FitBit One is just an updated version of the Ultra (they are discontinuing the Ultra).

When I have it set to sensitive, it shows I don't sleep much at all. When I have it on normal, it shows I am asleep when I am not. Posting a blog about it.

Hope you both had a great weekend!

Hugs, Char

Char I don't know much about the Fitbit One, but my Ultra seems pretty accurate for sleep for me. I am a really light sleeper so it was a real eye opener to me how much I toss, turn and wake up!
I hope setting your device on sensitive will work better for you.
I did ST yesterday for 10 minutes along with cardio. I did 20 on the treadmill and then did one of my programs on the Wii Active including Sparring and Boxing. I'm a bit sore, but good sore!
I am weighing, measuring and tracking and staying within cal zone. Let's hope this works!

According to my fitbit1, even though I was in bed for 7.75 hours, I slept less than 4! Not sure how accurate it is. I know I don't sleep very well but I don't remember waking up 10 times last night. I did change the sleep tracking for normal to sensitive. I'm going to change it back in a few days and see how different the tracking shows up.

So So cool Char! I am so glad! You will love the Fitbit! I have the Ultra which they don't make anymore as they came out with the One. It is really neat how it counts stairs and sleep as well. And the website is free!

Going to get to bed...not getting enough sleep!

Thanks Char! And yes, you are right that I need to incorporate a lot more ST. I do it sporadically and that just won't cut it at my age and stage of life.
I am overwhelmed with everything here (I know you understand that stress!) especially with the added task of doing therapy myself with the kids everyday.
We will get this right...our eating and exercise and both be in our 150's in no time!! Okay, so dreams are free!!

Hugs to both, Cathy

Had a fall again today. Bad eating! Did get in 30 min on the elliptical and some core ST this evening though. I don't think I would be under 180 if I were to get on the scale tomorrow. I think my brain just needs a break, which it won't really get until January and we have our Monday's off. Between now and then I will only have Christmas Day off. Tomorrow's a new day! Back on track!

Cathy: I really think you should try and focus on getting in some ST. Build those muscles and you will burn more calories!

Helen: yes, miss you here!

Oh Char, what I would give to STAY under 180! I have worked so hard at it and still have the hardest time losing weight! I keep going and keep trying, but sometimes just get so down about it! I say no to almost anything that I know I shouldn't have! I am making wise food choices, but am not getting the exercise I should...lots of activity, but not getting into that target heart rate for long enough. But even when I did, I didn't lose!
I got barely under 180 in the past week or so, but I keep fluctuating for 2 or so pounds! So frustrating!
At least you are on the right path. I can't wait until you have a day off! You so deserve it!

Helen, miss you and hugs to you!

Still more or less on track but not as good as I want to be. I think once we start being closed on Mondays and I have that day off each week again things will be much better. At least I am not over 180 any more like I was on Monday. Now to get back down to under 170!

Hi Char,
Way to go on getting back on track! It is a process, one day at a time. Perfection isn't the answer, progress is and you are doing it! Way to go on the exercise as well.

Did much better today. Eating was a lot closer to where I want it to be but still not exactly there. I even got in 20 min on the elliptical which makes 3 days of workouts in a row.

Cathy: I know that but I am sliding around quite a bit right now and not really sure why I can't get my mind on track right now. My main stress is over (passing my masters). Maybe it is just a bunch of little things all bunched together. I have been waiting tables every day since Dec. 6 so that could have something to do with it but I've done this before for even longer. Also, I am waiting to see if they contact me about my application for the teaching position but, due to the time of year, I figure nothing will come of it until after the holidays. The position isn't suppose to start until the fall session next year so I'm sure they aren't in a major rush to get something done during the holiday season since they didn't fill it by Nov. 30 like they hoped.

Just as long as I keep trying to head forward, eventually it will pass.

As for the recipe, I'll give you what I use if it works out ok. Basically, the recipes I saw were my normal recipe with a little cocoa and red food coloring and topped with a cream cheese frosting.

Char, though we slip and slide on this path, we don't get off and that is what matters! We do gain our "balance" back and get back on track.
Funny that you would see the add for cheesecake though!

I would love to see a recipe for red velvet cheesecake! My son loves red velvet cake!

Really having trouble staying focused this past week. An now there is an ad for cheesecake.com on the side on this page! LOL! Especially funny since I am planning on making a red velvet cheesecake at the restaurant later in the week. I WILL get over this. I haven't come this far to fall back!

Hello my friends!

Char, sounds like you have a lot of opportunities and decisions to be made in the next year or so. I know whatever you choose to do, you will do it very well. You are an amazing woman!!

Helen, I hope you are doing well. Miss you my friend!

I am doing okay. The holidays and family crap has me really down, but somehow I am trying to get through it without putting a damper on it for the kids. I am eating well and saying no to food regularly which feels good. I scaled back on exercise getting 30 minute sessions of dish dance, stationary bike or other cardio. Still need to work in the ST more.

Have a great night/day!

We are back down to just family working at the restaurant. We've decided to close one day a week. Tom wants a day off. So, starting January, we will be closed on Mondays.

Since I am done with school, I looked on the local university's website to see what teaching openings they have. They actually have one that starts next fall in my field!!!! Now I just need to get 3 professional references. I have two but need to get one more. Also, there are some people I know that are trying to get a private school started for kids with troubled backgrounds or something like that. I don't know all the details yet. She is going to talk to me when things are more decided and when I have more time. It is kind of hard to have a meaningful discussion when you are waiting tables. Anyway, she has asked me to help there. She mentioned head of education department or assistant director?!?!?!?! Not sure I'm ready for that. When I old her I don't know if my background is right for that, she suggested maybe teaching their computer classes. Anyway, I now may have some decisions to make in the future. If I do either of them it means either finding a good waitress or two since there is no way I could wait tables 6 days plus do another full-time job or selling/renting the restaurant. While my DH is open to both possibilities, I think he is getting near being ready to do something besides the restaurant. He may ask his brother-in-law if he wants to buy or rent it from us if I get either or both other jobs.

Hello my sweet friends!

Things are busy as usual here.

Helen, sorry you haven't been feeling well. Hope you are feeling better very soon. Good for you being so organized and having your cards written and your shopping done or mostly done.

I am almost done. Just a few things left for my parents and my hubby's parents who are all so hard to buy for! And the money is so tight right now for many. We will find a way!

I am doing fine with eating, just need to up my exercise. The holidays and family can be so stressful and that isn't helping. Digging deep to find my strength these days.

Char, hope you are well.

HI ladies,

I can't believe that Christmas is almost upon us. Have you started/finished your Christmas shopping as yet? I went out and bought a few things but the city was so busy and I realised it was going to take a long time so I finished ordering some things from Amazon. I had to be super organised this year due to teaching so I wrote all my cards last month.

I am off any diet I started. I've been ill for a couple of weeks and teaching has been hard. Just full of cough and cold.

I haven't run in this time either, so can't wait to feel better. Having such dark evenings doesn't help. It's dark when I go to work and dark when I leave!

I wanted to do some yoga in the evenings but I'm too tired to move. :-(

Anyway, my work is still going great and I'm enjoying every minute of it. Lots of changes for next week for outings, visits, and singing songs.

Take care my lovelies. Hope you are both well.

Hugs x

It always seems to take me a few days to get back on track. Today still wasn't the best eating. Stomach is kind of queasy right now and not sure why. I have some Sleepytime tea brewing. Hoping the chamomile and mint in it will help. This make my third day not exercising but I don't thin my stomach can handle it right now.

On a positive note, had a great time this evening surprising my mom for her birthday. My brother flew in from CA and she didn't know about it. Also, my son and his girlfriend showed up (they picked my brother up at the airport since it is kind of on the way) and she thought they weren't coming also! Great 70th birthday present for her!

Did not have a good day. Kind of stressed right now and will be thru the end of next week. Kind of had the "I don't care" feeling today and ate terribly (way too much and not the right foods!) because of it. Stomach is yelling at me right now!

Tomorrow is a new day and I will over come this. Part of my stress has been relieved since I got something working today so that is crossed off my list and it is one less thing to worry about! Need to print out my list of why I want to be healthy and fit (maybe even make it longer and add stomach happier when I eat right!) so I can see it and remind myself anything that I am worrying about is temporary!

Char, I'm so glad the day went well and the food was yummy! You are an amazing cook! )

We have our Thanksgiving with the fam tomorrow (just us 7) with a couple of friends that might drop in to say hi. That's good enough for me.

I've tried to keep the meals for the day as healthy as I can and I will choose wisely and watch my portions.

Hope you both have a great night!

Thanksgiving dinner is done! Day early since my oldest has to work tomorrow so he could only come home for today. That cranberry-pear sauce was yummy! I even send the ingredients home with my son and his girlfriend to make for her family for dinner. I did only use 1/3 cup sugar instead of the 2/3 the recipe called for.

I highly recommend these almond energy bars. I used dried cranberries and raisins (1/2 cup each) as I did not have any apricots or currents. I also added a little unsweetened dried coconut, pumpkin seeds, used Enjoy Crunchy Flax cereal instead of puffed cereal, and used 1/8 cup agave instead of 1/4 cup turbinado or brown sugar.. Easy to add variety to by changing the nuts, seeds, and dried fruit you use.

I also made Cranberry-Pear Sauce for our Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow (celebrating Wed, not Thur. as that is when my oldest can be here). Using Anjou pears instead of Bartlett and and about 1/2 the sugar. The pears and dried cherries should sweeten it quite a bit and I like my cranberry stuff on the tart side.

Hello Ladies,

Sorry it has been so long since I have posted on here. Sounds like you are both doing really well. Congratulations x

I haven't been logging my food or weighing myself but I was thrilled yesterday to discover I had stayed the same weight at 147 lbs. ideally I would like to lose another 10 lbs but I am now at the highest section of a weight I should be. So all good.

Yesterday I ran a half marathon in 1 hour 49 minutes. I was really pleased with that. Its a 5 minute personal best! The weekend before I ran an 18 mile race with a couple of friends in 3 hours.

I've increased my exercise this week (cycling and swimming a mile) and I feel quite tired. I'm lacking a recovery food I think. I really ought to look into it.

Work is going great. I'm really enjoying it. I can't believe the time is just disappearing. Are you getting sorted for Christmas? I know I'm going to find it stressful if I wait too long so I've already written my Christmas cards and they are sitting on the side until December comes. x

Hugs Helen xxx

You do have your hands full, Cathy! And it is so sweet of you to abstain from things Kelsa can't have so she is not alone.

Off to do my circuit training.

Hello Ladies!

Things are busy, but school is going very well with the kids. I am working with the kids daily in my own "therapy program" as the kids no longer have their therapies...thanks insurance! The Astronaut Training is going well, but so far no change for Kelsa. I think it will take time...it hasn't been that long and we are only in the "Preparation Phase." I have found the movements very good for Josiah and Jenna as well.

Josiah turned 11! Wow, I can't believe it! He had a wonderful birthday with a new favorite treat...Red Velvet Cake. We took a couple of pizzas and some Red Velvet cupcakes to his church group and those 5th grade boys had a feast!!
Kelsa can't have Red Velvet cake, so when there is a goodie in the house she can't have, I abstain as well. I don't make a big deal of it, I just say that I am not going to have it since Kelsa can't. I always get a hug and a look of relief washes over her face. I think it is very good for her to not feel alone in her restrictions, and she handles it so well. And it is better for me!!

I hope the two of you are doing very well.

Hugs to all, Cathy

At the moment, I have my ST down because I am doing circuit training 2 or 3 times per week. If only 2, I do one day of regular ST. With the circuit training, I get both my ST and cardio in at the same time and it saves a little time.

Maybe try planning things so, on your ST days, every time you do a certain thing, you do a set of ST. Like, every time you go to the bathroom do 10 wall pushups, when you do dishes do squats or leg lifts instead of your dish dance, when you go into your bedroom do 10 bicep curls, etc. That way it is quick and you won't get bored plus you don't have to block out a bigger stretch of time to do it as it is spread throughout the day.

Gotta go do errands.

Char I am so happy for you! Way to go on your weight loss!

For me I know part of it is the perimenopause. I am so irregular now and having other symptoms. Nothing I can't handle, but I know that and my stress level are huge culprits. I am doing well to eat what I should, make healthy choices even when I am stressed and tempted. And if I indulge, it is once and I stay on track. I have been getting some form of exercise every day.

I also think that if I did more ST it would help as well. That is something I am working on, but am overwhelmed. I am in a really good groove with keeping up with housework better and school is going very well. So now I need to fit in my ST on a more regular basis. Why is it that I find it so hard to just "do it" when it comes to ST? sigh

Helen, I hope you are well!

I lost 3 lbs this week! It is amazing what tracking and reporting your food intake to someone can do. If anyone wants to "check up on me," I record my food in the note section of my food journal here on SP.

Cathy: I wish I had some suggestions for you. I'm at a loss as to why you haven't lost anything at all in so long. The important thing is you are still doing your best to eat right and exercise.

Happy Birthday Char! I think I missed it! Sorry!! You are doing amazing!

Helen, you are amazing as well.

Been very busy with this past week being my middle son's birthday. He turned 11. I am continuing to watch what I eat and get some form of exercise in daily. No change on the scale, but if I do this long enough, maybe the scale will cooperate!

Sorry I've been absent...just busy.

Hugs to both, Cathy

Well, I almost met my birthday weight goal. When I got on the scale this morning it read 171.0. Even though I was 1 lb short, I still am happy about it. I am the lowest weight I've been in about 20 years!

I wanted to be below 170 by Friday. Doesn't look like I'll quite make it but I will be darn close. I was 171.8 this morning but I don't think I will lose 2 lbs in 2 days.

Hope everyone is doing well!

I think it is time for the two boys to divide up what is left of the Halloween candy and get it out of my sight. I'm not going crazy but even what little I am having is too much. I need to just stick to my 90% dark chocolate.

Arms as so weak right now. Just finished my circuit training and my arms really got a workout with today's routine!

Hi ladies,

Hope you are okay Cathy!

Char, I had some sweets the other day and felt so rough afterwards, I've decided it's just not worth it. So I've given them up some again! I have successfully lost 1 stone in weight - 14 lbs and feel so much better. My running has certainly improved. I would ideally like to lose another 7 lbs but I know I need to be stricter with the types of foods I'm eating. So this week, it's more fruit and veg. I'm also eating healthier meals. xx

Feeling a little down today so I ended up giving in to a few more leftover Halloween candies than I should have. Made myself get up, put on some chamomile tea, and go down and do 30 min on the elliptical. Feel much better now. And drinking some of the tea to relax before heading off to bed.

Ran again today but should not have. Foot not happy. I guess I'll be stretching it quite a bit tonight and tomorrow. Did 2.5 miles (31 min) today plus walking .75 miles there and back.

Hello Ladies,

I hope you haven't been affected by the storm. It looked terrible. I feel for everyone. So much damage done. No power and so cold. Bless. Thoughts are with everyone who has been affected.

Cathy, I hope you and your family are okay!!!!!!

Char, well done on your 2 miles running. That's amazing. Keep up the good work.

I'm having a lovely holiday and really enjoying my time off. I've been running more and loving it.
