That is tough. Maybe it was different becasue you lost a dog in August. Hang in there. We have to remember its not their choice to be gone, they dont have a choice.

Mine was gone, again, for the holiday season. This will make the 8th trip to the summer vacation home, and it's getting old. We don't have kids, so it was just the dog and I this year (usually 2 dogs but we lost one in August) and it was different in a way I can't put my finger on.

My husband will be gone again during this holiday season and it never gets easier. My kids, a 9-yr old boy and a 13-yr old girl, are doing alright but there are times where each one of us just has one of those bad-sad days and breaks down, needs support and love, and then we move forward. We are pretty sure that this will be our very last Christmas apart before my husband retires from the military and so we are excited about that....but not too excited because as you all know...all plans are written in pencil until they actually happen!

I hope all of you have special holidays with family and friends, even if you can't have your partner/spouse/fiance, etc. with you during this time of year. Our hearts are always with those we love and even with miles apart, as military families we have such a great appreciation and understanding of what is truly important at this time of year...not the presents, the decorations, or the parties....but rather those people that we love and hold dear in our hearts, the ones we want safe and home with us.
