I finished Cover Her Face by P.D. James. This is the first in the Adam Dalglicsh mystery series and published in 1962. It was also on PBS Mystery. Its not gritty in the way a lot of mysteries are now, more puzzling than frightening. I give it 3.5 out of 5.

Just finished The Perfect Liar. Wasn't one of my favorites. The husband and wife main characters were not very likable although a main character doesn't always have to be all that likable for me to like a book.

The Other Woman by Sandie Jones *****

Loved this Book. Very rarely do I find myself yelling at a book while I'm reading it, but this had some twists and turns that left me frustrated (but in a good way) and picking my jaw up off the floor!!

Did You Ever Have a Family
By Bill Clegg
5 stars
Similar in themes to the other book I was reading at the same time: love, loss, death, secrets, and family. This one employs a unique method of progression of the plot, as each chapter focuses on one of the characters affected by the events described, and only at the end of the book are we able to have a complete understanding of the whole. Really well written and engaging. Surprisingly wonderful!

A wonderful character-driven narrative classed as a YA, or as I like to call them YAHOA (for the Young at Heart Older Adult). Yes, teen issues abound, but themes of loss, guilt, love, family, death, secrets, and gender will speak to anyone of any age.

Now on to The Perfect Liar.

I felt like it started slow but then at about 30%, thing picked up and I stayed up way too late to finish it.

Now I'm reading An Anonymous Girl by Greer Hendricks; Sarah Pekkanen

Manhattan Beach by Jennifer Egan. Historical novel set in Brooklyn just before, during and after WWII. It was good but not as good as I expected based on some of her other books. Rated it 3.5 out of 5.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor 5 stars (the first in a trilogy) (Young Adult Fantasy)

#2 Days of Blood and Starlight
#3 Dreams of Gods & Monsters

Around the world, black handprints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky.

In a dark and dusty shop, a devil's supply of human teeth grown dangerously low.

And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherwordly war.

Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real; she's prone to disappearing on mysterious "errands"; she speaks many languages--not all of them human; and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she's about to find out.

When one of the strangers--beautiful, haunted Akiva--fixes his fire-colored eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself?

6 stars

A group of moms with school age kids, their husbands who all live on a peninsula. Some women are friends and some are frenemies. A little scary (domestic violence), a little funny (Ms. Moriarty is a brilliant writer). Think Desperate Housewives meets Knots Landing.

I had heard of the book due to the HBO tv show. I've never seen the show, but decided to read the book. I loved it! I'm going to look for the authors other books.

Here we are! This is where you can list the books that you finished in September

All posts need book title, author, and stars; 0 being the worst and 6 being very special.

I would encourage you to comment on books that others have read by sending them a Sparkmail. This topic is just to list books read and finished in September 2018 for the team.

This is a thread where we list all the books that we read during the month of September and rate them by the system listed below. Please note that you need to list title, author, and your rating for it to be counted. Also, please give a description of the book and how it appealed to you. This is a great way to find new books and authors that you might be interested in. Everyone is welcome to join.

If you started a book in August (or any prior month), but finish in September, it counts for September.

DO NOT list books STARTED; only books FINISHED. Include title, author and rating.

Rereads count, audios count, electronics count. Our minimum word count is 25,000.

Book Ratings:

0 stars - Fit for only lining birdcages.
1 star - Agent was better salesman than author was writer.
2 stars - Some parts had promise.
3 stars - Solid read in its genre. Take it on plane.
4 stars - Better than average. Don't lose it on the plane.
5 stars - Recommended. One of the top 10% of books in its genre.
6 stars - Strongly recommended. Beg, Borrow, Buy, or Steal It.
