. Each well holds 3/4 to 1 cup, so you can heat single portions as needed.

DID U KNOW? Keep dry foods from going stake! Instead of buying pricey storage containers to keep pantry staples like rice and beans fresh, use a recycled plastic water bottle. Simply wash and dry a bottle thoroughly, then use a funnel to fill it with food and screw on the cap. The clear bottle allows you to see what's inside at a glance, and the cap forms an airtight seal that keeps the ingredients fresh!

Sunday tips: Easy upgrade for canned frosting? Store- bought frosting is convenient when you don't have time to make it from scratch...if only it didn't taste so cloyingly sweet! To mellow the flavor, simply whip one 16oz.can of frosting with one 8-oz. pkg. of whipped cream cheese. The dairy staple adds a tang that balances out the sugar in the frosting,so no one will guess it's not made from scratch.

Sunday tips: No more mushy noodles! You baked ziti is always a hit,but the noodles often co e out gummy. To dodge mushy results, try covering dry pasta with hot water, then let it soak for 30 minutes while you prepare the sauce. Drain well and assemble the casserole as your recipe directs. Unlike parboiling, which can overcook noodles, this method hydrates the starches just enough to soften to a perfectly chewy texture in the oven.

Use up every bit of honey: To make sure the last few honey drips don't go to waste, try this: Pour hot water into the jar, close the lid tightly and gently shake. The residual sweetener from the side of the jar will dissolve into the water, making a syrup that can be stored in the fridge for weeks and is wonderful in cocktails or tea.

Sunday tips: Tastier slow cooker meals: As much as we love the ease of toss-together slow cooker dinners, sometimes dishes like Mac-and cheese come out watery and bland instead of rich and creamy. The problem: condensation build up under the kid. The save? Just place a kitchen towel lightly over the top of the cooker before topping it with the lid to soak up excess liquid and ensure meals turn out perfect every time.

DID U KNOW? Eliminate stubborn rust marks! Oops! Your husband put a bottle of shaving cream on the bathroom sink, and it left behind a rust ring that you can't seem to get rid of. To remove the mark, reach for aspirin. Simply wet the stain and sprinkle one crushed aspirin tablet over it. Wait 10 minutes, then scrub the marks using a wet sponge. Acid in aspirin will break down the rust, and the abrasive powder will help scrub it away.

Sunday tips: crispy chicken guaranteed... Juicy roast chicken hits the spot on a cold night, yet every time you make it,the white and dark meats cook unevenly. The fix: Try using a large Bundt pan with the center of the pan inserted into the cavity of the chicken. This way, all the surfaces of the bird evenly and turn golden brown. Add diced potatoes or winter veggies to the bottom of the pan for a built-in dish infused with flavor.

DID U KNOW? Get copper pots gleaming! Your copper pot get a lot of use, and it's starting to look a bit worse fro wear. To restore its shine, use a dry, soft washcloth to apply a bit of Worcestershire sauce to the pot's surface. Let sit for 15 minutes, then rinse off with another cloth dipped in warm, soapy water. The sauce's ethanoic acid will cut through grease and grime, making your cookware look like new again!

Sunday tips: Keep cut fruit from browning? Cheese and fruit are the perfect holiday appetizer, but sliced pears and apples turn brown fast. The fix: Soak fruit slices in a saltwater bath ( 1/8 tsp.of salt per 1 cup of water) for 5 minutes, then rinse in cold water. The salt significantly slows down oxidation,so you can prep up to one week in advance.

Sunday tips: Easy secret to neat cookie edges! We wanted our stars to come out in picture-perfect shapes, but the sticky dough tended to catch on the cutter, resulting in shaggy edges. The save: Dip the cookie cutter in cornstarch before each use. This keeps the dough from sticking, ensuring crisp edges and making the task go faster.

DID U KNOW?
