OLIVIA: I ALWAYS eat breakfast! If I am not home for lunch, I make sure I take snacks (fruit and nuts) so I am not tempted to stop for fast food. So some days I do not eat 3 full meals.

As far as aversions to smells, I simmer potpourri when cooking fish. I don’t like the lingering smell.

I’m on board for extending my SUGAR Challenge. I am already looking forward to sweet potato pie or peach cobbler on Thanksgiving and some dessert on Christmas.

SHARON: If only I had your discipline to get up and walk every morning I remember the days when I did, but now.... “the mind is willing but the flesh is weak!”.



ME: Thinking of an “October Challenge” ….maybe 30 minutes of walking each day. I really need it.

Although excessively Greasy foods that may expel into my mouth after a bite... get me IMMEDIATELY nauseous. No Joke.

Thank you Dee for coming to the rescue with a sample of daily meals! emoticon


So tell me ladies...Do you actually eat three meals a day? I physically can't eat in the morning so my first "meal" (using the term loosely) is lunch. I like breakfast food but only eat it for dinner at a restaurant. The smell of frying food is nauseating!

"Nauseating" brings me to another question...Do either of you have lingering food preferences or aversions since pregnancy or giving birth your children? Smells?


I hope your Thursday is "this" good!!

I read the post about your FANTASTIC news from the doctor: B-12 in the healthy range, lower cholesterol, NORMAL range of blood pressure, 100 g carbs, 50 g sugar, sat fats, spinach, kale, etc., and "POOF," now it's gone!

Congratulations my friend on ALL of your accomplishments as you work your way toward better health! Dee...Thanks for the rules for Pickle Ball. I'm already tired, agreeing it's too much running around!

Sharon...I honestly don't know what I eat? Pity...isn't it! Earlier I ate turkey wrapped in provolone cheese. Tonight I just finished eating a salad of: romaine lettuce, cherry tomatoes, green onions, beans, chicken breast, and ranch salad dressing. Later I'll have watermelon.

I have a problem with buying too much food as though I'm still feeding growing teenagers and their friends. Tonight was a "clean up" of leftovers (man do I hate leftovers!) and produce before it spoils.

Dinners are my only routine meal. always consisting of a meat, starch and vegetable.

emoticon Today I went to the doctor to get blood lab test results... overall pretty good Improvements and my doctor said the improvements in test results are a direct result of leading an active lifestyle and improved eating habits, yeh!

New goals set: watch my sugar, carbs and saturated fat intake. She set some limits for me.

Continue with the healthy active lifestyle and

ADD dark green leaves to my salads like: Spinach because it's a more Dense Nutrient food.

Next lab tests will take place in December :-)

OLIVIA: I have never played so here are technical terms and explanation I copied.

Pickleball is something of a mix between tennis, racquetball and ping pong. Players use special paddles and a wiffle ball, and games take place on tennis courts with specific pickleball lines. Nets and court sizes are smaller than their tennis counterparts, and the most common game is doubles, although singles is also an option. It has its own set of quirky rules — for instance, try to stay out of the “kitchen”— but they’re easy to learn.

I’m running behind and catching up now…

Racket ball was fun and my husband went with me. We didn’t stay long because it was hot. Very HOT and it was the 2nd Sunday of Football season. Yes, we are people with priorities (LOL)

Dee…What is pickle ball? I joined a Meetup group years ago and that’s pretty much all they wanted to do play pickle ball and Bingo. Uh…No.

It's Day 17 and we are so proud of you! You're taking it one day at a time, and you are, have been, and will continue to be SUCCESSFUL! Sugar, carbs and refined foods are like crack, their destruction upon our bodies well documented! Whether you lose one pound, ten, twenty, or none at all, you are gaining health! Dee, it's HUGE! Sharon…Thank you for the Blessings for me and Dee, the Angels, and good thoughts! I also love the MJ song. I’m glad liked Michelle Obama who is (to me) the epitome of GRACE! I miss her as our First Lady! If there were a standard, she would be the one to whom all African-American women should aspire…smart, intelligent, educated, courageous, poised, gracious, a wonderful mother and obviously terrific wife. Do you remember the way President Obama looked at her? When their eyes met, his whole demeanor changed! He is a man, “visibly” in love! Hollywood will never get it right!

Nice job tracking your food! I’ve used the calorie tracker through Spark to figure out what I have eaten during the day, but haven’t used it to plan meals in advance. It's interesting (as you wrote) that "real" food is filling. I noticed too, there were days I didn't hit my allotment of calories.

SHARON: The movie/lunch from hell. I’m sure your group will not hold this against you. I agree with Olivia’s comments…. You can meet your sister in the park, try to keep a relationship with her. I love that Michael Jackson song.

Thanks for your support, but I am not that disciplined. This is the first time in a long time I have stuck to a challenge this long. It isn’t over yet that’s why I am taking it one day at a time.

I go through the same thing when it comes to eating, I get tired of tracking so sometimes I think about what I am going to eat before I start to track it. I track everything I eat. Do you use the Spark People food tracker?

I get so full I have to force myself to eat, I am also drinking 8 glass of water a day.

Hello ladies 09/19/19 Monday

emoticon Today is my 1st attempt at counting calories today.


I want to know How much am I REALLY eating? lol

* 1st meal 09/16/19: Eat an albacore tuna salad and sip on organic hot chicken broth
(cold and hot meal)

2 pkts of Albacore Tuna = 160 cal, 3 fat, 1 sat. fat, 50 chole, 0 carbs, 32 pro
6 tbsp of light miracle whip = 120 cal, 9 fat, 0 sat. fat, 0 cholest, 12 carbs, 0 pro
2 cups of organic ckn Broth = 10 calories
1/2 tsp Wylers ckn powder = 2.5 calories
Veggies = I am NOT counting... it is minimal calories. Too tedious.

emoticon 4:20pm = I added the TOTAL CALORIES for 1st meal:

192.5 calories
12 fat
01 saturated fat
50 cholesterol
12 carbs
32 proteins

yeh, I have like 1,000 calories left to consume and it is 4:20pm emoticon
I was stressing for Nothing LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLL life is good

Fun Fact:
WHOLE natural foods grown from the ground REQUIRES a lot of chewing
and PROCESSED foods like can soup and crackers is processed meaning it just deteriorates to Nothing once in the mouth.

Fun Fact:
Whole natural foods requires a LOT of prep like chopping, cleaning, cutting, digesting,etc. Bottom line.. it takes WORK!
Processed foods require MINIMAL handling, more Fun to eat, easily digested because it practically melts in your mouth, just swallow and u are done! lol.

Your group of friends sound like wonderful mature women!

Despite your embarrassment a few good things happened: you got your sister out of the house and for an evening she wasn't lonely, your friends understand you are NOT a reflection of your sister and didn’t try to hold you accountable for her behavior, and by virtue of you bringing her (walker, oxygen, and possibility of what could happen) they know you to be a person of great compassion and EXTREME PATIENCE!

We ALL have family members who remind us of your sister. Your group of ladies made that point truthfully. The lady who came to your rescue (imho) did so at great peril (by making a comparison,) but wanted to help for your sake. Thankfully your sister played it off...Thankfully! Had she not, things would have gotten (really) UGLY...Right quick and in a hurry!

Best of all, the evening ended with hugs, thank you(s) and everyone looking forward to the next event! It was a SUCCESS!

Yet…Without question…You have been through it!



Seeing your sister at her house or inviting her to yours sounds like a great idea so the two of you remain close. I understand you don’t want to take her out in public because she’s a bit loud, but there are public places where volume isn’t an issue: parks, concerts, parades, art walks, sporting events and even shopping in some stores. You wrote she uses a walker, but if she has or can get a motorized scooter or wheelchair, it opens a world of possibilities. She can even “meet you” on the track :)

They day is still close and you may still be “smoldering," but you handled it with GRACE, having planned a wonderful day for all!

NOTE: it wasn't the people.....it was my sister who acted and conversed INAPPROPRIATELY in the movie theater and at the restaurant .... lawrd.

long story short: She said inappropriate things in the company of the women there.


The previews came on... I warned her THREE times, you can talk all you want but once the movie starts, please be QUIET. did she listen or honor my request? noooooo



She laughed LOUD, talked LOUD... you know like one of those people that you see on TV from the hood YELLING at the screen???? yep that was her.
I moved my seat.
Came back to her after 20 minutes and she CONTINUED to laugh obnoxiously loud and talk loud...

I was paying for both of us at the restaurant and told her the spending limit for her was $15 worth of food. She ordered food. Waitress leaves.She calls back the waitress ALL LOUD.... ugh!



She asks the waitress.... HOW MUCH is a soda and HOW MUCH for this dessert?
The waitress answers her.
I lean over to my sister and whisper in her ear... What are you doing??? you have reached your $15 limit, please RESPECT the limit!
She dosent follow my whisper but instead responds LOUDLY so everyone at the TABLE can hear her... it's just $3.00 for soda and $7.00 for dessert dang!!!!

I knew she was trying to manipulate the crowd so SOMEONE would offer to BUY her a soda and dessert... so I responded and said... Gently but FIRMLY... how about this.. I will pay for the food as planned and YOU pay for your soda and dessert... do you have $10 to pay for your soda and dessert? and she said forget it. Waitress walked away.

THEN it gets worse but I have shorten this story because it was too long.
My sister went to the bathroom, the ladies looked at me and said don't worry, all families have one of those in their family.

Olivia, yes I will continue to reinforce the word Friendship as I do EVERY day that we text. :)

Breakfast meet for 1.5 hours... what did we do?
Answer: We took a few bites of food and texted, repeat same procedure for 1.5 hours and it was "me" who said okay it is time to go. lol He wanted to stay to prolong the meeting but ummmm I was done texting lol.

No worries.... it is extremely RARE that I allow male company IN my home. To me, the home is sacred :-)

Sharon…Oh my goodness, I hate to tell you, but your new “friend” is smitten. Smitten! I don’t think he couldn’t speak as much as he was speech-less! As you wrote to us and Dee has commented, you will definitely have to continue reinforcing the words friend and friendship to set some boundaries.

OLIVIA: Yes people are talking to me I have been doing very well. I do get tempted but I am finally learning to resist.

All praises to GOD that your son and the other injured passengers were spared. GOD IS GOOD. It’s not too late for you and your son to seek counselling or some group support. I say this because my son was involved in something similar and his friend died. I let him talk me out of counseling he had a hard time dealing with his loss..He is doing fine now. Time has helped him deal with the loss but the memories are still there.

During the time I was working on weight loss for my son’s wedding, I walked the track at the local high school. I left most of my problems and anxiety that I was dealing with at that time on that track . Walking (which I don’t see as exercise but it really is ) helped me clear my mind and feel so much better.

SHARON: My calorie allowance is 1200-1400 daily.

You may have to keep stressing the “friendship” with your new friend.. Maybe you should wait an hour or so before you respond so he won’t think you are available anytime he texts you. It won’t be long before he may want to come to your house for a visit. Be careful and cautious. I’m saying this because it seems strange that he contacts you now after having your number for soooooo long. Just makes me wonder.

Hi Ladies,

I'm laying low this weekend.

It's September which for me is a time of upheaval, change, grief, sorrow, joy and miracles...

Yesterday was my parent's anniversary and also marked the day my son's life was spared in a roll over accident so severe it shut down the interstate and was covered on the news. I'll never forget his call, his first words "Mommy don't worry," in a tone of voice that no mother should ever hear from her child. He told me he was fine but had to find the other eight who were thrown from the vehicle, scattered all over the desert. One of them was his roommate with whom he shared the same seat! My son was the only one to walk away without physical injury but it took months for him to recover emotionally...Yet is it possible? Is it possible to recover from running around the desert looking for your friends hoping and praying not to find them dead?

He did not find them so. Thanks Be To G_D they all survived!

They were all air-evacuated except my son who was transported by ambulance.

I have prayed to forget many things and G_D has been gracious with events wiped from memory. I have prayed the same for my son and we no longer speak of it. The Angels were with him and with our family on September 13th, and in faith I must leave it at that.

"Clearly I'm in no shape..." was a reference to the trouble the month brings, the earth once again crumbling beneath my feet...the Angels again lifting me to firm ground.

This time will pass as it always does and we will celebrate my daughter's first anniversary later this month.

Have a WONDERFUL weekend and tell me all about it!!

Hi everyone emoticon

It is Saturday at 6:35am and I am on my way out the door to drive to the park to take a walk with my dogs and jog to get our exercise IN.
It will be a busy day today = as I will be driving 30 min to pick up my disabled sister who travels with oxygen that I invited to go to the movies/restaurant today because she hardly ever goes out, then drive back 30 min, then drive to the movie theater to meet ladies from a meetup group I am hosting to see the movie called HUSTLERS with Jennifer Lopez and Cardi B, then lead that same group as we drive to a Jamaican restaurant that I am hosting as well so that everyone has an opportunity to go out on a Saturday who maybe couldn't make the movie event, then drive my sister back home for 30 minutes, then drive back home for 30 minutes. yes a full and busy day today indeed LOL.

1st thing in the a.m. = Since 8/18/19 I go to the park to exercise Faithfully..

TRUTH: I sit & watch tv or get on the computer = that's sedentary for Me.
(okay once in a while I do chores … but not every day lol)

I use 2 to 5 lb weights... do like 20 or 40 movements with weights during commercials. Nothing too strenuous... just enough to FEEL the burn LOL

Dee = Well done on successfully doing your “no sugar” challenge and tracking your food on top of that, way to go!!! How many calories per day are you allowing yourself with your tracking?

you had me busting out laughing with the... I will hunt you down LOLLLLLL girl you are soooooooo funny lol.

Yes it went well. This one lady came up to our table because she thought he knew sign language and wanted to say hello she said. it was a nice gesture but made us both feel uncomfortable.

when I got home, did some chores and he texted me for several hourssss. it was nice to hang out via text with a buddy. I could tell he is getting attached for real. I just throw in the word friend several times to remind him that we are JUST friends hanging out.

I think he is lonely. No family here.
I get lonely once in a while but I keep busy... real busy. LOL.

so its nice to just chill and text. I can handle that LOL.

Yes it was a nice breakfast with him at 8:30am... I usually go to restaurants alone... so it was nice to have company indeed. No pressure, No trying to impress anyone... just hanging out and chilling... was relaxing.

09/13/19 = Back from the blind date with
a potential friend from this morning at 8:30 am.



* He arrived early prior to me arriving at the restaurant which was nice. I was on time.
* He did have trouble physically communicating verbally...
so I asked him to Text me while sitting at the restaurant.. he did. That is how we communicated successfully.. texting to one another.
* This meeting lasted 1.5 hours and then I was ready to go.
* He hugged me goodbye respectfully.

* Bottom line: He has the potential to be a texting buddy/friend .. too early to tell.

That is him by his red truck getting ready to leave.

hi everyone,

it appears that I got railed into going for a breakfast meeting with a man I met "online" a longggggggggggggg time ago.

He texted me yesterday and texted me today as he kept my phone number. I remembered him that he had a stroke and had problems talking (slurred speech). I know it was HIM because I remembered his distinctive voice and slurred speech as he called and left me a message on my cell yesterday.... so I knew I was talking to the right person.

I have never met him in person in the past, because .....................…

the day we was supposed to me at a restaurant, he invited his FAMILY also... so not only would I meet him for the first time... I would also meet his family emoticon crazy! Naturally I cancelled the date to meet him in person and I explained WHY... because he scared me off shoot! lol. That was crazy....

and I don't do crazy LOL.

His family was in town only for a holiday visit... It was the week of Thanksgiving.

he offered to pay for my meal tomorrow stating he could pay for my meal tomorrow but would not be able to pay each time.

when I read that text..... my first INTERNAL response was.... if you cannot afford to date, then stay HOME!
but it was like noooooo be nice and ... remember: he is disabled, probably had a stroke and I assume that he had a stroke due to the slurred speech and probably living on a limited disability income.

so I graciously declined stating I will pay for myself but thank you for offering.

He also asked me not to view him as disabled.... which tells me he may be self-conscious.

child please.... I am just going to a restaurant to meet a potential platonic Friend,
NOT looking at his disability but then again he does not know that.

what I did make CLEAR to him is that he is a potential friend... I made that VERY clear.


I will be meeting him tomorrow morning for breakfast at 8:30am at a restaurant.

He wanted to meet at 7:30am but I told him no can do as I go to the park to exercise EVERY morning 6 to 7 days a week and NOTHING comes before my activity health, sorry. I offered an 8:30am meeting and he agreed.

he has a 2003 truck and I have a 2018 car.
I am exercise active ... he is not (disabled physically)
we do both like movies though.
we are both strong minded people... so we may clash there as friends, not sure.

what we could possibly have in common I do not know but I will find out. LOL.

why am I going out with him then?

1. Because I do not discriminate when it comes to disabilities … I really do not because a disability can happen to ANYONE, including me one day... ya never know.
2. Because I am hoping to meet someone who has the potential to be a "friend" in person.

Why not look for a relationship? cause..... I don't wanna.

Because relationships dont work out for me so why go there?
and my time and energy is now focused on physical movement of exercise and continually training myself to eat Whole Foods which is an ongoing everyday thing..... that is enough for me to handle right now LOL...

I can't take on the drama of relationships... different expectations, etc... ... I can't do it .... I will put someone in CHECK in a minute.... I can't and won't do relationships at this time in my life. NOPE. My life is full enough with the love of movement (exercise) and daily determinations to eat better foods and that is enough to deal with... I just don't want to deal with ummmm... children (aka: relationships)… I won't do it. Been there, done that, don't want to do it again. LOL.
I don't want to do it and I won't do it. Companionship Friendship is ALL I will do.

Funny but true :)

If you haven't already done so, I want to remind you it's time for your annual physical and well woman exams.

A number of preventive care services are covered at no cost under Obama-Care (the Affordable Care Act) but getting them for free can be a challenge. Everyone has their hand out looking to have their palm greased. To that end, contact your insurance company and read the provisions of your health care policy so you can stay "between the lines."

Also, be careful about getting vaccines without consulting with your doctor first. Sometimes the risk IS greater than the reward so please, please check beforehand.

Sharon: I stand corrected...Definitely Pounds AND Inches! As a person who doesn't exercise, I often forget these can exist (happen) one independent of the other. For me they happen in tandem.

Your weekend sounds like a fun time! It's good you decided to add a Jamaican restaurant. I absolutely agree we need to patronize small businesses, especially those owned by people who "look like us!" That, and the fact of choice between the two events - and "chat time" the restaurant will provide.

I know what you mean about family. I have a brother-in-law who can and will say any thing. He's kinda' like a time bomb...Not a question of "if," it's a matter of "when." emoticon

Your tip was certainly generous and to be received without a "thank you," was definitely impolite. My thought is it may be a cultural thing. My father is a first generation American on his mother's side. His mother, an immigrant from Jamaica. As far as people go, my experience with this side of the family (including my grandmother) was 95% devoid of emotion. It was odd to receive a compliment - instead of speaking, you got a gift. The lady who received your tip was likely screaming for joy on the inside, and just didn't show it.

Hi everyone :-)

Yes I can't wait to see that movie HUSTLERS as well.
I just ADDED an another event to go to AFTER the Hustler movie on the same day to go to a Jamaican restaurant called: Spice Island Grill.



Thats 2 events in ONE day back to back (movie and restaurant)
why?

1). Because ummmm the sista group is a NICE group of wonderful people don't get me wrong ….. but ….. we ALWAYS go to ummmm establishments owned and run by people of the lighter persuasion and I just wanted to SEE some color at an establishment that I attended and spent my money on... at least once in a while dang LOL :-) so I choose the Spice Island Grill restaurant where ALL the staff AND the Owners LOOK like me :)

2). 2nd reason is to give everyone an opportunity to go out on a Saturday … like if they are unable to attend the morning movie... then maybe they can attend the afternoon restaurant event and still have time to run errands, spend time with family etc... afterwards :) I would like to think of these two events as an equal opportunity event thing with choices for everyone.

I invited my sister to go with us...hope she behaves LOL. You know how sometimes we have those family members who are kind of a lil loud in public... thats my sis.. but I invited her because she lives alone and is on oxygen and rarely gets to go out so I invited her. so hopefully she will Behave this time … I already forwarned her to behave or she will never been invited again on MY dime. LOL.

P.S. I already went to the restaurant ALONE by myself last weekend to check it out. The restaurant is located on a SIDE street. If one did not go down a side street... one would NEVER know that restaurant even existed.
On the outside AND inside it LOOKS like it was a small house that the owner turned INTO a restaurant. But that is okay... the service was very good, quick and polite. I ordered several things to get an idea of what things tasted like. I ordered mac and cheese that was too ummmm okay it did not taste good for my taste so I put the fork down after two attempts to eat it. I ordered rice and beans: it was bland tasting.. no salt either therefore I put the fork down after 2 attempts. Then I ordered a SMALL spicy ground beef wrap as they were out of chicken wrap... that was spicy for SURE and very Good. Then I ordered Plantains (cooked sweet banana slices) and that was delicious!!!!
So that is why I scheduled this event here at this restaurant. Not to mention I do not know of any other restaurants that are owned by people who look like me except this restaurant.

emoticon PROS: The restaurant has a LARGE vast selection of foods/drinks on their menu.

emoticon CONS: My check was $32.00. I tipped the waitress $10.00 and ya would have thought I gave her a $3.00 tip as she was un-phased at the ten dollar tip. She didn't even say thank you. wow. I was surprised.
and I knew she knew that I gave her ten dollars because when she rang me up, I asked her to include a ten dollar tip. (Next time I wont be so ummmm generous.. lesson learned).

it is a group of people who tend to lose slowly....no pressure kind of group.

Sharon: Thumbs way up for creating your own MeetUp group! When you want something done, it's best to do it yourself. Right? Always Right! :) According to the previews, "Hustle" looks like a great movie. I too am thinking to see it.

Please let us know how you're doing with the arm exercises! I read some of the reviews, a lot of them saying results could be seen in a week.! I remember thinking when you first posted..."Geez, she's worried about her arms and I'm worried about my whole body!" LOL! I gain weight everywhere, feet to face.

You wrote your weight at the 1st weigh-in with the DDT Team. What is DDT team?


Dee: By all means rest. You can't shed the pounds if you don't. You're travel and entertainment club sounds like a lot of fun, and it certainly IS nice to get out every now and then. You'll find a balance. And if you can go 11 days without carbs and sugar, I imagine you can pretty much do anything :) By now, I wouldn't have a friend left in the world (LOL)!

I didn't have any weight loss goals in Jauary, still holding it down from the wedding.. The weight didn't "hit" until the beginning of June and I came back to Spark in August.

The way I see it, you are accomplishing a goal each and every day you resist sweets and refuse to let carbs and sugar control you. It is a big deal!
In fact, it's HUGE!

9/04: 258.4 = *** 1st weigh-in SP DDT Team

9/11: 254.6 = Lost 3.8 lbs. since 9/4/19 (after my run today wt. is: 254.4 yeh!)


lost 2 more oz. after my run today 9/11/19 lol

emoticon 7:06am = Time to go running at the park, goal = half a mile non-stop!

I was worried if I could do it again... but I did.. wow!

emoticon My Plan: Run a half-mile Non-Stop 3 times per week, M,W,F and continue to walk the other days.

Were there any goals/commitments/resolution you ladies made in January that you have completed or are still working on.

ME: Lose 25 lbs by 12/31/19....well I'm still working on it. I am no longer setting dates for completed goals, they will happen when they happen, At this point I just want to complete a goal.

Thank you ladies for your support! It means more than I can say!

My latest weight gain has been the fastest. I can usually keep it off for 2 to 3 years before my brain gets stupid and tells me "you're cured." HA! I will never be! This time I regained the 15 I lost for my daughter's wedding and added 7 which took back to my all time high from 20 years ago. Perhaps the saddest thing of all is I had resigned myself to being overweight and started buying new clothes in sizes I had given away long ago at the advice of a girlfriend.

Thanks Be To G_D, I remembered Spark People! I was here before, briefly with my daughter in 2007. It wasn't for me (so I thought) and moved on.

It's always amazing to me how life leads you back, things of old becoming new and with faith we find opportunity and people we need.

That's where the two of you come in...I am grateful to have found you!

The "Hustlers" movie premiers on Friday
