What about Rugged Ridge roof rack? Looks pretty durable and sturdy. Might be getting a kit from this site; 4wheelonline.com/ soon what are your thoughts about it?

We started chatting on another thread about rack systems and it seems like a topic worthy of its own thread.

Here are my thoughts about racks.

---------------------------------------
I don't like J cradles. I had them for years on my car for my sea kayak.

I just recently switched to Yakima Mako Saddles (the regular ones, not the aero ones). I put a little nonskid rug on my roof so I can slide the kayak up there on that. No need to pay for or bother with the rollers, which according to reviews don't stay put anyway.

When my sea kayak is upside down and backwards on top of my car I can even clear the garage door and park inside. I have two other friends who do the same thing (it's where I got the idea).

Here's the rack system I've got, and I LOVE it:

Scroll down to the part that says "To watch our Yakima 42 Inch Track with Plusnuts Product Video, click here" and watch the video.

They basically bend the rails to fit your roof, and then you can move the towers wherever you want in the rails, to accommodate various different loads. I take the crossbars and towers completely off when I'm not carrying something and leave just the little landing pads with covers on them.

For my whitewater boats I used the sideways stackers for a while but I don't think they're any better than just tying the boats 69-style on top of each other right on the crossbars.

So if I had to go back and do it again I would have skipped the J cradles and the stackers, and I would have gotten the rackattack track-type system on my original car.

Just my 2 cents.
