Worst? Well they are all pretty good compared to what was on television at the time. Seasons 6 and 7 were pretty poor compared to the rest of the series, although there were a number of highlights in there.

I read someone mentioning Doublemeat Palace. Yeah, that was pretty bad for Buffy, although I do get how that fits in with the real world theme of season 6.

OMWF was one of the all-time best episodes! Joss Whedon has such a gift for writing; I just love his seemingly throwaway lines that still make me chuckle even today. Example - Giles' comment about checking out the crime scene as the police took "witness arias". Hilarious!

Everyone oohed and ahhed over "Him", but it seemed to me that it was trying too hard to be funny, and fell short of the mark.

The only funny part to me was Xander's deadpan comment to: "Get off the boy, Buffy."

Season 7 Ep 6. "Him" The one where every girl went crazy for the HS jock in the letter jacket. ...sigh. It was bad enough listening to dawn whine on about teenage love but to see Buffy get all hot and then Anya, I mean, it was funnier and way less awkward when Xander was the target in the earlier season.

DoubleMeat Palace is a close second.

ftr, I L-O-V-E-D OMWF. I thought the music was fantastic, and i loved seeing them all in such a different style. Plus it scratched my Broadway itch.

It's been said before (maybe below, or in another forum), that even a "bad" or cheesy Buffy episode is better than most everything else on television, even today!

I'll still rather watch a less-than-stellar Buffy eppy than most other things.

I have to admit, I did like them. They were seriously cheesy, but a lot of the later episodes were. I mean, once you bring Buffy back from the dead, nothing is sacred anymore. Right? Besides, I think Joss Whedon could step on my foot and I'd kiss him for it. The man is a genius!

CJ?? Fancy meeting you here! emoticon I, too, was not a fan of the Riley romance.

Back when the episodes were new, I HATED how they wrote Dawn in. But when I watched them all again, I didn't mind at all and actually came to love Dawn's character. So I guess I don't have a least favorite episode...

On of my favourite episodes was one with Riley in it - the one where he leaves, lol! Seriously, I didn't mind Riley, but I too found him less interesting than Spike or Angel. I loved Riley's last episode (until his 7th season return) because of that great scene with him and Spike, when he staked Spike with the plastic stake, and Spike was musing about who had the better deal - having Buffy but not having her, or not having her.

Yeah...I found that scene shocking and upsetting, and very hard to watch even now. I think it was supposed to do that, though, that was the purpose.

I've found this review of that episode, which I think is pretty good:

i couldn't have said it better! it WAS insulting to the audience to see buffy playing the poor little victim saying "please please, no!". the toughest girl on earth, the slayer, can't fight off one little vamp? worst writing choice ever. and totally off-putting. changed the whole dynamic and made a real spike/buffy romance impossible. booo... hissss...

hands down, without a doubt the two WORST episodes are the one where she loses her slayer powers and the one where spike tries to rape her. and for those who said Dawn was the worst, she served a very important purpose. not only was she the "key" so the whole magnificent season 5 hinged on her, but she was FAMILY to buffy, a little sister to protect with her life, she had to have someone to replace Joyce so she still had a family link. Buffy was a wonderful big sister. one thing she says that touched me: giles: "buffy, if the ritual starts, we'll all die" buffy "then the last thing she will see is me protecting her" she loved dawn more than all the others "if the ritual starts, we all die, and i'll kill anyone who comes near dawn" shows she was willing to sacrifice herself and the world to save her sister. that is LOVE. yes, dawn had a very very important purpose.

I've heard many people say that about Dawn. I loved season 5, though, for the beginning of Spuffy and Spike's realization that he was in love with the Slayer. I kind of ignored the Dawn parts. I *do* like Dawn/Spike scenes, though.

Season 7 was okay for me, but season 6 and Depressed!Buffy got on my nerves a bit.
(although the Spuffy helped to wash that down, lol)

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Buffy...BUT after the introduction of Dawn the show seemed to lose something (although I thought the episode where the gang sticks up for Tara against her family was very touching). And then the season 7 eps where Buffy gives one of her speeches...they were just lacking something.

It's definitely not my favourite, but I don't detest it or anything. And I do love the Willow line when they determine that the praying mantis goes after male virgins. Giles makes a comment about "Well, surely Xander ..." And Willow replies, "Is gonna die!"

So, I am currently re-watching the entire series. I am halfway through Season 3 right now. But I know for an absolute fact that my least favorite episode EVER is Teacher's Pet. So corny, poor Xander and just a terrible story overall. That is the ONLY Buffy episode I will skip over.

SPLASHDOG1 - I agree about reading through others' opinions and disagreeing!

I love some of the ones listed here:
Beneath You - to me, the more Spike in an episode, the better the episode. As this one was Spike-centric, I loved it. And the scene in the Bronze where Nancy realizes everyone there, practically, has been involved with everyone else, and she asks,"Is there anyone here that hasn’t slept together?", and Spike and Xander exchange a look. Hilarious!

I also didn't mind Where the Wild Things Are.

I agree about the rape episode (Seeing Red), that it was uncalled for. But, I think I have read about it, and the writers were trying to go for some monumentally stupid move on Spike's part, to get him in the desert, trying to get his soul. I think Buffy wasn't fighting back at first, as she was thinking (hoping?) she wouldn't have to - that Spike would stop himself. When it became apparent that he wouldn't, she let him have it. Perhaps it was to make it more 'realistic', from a non-slayer woman's point of view? I don't know. I don't like it either.

My least favourites have all been mentioned, I think - Beer Bad, Go Fish, Doublemeat Palace, etc.

when spike tries to rape buffy, totally out of character for the show, a horrible writing choice. and made NO SENSE, buffy on the floor yelling "please please, no" like a helpless girl? she fought spike hundreds of times!!! what, she suddenly can't defend herself? absolutely horrible writing. bad taste, off putting, too dark, and it didn't even make sense. it was almost insulting to think the audience would buy it

That episode where Buffy gets a job at some fast food joint and then she and Spike had sex in the alley next/behind the joint.

Alleyway sex, like a common hooker. Come on Whedon! She's a slayer, not a 2 bit tramp!

I love how you read through everyone's opinions and sometimes you agree and sometimes you think, What?!! I loved that episode!
I'm not really good with episode names but I definitely think Teachers Pet, Doublemeat, Superstar, the one where riley leaves, and my all time least favorite - the one where xander calls off the wedding.

I didn't mind the Wild things episode that everyone seems to dislike (I loved Riley), I really liked the Dracula episode and the Beer Bad is worth it just for cave buffy alone. Makes me laugh just thinking about it!

I think my absolute least favorite BtVS episode is Where the Wild Things Are.. That's the one where Buffy and Riley are just holed up in the room at the frat house, having sex the ENTIRE time, which summons spirits of traumatized kids or some crap.

Anyway, I was big into Buffy/Angel and I was NOT okay with Buffy/Riley, so that episode (which was already a sub-par standalone) became the worst ever to me.

I don't like Meat Palace at all and I fast forward thru the entire storyline with that blond chick who was a god or somthing like that and she'd switch back and forth between being the god and being the nice doctor guy. Can't remember her name but she was trying to kill Dawn because Dawn was "the key".

The one for me that is really hard to watch--not because is it bad--is the one where she is in a psych ward. It scares me, I guess because part of me believes we are all just 'brains in a vat' and reality is what we make it. (you know, from psych 101)

I am truly in love with the Buffy-verse. And some episodes were pretty bad if you asked me. But the ones I really truly despised are "DoubleMeat Palace" "Beneath You" and "Teacher's Pet." Those were pretty stupid. Hated them, hated them.

But I have a favorite for every season, hehe..

Season 1 - Prophecy Girl
Season 2 - I Only Have Eyes For You
Season 3 - Choices
Season 4 - Hush
Season 5 - Buffy vs. Dracula
Season 6 - Tabula Rasa
Season 7 - Dirty Girls (Don't know why but I just love seeing all the potentials kicking butt)

I just didn't like that Willow suddenly had to be lesbian. Why couldn't they just say she realized she was bi? What's wrong with that? Why does she suddenly have to hate men (when she's always been obviously sexually attracted to them) to dig women? That's a big grrrrr point to me. I loved Tara as a character, however, despite not always digging her with Willow.

I have been rewatching Buffy with my son who has never seen the series. We watched GingerbreadMen and I never realized before how bad it really was.

Although episodes like this make me really appreciate the quality and standard of writing that almost all of the whedonverse episodes have and how the bad ones really do stand out.

New Moon Rising- The final departure of Oz and the breakup of the VERY BEST BUFFY COUPLE EVER! Hated the whole lezbo storyline. Why did it have to be Willow? The only character I liked less than Tara was that butch girl in season 7!

The entire stupid supervillans storyline! I guess the writers just ran out of good ideas. Just complete rot!

Ok now so I can leave on a positive note-my favs:
THE WISH (very disturbing to see all the heroes fall)
HUSH
DOPPLEGANGER (Willow at her best!)
OMWF
THE BECOMING PT.2
GRAVE (Willow again! and the return of Giles!)
END OF DAYS (the final Buffy/Angel moment)
I also really liked having Faith back in the fold toward the end of the series

I like all the episodes. Good or least favorite they all add to the Buffy universe. Can't have the good without the bad.

Until a friend was talking about it, I forgot how frustrating I found "Dead Man's Party," so I have to add that one to the list. There's some great one liners, but overall... it just makes me uncomfortable having everyone so at odds.

HATED Double Meat Palace. It's the only Buffy episode I can't stand. Soooooo monotonous and boring. What was Joss thinking?

Most of Season 1.

I loved "Beer Bad" Cave Buffy was just funny. I always wanted her to run into Spike as cave buffy though. That could have been interesting.

I do not dislike these episodes but they are my least favorite from each season.
Season 1- The Puppet Show
Season 2- Bad Eggs
Season 3- Amends
Season 4- Beer Bad
Season 5- Buffy vs Dracula
Season 6- Wrecked
Season 7- Same Time Same Place (I always skip this episode because the demon is so gross) If it was not for that I would say Beneath You is not the best episode.

I do find something to love in (almost) every episode. That does not mean that some are better and some are worse. Some are clear front-runners, while other did not advance the story arc, nor were strong stand-alone episodes. The drama was forced, the team cohesion was weak, and the dialogue was lacking. They may have had good moments, but did not have the Buffy "magic." While there are not many of them, I was just trying to get an idea of which ones fell short of expectations in the eyes of the viewers.

Please feel free to love all the episodes. I also consider myself a Buffy geek, but part of that is (over)analyzing every episode in depth, discussing, weighing, and comparing.

You may love them all, but must have most and least favorites. I guess my question should have been "which do you love the least?"

Bad Eggs is also on my list. Hated that one. Makes me glad my disc has a scratch on it and messes the episode up.

"Where the Wild Things Are" - I second that. It was weak and... honestly, aside from the ridiculous sex, I remember nothing about it. That's not a good sign.

The name escapes me but it was in Season 2 or 3 where Xander was on the Swim Team with the lizards. I didn't care for that one at all.

I think the only good thing I can say about that episode is seeing Riley with his shirt off. And well, if I was Buffy, I don't think I would have minded having sex all the time with him. Sorry, couldn't resist! Marc Blucas was pretty cute. emoticon

It was called "Where the Wild Things Are" and I was planning to name it as my least favorite too. As horrible as I found the storyline with Willow's meteoric descent into addiction (and the heavy-handed way it was presented), the episode with Buffy and Riley in the frat-house is the only episode IN ALL SEVEN SEASONS I find utterly unwatchable.

The title is slipping my mind at the moment but I really didn't like the episode in season 4 while Buffy and Riley became overcome by the spirits in the fraternity house and did nothing but have sex.

And I know lots of people in the fandom like it, but I was never found of Superstar. I like Jonathan, just not as the lead character.

I have to leave out the whole seventh season, because I disliked it so much that I can't even compare it to the others.

Hell's Bells gets my vote. Reasons:
1)By season six, the show was losing its luster and I was beginning to lose interest.
2)The Xanya plot ruined two great characters. I loved high school Xander, and that smart evil Anya from Doppelgangland. Xanya was a twoheaded monster of boring, whiny clinginess. There was no one I cared less about in season six. Except Amy, of course.
3) That fistfight in the chapel was an embarrassment -- it looked like every stupid moment from every fourthrate TV show ever made. That's the moment I was embarrassed to be a fan.

I think there is general agreement about the best Buffy episodes ever... "Hush" "The Body" and "OMWF" are usually the top ones named. But what is the worst episode/your least favorite (usually the same thing) and why?
