I change my hair every 3-4 days. I tried the no comb method, and my hair is one of those that loc'd up. I have a very kinky/coily texture.

What doesn't kill me can only make me stronger.

Thank you, ladies! I hadn't thought of the possible loc-ing, but I separate my hair and wash it in sections, so I'd probably be okay. I'll try the finger detailing and read up on methods a little bit more. Wish me luck!

I would definitely try it if I wasn't loc'd. Our natural hair is full of curls and coils and really not meant to be combed. May take a lot more time to style and maintain, but if you're happy with the results, it's worth it! I tried googling "finger detangling natural hair" and got a lot of hits.

I finger detangle before using a wide tooth comb. I am afraid that finger detangling won't remove all shedded hair and it may loc when I wash my hair.

Natural Queens: do you comb your hair? I'm a natural and I don't feel like my curl pattern is ever not frizzy and in need of a comb out. However my ex roommate (who is also a natural) told me that her stylist told her to stop combing/brushing her hair and to just finger detangle. Her hair went from a frizzy mess 6 months ago to a beautiful head of defined and luscious coils.

Do any of y'all do this? Any tips for a newbie? My friend's stylist is in San Fran, but I'm in LA, so I can't go visit her myself. emoticon

I wear locs, and they come down to my mid-back. As much as I love them, I usually end up wearing a ponytail. It's time for some style inspiration! emoticon

I wear my hair in a short natural. I grow it out a bit during the cooler months.

I've been transitioning for almost a year now, so my go to hair styles are braid-outs and buns. I plan to do my big chop on November 1st, I don't know what I'm going to do then.

I've been natural for a number of years - I grow it, color it, then cut it (drives my stylist crazy). I recently started growing it again so that I could do some cute coils, twists, etc. Just cut it again, deciding that short hair works for me - no more growing it, just keeping it short and well shaped and colored as I march toward full grey.

I am transitioning to natural so I wear protective styles. I don't change according to seasons but according to my mood. When I get tired of doing hair I braid it.

Question: how often do you change your coif? Does it depend on the seasons? Events? When you just get plain tired?
