I'm enjoying this discussion! I just got back from a month wandering around in "Dixieland". I went under clouds at the Texas line, and was in rain or clouds until I got back into New Mexico. The little sun they get is weak and pale--it has to shine through all that air and humidity! Even Florida "the sunshine state" had more clouds than sunshine, although it got near 80 each day. I have been in 48 states, and I say New Mexico has the best weather of all!! Esther!

All of the leaves blew off my mulberry tree the night before last. My little pups love getting into the front yard and skittering around on the fallen leaves! Cool, crisp, not too windy the last couple of days here in Albuquerque.

Okay, you win emoticon You've had honest to gosh cold and I'm just being a whiner. That's okay, I can live with it. I'm really never going to be completely happy with the weather where I live until the day I retire with my hubby and live in Bogota, Colombia where the weather is absoulutely perfect (in my mind) all year long. Constant springtime....I could live with that. emoticon

We have the remains of an inch of snow. We were supposed to get 6-8. A big disappointment. This just means more mud. Have had the wood stove going steadily since Thursday.

It's been cold up here in ABQ. I've actually had to turn our heater on the last couple of days. Yes, I know that it's a lot colder in a bunch of other places (I'm really glad that I don't live in Santa Fe or other parts north) and I'm aware that I'm kind of spoiled. But I don't like the cold any more than I like the relentless heat here in the summer.

It's cold and it's snowing in ABQ right now. Not much, and it's probably not going to stick around for very long, but it's definitely not warm right now.

Wow! I just looked out the window and there's actually a small buildup of snow on the grass and bushes. I can't imagine that we're going to end up getting much snow, though. Guess we'll see...

Oh, and when I got out of my car at work at about 5:00 this morning my car was telling me that it was 28 degrees....and that sensor is under the hood of my car somewhere near my engine, so it must have been several degrees colder than that. I guess winter decided to join us for the weekend. emoticon

I start work at 5:00 in the morning so all I saw of today's ABQ rain was a little bit of spitting the sky was doing at that time. I dared the sky to send us more rain by deciding not to get my umbrella out of the back seat of my car on my way into work. I'm happy to know that my tactic seems to have worked. emoticon One of the women I work with lives in the east mountain area and she got snow this morning, but nothing terribly impressive. I had to turn the heater on last night for a little while so that we wouldn't freeze in bed. I LOVE this weather!

Yesterday in ABQ we switched over from summer to winter...all in one day. I suspect that summer will come back for a last hurrah before it's really gone...but at least I wasn't missing my cooler last night.

(I haven't heard anyting about floods but after all the rain we've gotten in the last day or two, just about anything is possible.)

It's almost 11 pm and it's still 68 outside. we were in T or C today and it ended up to be gorgeous for my first visit there in years. Saw the memorial park and then the wind picked up but at least I didn't blow away! Found my first letterbox and my GF brought me cookies. A good day all in all. Anyone in Las Cruces? I didn't hear it last night, but it rained here in ABQ - when I let the pups out I had rain water dripping off the roof. I have refrigerated air, so it's not from a swamp cooler (altho I had flashbacks!). Lovely cool, crisp morning.

In ABQ it's getting to where it's cool enough in the morning that I have to wear a jacket and I use my car's heater while I'm driving to work....and then in the afternoon it's warm enough that I end up using my car's air conditioner. The mornings are getting cooler and cooler, and pretty soon I'm going to have to start wearing my leather jacket instead of the little cloth jacket I've been wearing. But I hate the hot summers enough that I really love this weather. (Would like to get a little bit of your rain, though...)

It was honest-to-goodness raining when I left for work at 5:30 this morning, and it was sort of sprinkling when I left work at 3:30 this afternoon. My husband doesn't like rain, says it's "boring," but we'll cut him some slack because where he was living (Bogotá, Colombia) it pours down rain every afternoon/evening. I might get sick of that, too. But as I've explained to him many times, when you live in the desert rain is always a thing to be celbrated. So I'll happily take whatever rain we get. emoticon

Albuquerque is cooler and dry today - the weather dudes are calling it the "spot-soon" season instead of monsoon cause the rain is skipping all around the state.

Strange weather in ABQ yesterday afternoon, though I loved the rain. When I left my main work site at about 1:30 it was hot and sunny. When I left my alternate work site around 2:30 it was cloudy, windy as heck, and almost cold! Then as I drove home there was a pretty decent rain shower and the overnight temperature was really good for sleeping. If only that had lasted into today....Oh well. I'll take the rain and lower temperatures whenever we get them. emoticon

I lived there until I was nearly 40....I am happy to be out ;)
Thought I would share this ..See your dad is the norm there It is sooo very calm here LOL I think NJ drivers are highly skilled and that NASCAR sends people there to learn how to drive in crazy situations at high speeds .You need to be able to drive a minimum of 85 MPH in bumper to bumper traffic with out using your blinker and while sending a text message LOL REALLY you can drive that fast in any weather condition even at night.....

Hope you feel better soon . soft tissue injuries are the pits. Hang in there and Big HUGS

How To Drive In Jersey. .

1. You must first learn to pronounce the city name, it is Nork - rhymes with Fork, not New-ark.

2. The morning rush hour is from 5 AM to NOON. The evening rush hour is from NOON to 7 PM.
Friday's rush hour starts on Thursday morning.

3. The minimum acceptable speed on the turnpike is 85 mph. On the parkway it's 105 or 110.
Anything less is considered "Sissy." (Just ask Jon Corzine, the Governor of NJ)

4. Forget the traffic rules you learned elsewhere. Jersey has its own version of traffic rules.
For example, cars/trucks with the loudest muffler go first at a four-way stop; the trucks
with the biggest tires go second; However, in Monmouth county, SUV-driving, cellphone-talking
moms ALWAYS have the right of way.

5. If you actually stop at a yellow light, you will be rear ended, cussed out, and possibly shot.

6. Never honk at anyone. EVER! Seriously. It's another offense that can get you shot.

7. Road construction is permanent and continuous in all of Jersey. Detour barrels are moved
around for your entertainment pleasure during the middle of the night to make the next day's
driving a bit more exciting.

8. Watch carefully for road hazards such as drunks, skunks, dogs, cats, barrels, cones, celebs,
rubber-neckers, shredded tires, cell-phoners, deer and other road kill, and the Homeless feeding
on any of these items.

9. MapQuest does NOT work here -- none of the roads are where they say they are or go where
they say they do and all the Turnpike EZ Pass lanes are moved each night once again to make
your ride more exciting.

10. If someone actually has their Turn Signal ON, wave them to the shoulder immediately to let
them know it has been "accidentally activated."

11. If you are in the left lane and only driving 70 in a 55-65mph zone, you are considered a road
hazard and will be "flipped off" accordingly. If you return the flip, you'll be shot.

12. Do not try to estimate travel time -- just leave Monday afternoon for Tuesday appointments,
by noon Thursday for Friday appointments, and right after church on Sunday for anything on
Monday morning.

Small world, Silverwitch! I originally hail from New Jersey, grew up in Elizabeth, then moved to the shore in Toms River. I don't remember the Jersey drivers being that bad, but then I was a kid and my dad drove...now, THERE was one crazy driver! I was always afraid he'd get into a wreck, since he'd turn his head all the way around to talk to me in the back seat...talk about scary! Now here, in ABQ, I find that most folks either go way too fast (50 in a 40 zone) or way too slow (25 in a 40 zone), and I don't know how many times I've had people pull out from a right turn right into the left lane where I'm going the speed limit (okay, a mile or two faster!) and they're going 20 mph...why do they do that?
Well, I'm hoping that I can get back on track with getting some more walking in, but I still need to get this torn ligament fixed. It'll take time, but in the meantime I'm picking up my bands a little more, so at least THAT part of my body is getting some exercise!

I am enjoying the 80'& 90's LOL And I do not mind the drivers here as long as there is no wetness on the roads add some snow and look out I grew up in Jersey so find it very tame LOL People there are totally insane when it cones to driving Like NASCAR every day on the way to work ;0

Love the rain, and just love to watch the clouds that form out here. I am so looking forward to fall, not just for a reprieve from the heat, but the fact that the sky has perfect clarity, and true blue that exists nowhere else. California sure as heck doesn't have sky like this, at least not where I'VE lived! The sky, and the green chile, is why I came back to this state in the first place. This is truly the Land of Enchantment...now, if only Albuquerque drivers would just SLOW DOWN!

I love the rain, the smell of it, the great things it does for the garden...but TODAY'S rain was way too awesome for words. It was like the clouds burst open and dumped inches and inches of the wet stuff; I thought my yard was going to float away! I guess this is what folks refer to as Albuquerque's monsoon season, eh? I had to hoe the mud off my fence and dig out the squash plants!

We had an absolute downpour for several hours today from the Colorado border to Taos and perhaps even further south. Much needed, but we were getting triple lightning bolts crashing all around, so waited a bit in Taos to drive home.

We've been having all kinds of thunder in northeast ABQ for days....but no doggone rain. My husband is from Colombia and in Bogotá it rains pretty much every afternoon and/or evening. So he tells me that he hates rain because it's boring...but to me it's such an unusual occurrence that I absolutely love it.....on the rare occasions when it actually happens. emoticon
