First, I vote no on buffets whenever I can avoid them. My partner goes biweekly to one with someone else.
Second, I look for the healthier options, just as I would from a menu in print.
Third, if I am to splurge with anything, it is only once I am full from the better foods, so overall my calorie jolt is not bad.

Lousy choice, a buffet, for most any location. Imagine the food quantities that have to just sit in waiting for others to ... no, besides the grossness I THINK about the gorging tendency over feeling fabulous about nourishing my body.

Maybe one a year I have to compromise and hit a buffet ...

I really try to stay out of buffetts. I tend to eat way to much and they seem to be loaded with a ton of sodium. I'm already fat. I don't need to be bloated too. lol

Sometimes they have different size plates, like small for dessert. Grab one of those for main entrees and just "sample" so you have very small portions. Or use the large plate and mostly fill it with salad and leave very little room for the other items. Then use a coffee cup saucer for dessert. Sample or share so you don't eat the whole thing. Hope this helps!

if you are going to a buffet (they were the first style of eating out mom finally understood I didn't want to do anymore ... then finally convinced her to stop bringing wendys/BK/mcD/etc that have long grossed me out)

but i don't deny myself all the time ... i do choose to sample anything and everything I want .. i purposefully put LESS of each on my plate. I know that I want to try everything bc it's available. but that doesn't mean i need a heaping spoonful or 5 of each item.

go ahead and use their serving utensil to cut something in half or quarters ... only grab 1 small piece of sushi of each kind ... only grab 1 tiny tasting bite of pasta / rice / fish / fried whatever

i do usually skip fillers like mashed potatoes, mac cheese, pasta, rice, rolls

and i drink water instead of soda or juice

i'll usually try a small bite of some dessert if i'm in the mood .. otherwise have a mint to get the sweet / palette refresh

How are you measuring your year? Speeding tickets, cups of coffee, love

I go to buffet outings maybe once a year. When I do I eat a dab of my favorites and skip the dessert trays.

I do not go to buffet only restaurants; best way to control how much you eat.

I usually start with a full plate of salad. It is filling and you'll be less tempted by everything else. It also helps keep your portions in check when you go up for your "main course."

I go to a place that offers just the plate or buffet so I can take my leftovers home. Then I wont over eat.

I would fill up on less calorie dense items, start with a full glass of water, followed by a plate of veggies, then another glass of water. That doesn't leave a lot of room for anything.

I may not be there yet but I'm closer than I was yesterday.

I got tired of starting over and working back to where I was, so I have stopped giving up!

My husband enjoys going to buffets, and I have a hard time controlling myself there, I am trying to measure by hand and it never really works. Any tips?

Just keep swimming.
