For handicapped people with just a cane, Wagner Falls or Munising falls are kind of short. Over to Miners Castle in the park at Pictured Rocks is good too.

I live in Bay City and the Tobico Marsh has more than one entrance, viewing tower, a weir, has a nature center, the state park, etc. I have a quad cane and we are there a lot.

Not sure where you are but if you get a weekend away or are in the U.P. I highly recommend the Porcupine Mountains State Park. Hiking for every level. Usually we do day hikes but this summer we rented a cabin on Lake Superior and backpacked in for 2 days. The year previous I rented a yurt off the campground that was also on Lake Superior and we did day hikes from there. My profile pic is from our day hike to scout our cabin trail this summer.

I have a book, "50 Hikes in Michigan" by Jim DuFresne and a goal to do every one of them. So far I have done two but really enjoyed those two...

Deerfield Park in mount Pleasant is a great nature walk. Tobico marsh in Bay City. White pine Recreation area in Sanford. MidMichigan community College has a great campus with a couple miles of hiking and 10 miles of biking trails.

There's a site/app called All Trails. HUGE help in finding unique places to wander in nature, also can filter by difficulty and type (out and back or loops)

Some of the trails are paved, others are not, most are wooded and there are many ponds, and lakes. Also, the North Country Trail runs through Michigan (both lower and upper) If you check out their site, many of the Michigan chapters offer organized or guided hikes. Most in lower Michigan are geared towards beginners. They even offer overnight guided hikes in the UP.

Thank you for the suggestion. I was not familiar with this park but would like to check it out this summer. Are some of the trails in the woods?

Walked the 5K RunScreamRun at Wiards' Orchard in Ypsilanti on Saturday. What a spectacularly beautiful Michigan fall morning!

Proof that one can be still on the way to goal weight and NOT WAIT to reclaim his or her life! It was AMAZING, even at the back of the pack with the strollers, ha!

Oscoda county is where the bar burned down just yesterday. It was called MA Deeters. There is nothing of it left. I'm bummed. My friend works there and we eat there on occasion. My little community is just shocked that it's gone.

Ah, TweetyKC00! I see on the internet " Iargo Springs provides a panoramic view of the Au Sable ... A trail to the springs was constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1934."

My fly fishing husband calls the Au Sable the "Holy Waters." :D Is it near Oscoda? And didn't a historic Inn/Pub near there burn down this week, to the consternation of many? A good friend of mine who is a keen motorcyclist just completed his dream Michigan tour on his bike and put up on FB that the place was destroyed and he hopes it is rebuilt.

"Nature walk"!!

That is what I should have said, instead of "hikes." I'm not to the "hiking" level yet, but want to begin to enjoy our lovely Michigan colors, sights of fall, as well as this nearly 30 lb weight loss-- which at last makes it possible for me to walk a couple of miles (instead of finding it challenging to walk from the car through a parking lot and through the grocery store). I want to celebrate reclaiming my life in our beautiful state.

I just remembered that when our children were young, I enjoyed the trail outside Matthei Botanical Gardens (Ann Arbor). That would be beautiful and easy, too.

Please keep suggestions coming, SparkFriends! We may have a nice collection of Nature Walks here!

I'm keeping these suggestions to follow in the weeks ahead. "Not really hiking" describes my current fitness level, lol. I aspire to start easy and work up to less easy!

After walking at lunchtime just about every workday since late August, I am ready to take it the next step and enjoy fall on the weekends with a fun Michigan hike!

Have any of you enjoyed an easy walk in the great outdoors of our beautiful state? Please share the place! My husband and I are ready to hit the trails together!
