Thanks V for sharing your thoughts on maintenance. Like I said somewhere on this board, I find myself worrying about failing when I get to maintenance, which is crazy for me to be worrying now because maintenance is so far away. Your thoughts on the subject has helped. "Thanks".
Thank You, also, for the great job you do here at motivating and helping other be successful on this journey, I was excited to find this team, and really excited there was a leader here that really cares. You rock!!

Where do I begin? I'm not going to lie, maintenance is hard, I think harder than losing. Mostly because you have to think more about everything. On a diet like this it's easy to grab your meals for the day and go. But on maintenance your on your own.

But it's possible, and if you learned a lot along the way your bound to jump into maintenance easier. Lean and greens are a must to learn, learning to eat a healthier way is so beneficial to your success. Also, and this is the most important part,,realizing this is a life time change, not a quick fix and your done, you have to realize you have to change your relationship with food forever, or you will be right back to where you started from in no time!

Food is fuel!
Emotional eating has to stop right now....forever!
Your worth it, all this hard effort, your worth it!
Your health is important, your well being is important, and your happiness is important!
Life is tough, so many things can happen, but prepare yourself for the worst, and do not use food to comfort you! Find better ways of coping, and rewarding yourself. Food isn't the answer, never will be.

Keep pushing everyone, we can do it! emoticon

I need someone else here! :)

I'm doing good still at goal weight almost 9 months later! Not easy but doable. I just realized I had to give up some of my comfort foods forever, find new ways to make them healthier and better for me. Still allow myself a few yummies here and there though just not often.

Keep fighting, your worth it!

V, I'm so impressed by your maintenance, I want to be able to join you this year. I still have a lot to take off, somewhere between 70-80 more lbs (depending on what I decide as my final goal) so it's going to take a while yet, but I am determined to do this. I mean, I gave away all my fat clothes so I have to keep going, right?

Big hugs, strong girl!!!

It's been 8 months since I reached my goal weight! I'm proud to say in those 8 months I have stayed within 2lbs give or take (meaning I lost 2 or gained two back and forth) within my goal weight!! I'm doing it, it's hard I'm not going to lie, but it's worth it. I'm happier than I ever have been before, no, being thinner doesn't make all the problems in life go away, or make it amazing, but it does make it easier when you feel good about yourself. I never want to go back to being miserable within myself. I love who I am and I'm worth it. So are you!

Still eating 6 meals a day, still focusing on lower carbs and staying away from my known nemeses like bread, and sugar sweets. I just have found substitutes to fill my need for those things in a lower carb way. Lifestyle change is what it's all about.

Figured I'd bring this into December. :) I am still doing great, never perfect but I'm still at my goal weight and feeling good. The cold months are kicking my butt physically, my pain is worse than normal but I'm still working on my 6 small meals a day, I seem to be relying on soups more now with the colder temps but they are light soups with low carbs. I've also learned to make my own soups, my favorite so far was a creamy cauliflower one that made me feel like I was having cream of potato soup, yum! I love comfort food, so that helps. I also make cauliflower into rice and mashed potatoes, like I said I love comfort food, and this helps a ton!

I taught my dh how to make cauliflower pizza crusts, he is now a huge fan of it. Btw he is doing great losing weight, and I am so proud of him! :)

I have found the quest bars at local grocery stores, health food stores, etc. but price wise, I find buying them in bulk at vitacost online is cheaper sometimes. Sometimes my local store will have them at $2 a bar and I'll grab a bunch when they do. I'd like it cheaper though. :)

My recommendation to you is to do your research a lot, and when your in transition follow it like week 1 do it for 2 weeks, not one. Week 2 for 2 weeks, and so on. It will help you with transition better if you take it slow. It held me a lot. I actually did most 3 weeks in a row, but I lost 72 lbs and its recommended you do transition even longer the more you lost. It becomes habit, and you learn a ton along the way. :)

Thank you so very much for posting on this forum! I am eagerly anticipating transition. Looking up my veggie options now and starting to look at maintenance options. Quest bars have been recommended by several dieticians. I guess you buy them at GNC?

Anyway, I enjoy following your progress. You're an inspiration!

I'm a slacker on updating on here, but no one cares, right lol! Well, hopefully is helpful later for some of you? :)

I'm doing good, still under my goal weight. I go up and down all the time, but no more than a pound or two during the week (still weigh daily, it helps me keep on track) I think this is normal with fluid retention, and I have severe inflammation issues. The colder the weather is getting, the worse that gets for me, so lately it has been bad, but I keep that in mind on my daily weigh ins.

I'm doing pretty good. I think some days I could do better. I'm trying hard to find different food to eat throughout the day instead of just my go to's which have been bars and shakes, then a decent meal for dinner. It's not working for me. I like variety, but easy always wins out when I'm on the go! I've found a few healthy lower carb bars around here that help, like Quest puts out a few good ones, so does Pure Protein, Met Rx has a couple of ones on the lower sugar/carb front, but they are packed with major protein, and unless your really working out, it doesn't do so well for you. I also found Casein Protein powder works great-Gold Standard puts out a good one in vanilla or chocolate.

I'm eating more light soups too, and egg beaters still. Easy go to's throughout the day. But I'm learning new recipes all the time that I'm enjoying. I even just found a low carb pumpkin pie one I cannot wait to try this holiday season! I do searches on Pinterest for low carb recipes, and find a ton. I'm going to make a soup that is creamy with cauliflower this week, looked yummy. It's about trying new things, not being afraid, and finding new ways to cook your old favorites. Just a few tweaks and you'll be surprised how good it still tastes without feeling guilty. I still use a lot of recipes I did for my lean and greens, I see no reason to stop, it's the only way I am going to maintain this loss. So if you find a recipe you like now on medifast, keep it! :)

I'm finding that continuing to write down my food and water is beneficial for me. Keeps me on the right track, so get used to it, it will be a great habit to stick to!

Have I gone out and eaten a hamburger, fries, etc? NO! Why you ask? I know I won't stop once I start again, so it's not worth it! I did have half a roll the other night at a restaurant we went to, and it was tasty, but I knew it was better to keep it at half, and not try that again for a week or two. It's ok to have little bit of your old favorites from time to time. But if you really want to maintain your going to have to keep it that rare treat! It's ok, you will find new favorites, ones you will not feel guilty indulging in!

Your worth all this hard effort!!

Man, I have been bad at updating on this thread, but I am doing good and hanging in there!

Is it easy? Nope, but it's manageable and doable! If I can, you all can!!

So I'm still under my goal weight. YAY!! emoticon Have I gone up and down a little? Yes, but nothing major, and I still weigh myself everyday too.

I've learned that if I eat something carby or sugary I am more hungry the rest of the day, and I crave more, and I will gain that day. But if I stay low carb I stay good all day and I do not gain. I have allowed myself to enjoy something from time to time so I do not feel deprived, but I find it's not worth it, meaning I do not enjoy it like I used to, it doesn't taste the same. So I have also been finding recipes to make some of my favorite things low carb (especially sweets) and I find them satisfying without feeling cheated, or that I cheated lol!

Love to share some recipes too when your all ready, found some great ones. It really is about changing your lifestyle long term, not just until you make goal, and that it really is ok to live like this and enjoy life still! I am, and I'm loving how I feel too!!

Your worth it, we are worth it!

V--that is so important to learn....how to live a regular life and keep the weight off. I'm glad you had that pie---because it seems to me if you never allow yourself to do things like that there is a greater chance of "blowing it" at some point.

Hi everyone! :)

Well I'm doing good! Almost 3 months since I transitioned into maintenance and I'm happy to say I'm below my goal weight! I have not gone over it ever! Now that doesn't mean I haven't been up and down since maintenance, but never above my goal weight. ;-)

I'm doing good on my own. There are days when I'm offered something and I no longer just say no, I actually weigh in on it and decide "maybe this once?" Like last night my daughter had us for dinner, and I ate a turkey burger with a lettuce wrap, and I also had salad, so I was really good, then she offered a slice of peach pie. I said sure, a tiny, tiny piece, and so I had it, it was yummy, and it was tiny, and I didn't get more! I'm finding if I do that from time to time it's not a big deal, it's when I do it every day, or often, then it will become a big deal.

I also find the more you eat more carby food, the more hungry you become, the cravings are mad too! So, I'm learning to be careful about adding anything real carby like bread, pasta, and desserts to my day. For my sweet tooth I am finding low carb recipes that satisfy my sweet tooth and I do not have to feel guilty. Like sugar free pudding (any flavor) mixed with whipping cream. You can freeze it or refrig it, and it's satisfying to me. I still love my sf jello too with light whipping cream topping. Yum!

I'm finding it's about changing my attitude about food, taking it slowly, and also realizing I cannot go back ever to the way I used to eat, and that is ok! I'd rather be healthy and happy, feel good in my own skin, then go back to eating anything and everything, and hating myself! Hard but worth every effort!! It's mindset, keep it real, work hard on your goals and you will be happy!!

V---so proud of you!

I think each of us are going to have a big learning curve once we go back to eating all regular foods--it is tough to figure out amounts and carbs and what works and what doesn't.

I'm so glad you are working on all of it and keeping strong. Having a little up and down on the scale is going to happen anyway if you're exercising and experimenting.

You are amazing!!

I haven't updated in awhile, but I'm doing good. I'm pretty much done with transition, now on to figuring out how to do all of this on my own!

I gained a few pounds back already, but since I had lost more after hitting my goal, I'm still under my goal weight, so no worries for me. :) I didn't see a change until I added dairy back into my diet, that is when I noticed a change. Maybe dairy doesn't agree with me? Cheese never was an issues, but maybe the cottage cheese is? The gain could be muscle too, I'm exercising more, riding a bike, walking, etc. so it also might be muscle, I'll just keep doing what I'm doing and see?

I bought some Quest bars, they seem the closest I can find to medifast bars, sorta, but they help me throughout the day. But I'm mostly eating small meals throughout the day, from veggies, to fruit, to lean protein like chicken salad, to eggs, to some low fat cottage cheese with berries. It's hard getting it all in and making sure I don't add too many carbs in, but I think I'm doing well. I still haven't had bread or pasta, I know they will be my downfall if I do. I had spaghetti the other day with family, and I just hurry and cooked up spaghetti squash for my noodles and it was fabulous! They had burritos last night, and I just took the toppings and put it on lettuce instead of a tortilla and I was satisfied. I'm just learning to rethink the way I used to eat, have been since day one, and I'm happy!

So, today I officially do it all on my own, wish me luck!! emoticon

Hi all! Just super busy, but doing good. I'm still adding that extra milk product, veggies and fruit while taking 4 medifast meals. I'm staying steady with my weight too, no gain!

I have noticed this last week was tough for me, I ate my food but I felt overly hungry at times, and craving bad food. Seems like adding a little more carbs for me makes me crave more? I think it's something I'm always going to struggle with so I have to be careful and stick with the lower end ones.

Slow and steady is the way to go in this transition and maintenance. Your worth it!!

V, I so agree with you on taking time with each stage---don't rush into post transition eating----after doing full on MF for so long I think it is going to take time to learn new habits in a way that you can stick with them.

It seems like the people who gain back their weight just drop off MF quickly and go to normal eating too fast.

Thank you so much for everything you are posting here!

Ok, this week will be something new! I'm adding a 1/2 cup of low fat or fat free dairy to each day. Along with the extra Cup of veggies and medium sized fruit or 1/2 cup of cubed fruit or berries too.

I talked about re-reading things over and over again, and so when I did just that last night, I realized I've been doing this transition a little wrong lol! I was supposed to be only doing 4 medifast meals by this point (when I added fruit in) but I've still been doing 5 and well, oh well lol! So this week I'll go down to 4 medifast meals and 1 lean and green, and those 3 extras, and see how it goes.

I'll do this for at least 2 weeks before I move onto the next stage. I think the longer I do a stage the more helpful it is to my brain to get into the groove of things. ;-)

Hope your all doing great!

Scarlet, as far as calories go, I'm not really paying attention to a certain number. Same with carbs. I keep track on here but during the day I just add a cup more of veggies a day than normal on 5/1 and a cup more of fruit a day too. Sometimes when I am extra hungry I'll even add more veggies or fruit. It still seems I'm roughly under 100 carbs a day or close to 100. Calories seem to hover between 960-1100 a day right now. I'm sure some of that will change when I enter into my next phase of transition.

It feels like we will always have to be high protein and low carb/sugar. Sticking to the low glycemic index will be key. If you follow Dr. a's book it's so helpful on living this every day afterwards. It's doable, and my body likes it so I'm going to stay with it. :)

V--do you have a number you try to stay under in regards to carbs and calories (if you count calories)? I was curious if you are staying around the same numbers as when you were on Medifast, or are able to up your overall numbers a bit?

I feel like staying low carb, higher protein would be the way to go for the rest of my life, and I wondered if that was kind of how transition worked or not.

Thanks!

Here's my weekly check in. :) I am doing great! Staying focused and eating more, but eating more of the right things. I'm enjoying strawberries, raspberries very much so too, and adding them to my salads has been such a treat as well.

I've kicked up my calorie intake, but stayed in the low glycemic index foods of my veggies and fruit, and thus maintaining my weight. I lost 3 lbs more after transition, and I seem to be hovering over that weight the last two weeks, no more loss, and no gain. I do notice since I'm a daily weigher that I do go up and down a lot more during the week, but always in the end maintain that weight loss, and because I lost those extra 3 lbs after goal, it honestly would bother me to gain back the 3 lbs if I did. It's not going to make me freak out at all. ;-)

I'll continue on my path through transition, adding in more veggies and fruit, even some light dairy too.

Cannot wait for you all to join me!

A new week, and still going well! I'm just going to continue adding more veggies and fruit this week. I did pretty well last week, except yesterday I forgot to add an extra veggie. I'm getting all my meals in though and feeling great. No major changes is helping me with this transition I feel, slow and steady is the way to go. :)

I can't wait to have more of you here with me too, keep pushing ladies, you've got this! emoticon emoticon

V, I think as long as you're adding calories, you're doing great! I guess your body will tell you when you're at the right weight. Especially since you're not doing a lot of exercising (like running marathons). Just make sure your calories are where they should be. You are so awesome!

What's your family's reaction to the new you?!

Been so busy the last few weeks, especially the last week. Want to update some....I added fruit this week, continued to add more veggies too. Been hard which I found to be interesting, not because I wasn't interested in adding these things, but because I wasn't hungry enough to add them, and was forced to eat them in a way. It was kind of hard, but I did it.

That and I've lost more weight, almost 2 pounds since I started transition. It kind of bugs me, when I saw my weight this morning I had mixed feelings. Thinking cool because it's way better than a gain, but thinking "should I weigh less than my goal?" "Is it healthy?" "Is it normal for my body?" "Should I be happy about it, or concerned?" Basically a lot of thoughts all at once, but I also am not going to let it affect me either on this journey. I'm going to stay the course and see where it takes me. I mean I'm eating more calories, eating healthy food, drinking lots of water and feeling good, so it must be ok, right? :)

This week I will continue to add fruit and veggies, I think I may add the fruit like strawberries to my shake for a change, or raspberries?' I think for something different I'm going to just cut up a bunch of veggies and snack on them too, not just make a salad, etc. oh and I received my bars, so yay! All is well.

Keep pushing ladies! emoticon

I agree with Scarlet, I won't be in transition for a while but it's nice to prepare and hear about how it's done. Getting into the right mindset is key!

V, thank you for keeping this thread going--I know it's a long time before maintenance for me, but I am already trying to get the right mind set.

I have to say it's funny that you've gotten to eat fruit again, as I think seeing all the berries in the stores is the toughest thing (I love love fresh raspberries and blackberries). I will be there next Summer for sure!

I never dreamed I would want fruit over chocolate, but my brownies and shakes really do satisfy that craving!

Ok, doing good! I added fruit in today and I ate strawberries! Oh my goodness what a treat!! I like this new phase for sure.

Little snafu with my food order but I'm figuring it out until I get my order. Once I stopped panicking I realized it will all work out.

Still adding that extra cup of veggies too. Feel so full now. Stay on this course for a couple more weeks, and move on from there.

We got this ladies! emoticon

LGA, your so cute! Lots of questions! :) I answered a little to Belle on daily thread, but I'll answer some here too.

I'm still doing 6 meals a day, I'm still using medifast 5/1 food and 1 lean and green a day, but in transition the first week (or three-depending on how much weight you lost during your goal) you add an extra cup of veggies to your day. So I have been adding things from green beans, to Brussel sprouts, to extra salad, etc. during lunch time hours. It's been interesting, and I find it hard some days-I'm actually not hungry, but I force myself to anyway. Some days I actually am hungry enough to eat them. It has not changed my hunger, so that is good. :) Next week I will start to add some fruit during the day along with the extra greens. I will add fruit low on the glycemic like strawberries, raspberries, etc. I'm excited!!

I am still wearing my fitbit even though I hate to, I ordered another kid I can clip on, I think I will like that one more. I'm hitting my 10,000 steps a day on average, and it motivates me to do so.

As far as weight, I actually stayed the same for over a week and a half, then I lost some more, and so I am 6 ounces past my goal! My body is loving this extra greens and calories, and it's a small change-so it's smart to do this like this, makes sense to me. I will give you the link to maintenance transition so you too can see what I'm talking about.

I'm drinking a ton of water still, plus my coke zero ;-) also I like the crystal light knock offs too during the day. I love adding lemon or lime to my water too.

I'm feeling great!!! I feel confident for the first time in years. I feel healthy, I feel energetic, I feel active and capable, I feel awesome!! As for my joint issues, and other health issues, well, unfortuantly they still are there, but all the other stuff helps me push through all that easier in my opinion. :)

Thanks for always thinking of me! emoticon emoticon www.medifastmedia.com/shared/docs/tr

V, what are your meal plans looking like? Are you still doing 6 meals a day? Are you still wearing your FitBit? How are you keeping your weight so even? Are you still drinking as much water? Are you feeling better or worst?

V---so cool to be staying the same, I know that must really encourage you every day to stay on plan.

Maybe it's a good thing in a way that you are not fighting being hungry, as that is one of the toughest things to deal with.

Hey, V! I just sent you a message on the daily thread. Was wondering how your transition was going. Forgot to check here first.

Awesome job of having no gain. That is my biggest fear. I keep hearing how people gain it back. My oldest daughter, also, informed me that once I start eating carbs it'll all come back.

So, keep up the great work. I'm inspired and know it can be done successfully!

Hi al! I made it through my first week in transition. Not sure how well I did in terms of eating those extra veggies, I tried, so hard to remember when your used to a certain way for so long..lol! But I'm getting better at it. This week I will keep adding the veggies in the afternoons this week.

LGA, I am still weighing in every day, I'm doing good, no gain! I also haven't noticed any extra hunger than normal, in fact last night I had to force myself to eat my last meal, I was full! :) I think it's going to take awhile to get used to it I suppose. Thanks for thinking of me. emoticon

V--I think having some of the quick, sweet MF meals on hand would be really smart---you can use them as a meal replacement and throw a bar in your purse in case you're out and about too.

I plan to keep the brownies in my house right into maintenance---

Ok, this week has been hard for me to get in the extra veggies. I've been so busy, and running around all day that I don't have time to get it in. Then I try to just add it to my lean and green and I'm too full too do it then! Lol! So, I've only successfully done it once in 3 days. I'm going to try today of course, but I have a lot of running around to do today too. Maybe I'll have to pop open a can of beans today to make it easier? Lol!

Other than that I am doing good. I have a yummy salad last night that made me enjoy salads that much more! I think I like variety in them. My food is getting low, and I need to order again. Part of me doesn't want to, I want to be done with the MF food, but I know I need to keep going through transition, and I'm also scared not to have it because I'm not ready yet to do this on my own. But I'll get there! :) I think though I'm going to order just shakes and bars this time?

Ok, off to my day! Hope you all have a great one too!

Hi all! Not sure who might still be on here, but I will document my journey here with transition into maintenance phase.

Day #1 I just added a cup more of salad greens to my day. I didn't have time today to add anything else more fun, but maybe tomorrow I will roast my veggies, grab some asparagus or Brussels sprouts? This will be for at least two weeks of my transition, it's recommended since I lost more than 50 lbs that maintenance transition lasts about 12 weeks, so maybe 3 weeks like this but I'll see how I feel at two weeks. I'm looking forward to fruit added in a couple of weeks, so I might not make 3 weeks lol!

My body enjoyed the extra calories me thinks, felt natural and ready for it!

Keep going, we can do it!! emoticon

Week one I'll be adding more veggies! I think I'm going to add ones I haven't had in awhile, not the highest carb ones of course, but something different, and I'm going to roast them! :)

Christina, if you are still reading these posts, know that we miss you! My thoughts and prayers are with you! Hopefully, you're doing well and have just moved on from MF. You started this transition thread so every time I check in, I'm thinking of you and your success through MF. You taught us that transition and maintaining is HARD! (but I remember your post stating being fat is hard, losing is hard, so pick your hard)

Thank you for leading the way and sharing your struggles. It's hard being real in front of others.

MLS! So good to see you again! emoticon Yay for maintaining your weight loss so far! Proud of you.

Sounds like a lot of stress, but some good things too. Sometimes life throws us a bit, but maybe our plans were not always ready for us just yet? Things will happen when they need to. Hope you find happiness in the journey. :) Good luck on your job opportunity, and whatever you decide to do on the diet plan it will work out! emoticon

Hi transitioners and maintainers! I can't wait to be here too.

Christina, I hope you're doing ok.

Good job Mommysluckystar! I can relate to every thing you said, that's pretty much been my pattern after every time I've lost weight. It WILL be different this time. Keep up the great work!

Christina - I hope things go well this week. If you're still having trouble try eating more for breakfast. I find that being hungry at the start of my day really just makes me feel deprived and less tolerant of hunger later in the day. I honestly don't recommend going back on the 5-1 unless you plan to lose more weight. With how active you are, I think that 4-2 at minimum is more appropriate.

Hi,

I've been a little MIA. My computer broke and things have been a little crazy. Transition over all went well as in I was able to maintain my weight loss. I have been eating some naughty meals - pizza, wings. beer etc, but my feeling is that in normal life a person does have pizza on occasion. For the most part I am trying to maintain a south beach style diet. Morning I usually have ff cottage cheese or yogurt with blueberries. Lunch is a salad with a protein or a tuna wrap. Dinner is a lean meat and veggies. Some nuts or string cheese or fruit for snacks (that is my ideal day). This week has been bad in that I've had several days of being off track for one meal, but I have been doing well getting back on track...for now. I have been replacing a meal here or there with a medifast meal if the day prior was particularly bad. I still have to consciously struggle not to fall into my old ways. In the past I would basically try to eat as little as possible for as long as possible and then usually fall apart in the evening and eat total garbage. This will work for a while, then I just started eating junk for every meal and the weight gain starts.

Things over the last 2 weeks have been so up in the air I have been fighting really hard with stress eating. our previous 2 year plan was to get pregnant at the end of this summer, have a baby in the spring, my husband would be finishing school that same spring, then we were going to put our house on the market and I was going to start looking for a new job in the city we hope to move to. BUT. A really great job came up in our target city so I have been going through the interview process and it looks promising. I have gone through 1 phone interview, 2 in person interviews and a job shadow. They started checking my references yesterday, so there is a good possibility that they will be offering me a job. So we may be moving this fall instead. My husbands classes are online so that really isn't a problem, but if I change jobs we will have to put off having a baby for a year. That is throwing me off a little. I am thinking of going back on 5-1 and trying to lose some more weight.

My original goal weight was chosen in part because I knew I wanted to be off the diet, and maintaining my weight for a few months before I got pregnant, so I chose a weight that I knew would be doable and would put me at a normal BMI. Now, since that is getting put off I'm thinking of working on my vanity lbs. On the other hand, being on medifast is so much more comfortable. Having to actually make food choices brings so much added stress to my day, I wonder if I am just looking for an excuse to go running back. Hmmm... so much to think about.

Christina,

I'm so sorry you've been going through all this and you feel like you're off plan. I think transition is the hardest part, especially when you have been as strong and focused as you were. BUT I also think you have a LOT of %$! going on in your life right now that could definitely lead to binges!

As someone else said, we ALL have food issues or we wouldn't be here. We understand.

Don't be too hard on yourself, just keep trying and keep plugging. It doesn't look like you've hurt your actual weight any, and you're very active. You have learned a lot that will help you, if you let it. What did you do when hungry on 5/1? Hot tea? Bouillon? Distract yourself? Do that now!

Kristina

So I don't want to jinx myself emoticon
But so far this is my first day without a binge in over 3 weeks.... Night time is hard for me but so far so good, I have my little dessert planned and then off to bed tonight.

Have my meals all planned for next week and I am increasing calories over lunch so hopefully the full feeling will stave off the trips for extra food and then the downward spiral.

I also made some of my favorite foods (like low carb broccoli cheese soup) to have over lunch so hopefully I can take my time to savor it and I wont scarf down what I have and then be looking for more.

If this plan doesn't work this week I'll probably be back to 5/1 and I may do it anyway for 2 weeks or so just to get myself back on track.

I REALLY want to thank you all for the continued emails and messages. I think your belief in me plus my prayers to the higher power today are what has led me to stay on track today and turn away from the binge items / triggers.

Keep me in thoughts / prayers. I need 'em!!!

Christina, so happy for your mom! She will be in my prayers.

Please don't feel bad or like you can't post what's going on with you. No one here is perfect, we have food issues....that's how we all got where we are! Every day is another opportunity to make a different choice. Sometimes that choice is healthy sometimes not so much. Just know we support you wherever you are in you're journey, however you decide to work it. Please take care of yourself though, as a mom, I know that's what your mom wants!

Great news, Christina! Now, it's time to go back to caring for YOU! I don't think it's a bad idea to go back on the 5&1 (or the 4&2) for a week or two to get your bearings back. It's a safe place that you know you were able to handle. In fact, you kicked butt on the 5&1. Then start the transition phase again.

You can so do this!

Good news on your mom Christina! Yay!! Prayers are answered for sure. :)

Hang in there on the food, take one day at a time. You can do this! Next time you find yourself at convienent store, buy a salad, or boiled eggs, or some nuts instead. Just force yourself to make better choices, even if you eat more than you wanted to, it's better food for you. :) the past is the past, today is a new day, tomorrow even better. You can do it!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hey all!

Thanks for all of the positive wishes right now! They are so welcome! I wish I had better news about myself but I don't which is why I haven't been posting.

HOWEVER I do have good news on my mom. There is definitely something 'off' about her health right now but the scan did not show any new cancer 'spots'. So that is awesome news. They wont be changing her chemo protocol right now (which means she gets to keep her hair, I know its a silly thing but she is so excited to have it back for all of the family gatherings and photos this summer). I am planning a big surprise for her for Mother's day, I can't wait for her to find out :)

As far as food, what a mess lol. I think I am eating worse now then I have ever eaten in my entire life. Its like my self control has just completely turned off right now. Like I used it all up in the last 3 mos OP and now I can't seem to find it again.

Contemplating re-starting the 5/1 program but also feeling conflicted about it because the reason I stopped 5/1 was because I was exercising too much to support it. I plan to be running 10 miles by fall and a half marathon by winter and I just don't feel like Medifast is designed to support that type of running long term. I want to continue to exercise at my current level or more (if my knee is better anyway) but I am really struggling to make any sort of consistent healthy food choices and I could not exercise this week because I am giving the knee a break. Hopefully next week I will be back on track with exercise at least.

I usually start each day out well, good breakfast (either MF breakfast or egg white and low carb toast), MF shake or bar for mid morning break then I start eating my pre-packed L&G or low carb type lunch and then ALWAYS find myself at the gas station / grocery store after lunch basically starting a binge which continues through the rest of the day. Arggghhh, it is so frustrating.

I feel so bad posting this, it is breaking my heart to tell the truth of what is going on. I was so good on 5/1 and now I am such a mess lol. I don't want to discourage the group, I am sure 99.99999% of people do just fine off 5/1. I think its just a personal problem being a hot mess right now emoticon
Anyway I appreciate all of the support, more then you guys can know. So thanks from the bottom of my heart emoticon

Christina,

I just wanted to pop in and let you know I'm thinking of you....you are in a tough place and I know food can be comforting....if nothing else go for food that isn't as bad for you so you are giving yourself healthy choices....and be kind to yourself.

Keep posting here whether you blew it or not eating wise, as you have a lot of support here and we all care about you.

I'm a cancer survivor, and I know that it is very tough on everyone around the person who has cancer, to watch them suffer and not be able to fix it. But I also know as the person who had the cancer, that I wouldn't want what I'm going through to cause you so much stress or to undermine what you have accomplished.....so take baby steps back to health every time you can take them, and you will get back on the path, and that will be good for both you and your mom..

You've got the prayers Christina emoticon I'm a firm believer in God helping us be able to handle anything put before us. He makes us strong where we are weak. Each trial we have make us stronger if we let them. He might not be able to take it away every time, we need some of these trials to learn and grow from, even when they might be happening to someone else in our life. But he will help us come through them, better and stronger for them. He is our rock, he never fails us. He will help you get through this, just keep asking.

Cancer sucks! My step father has been dealing with it for 3 + years now, stage four and knows he's blessed to live this long so far. My mom had a scare in February as you may remember with skin cancer. My step mom just finished chemo for her ovarian cancer, and my dear friend who had stage four breast cancer is back in hospital having her millionth surgery it seems for all the things chemo did to her body, but she is a fighter! That has been biggest key I've seen is everyone's attitude, it's gotten them through these tough times. Find the joy in the journey no matter what.

Find something you love that releases that stress for you in these tough times. I know running is a great one, but I also know you love horses, so go ride them! I know when I used to be able to ride horses, nothing was better! The feeling of galloping with them was amazing, freeing, soul lifting, exhilarating! Find an outlet like that, find new ways to cope without it being food. Ask God to give you that strength, he will.

You can do it!! emoticon emoticon

(I know this isn't a religious place per se, so I usually don't share stuff like this, but I know you are and asked for prayers, so I wanted to share with you. Much love my friend)

Hahaha Rocktog misery loves company ;)

My knee feels better then it did over the weekend although I have not tried running again and I am officially giving it 7 days off (at least) from running and I am trying to find lower impact things to do this week instead of run so I can still do some exercise. Hopefully if I baby it now I can get back on track soon.

My problem was not Transition per se.

It boils down to the fact that I eat to deal with emotional struggles especially with my mom's diagnosis. Until I get this under control my eating is out of control.

We are bracing for a big update on her cancer Thursday this week, thoughts and prayers for us (and for me to deal with the news without food regardless what it is).

Glad your race went wellM sorry about the injury. I injured my hip flexor, not in my 10-miler, but in my run 2 days after. Should have been a recovery run, but I pushed it and, wham. I totally know what you mean about needing to be able to run for mental health.

I've read up. Trying to prepare for transition in the next 6 weeks.

LGA congrats! And yay on doing well so far.

Hi LGA and V!!! I miss you guys too!!! I really appreciate you guys and hope you both are staying strong OP!!!

Sorry I have fallen off the end of the world emoticon

Food has been a total disaster right now and despite trying multiple re-starts I can't seem to find my way back.

I did not want to bog you guys down with my stuff since everyone is doing so well and it can be so hard staying on strict 5/1.

Hopefully I will have good things to post about again and can rejoin you all soon.

In good news I finished my first EVER 10K on Saturday! I was 58s over my goal time...so close!
Bad part is I hurt my knee near the last mile of the race, I hope not badly but if it is not better soon I will be going into the Doc to make sure it is not serious. It breaks my heart to have an injury right now because I really need to run for the mental break it gives. Yikes! Horrible timing with everything but at least I finished the race well and enjoyed the experience.

Transition is good. I started with week 2 today. I had 1/2 cup of cottage cheese and an apple for breakfast and dropped a medifast meal. I completely forgot about my cup of veggies though, oops. Need to get that right tomorrow. It's odd, it just feels like too much food.

CMAT you have to remember that this is real life and you can't always be on strict dietary regimen. Some days there will be an off the track meal. Its just a matter of it being an occasional meal and not letting it turn into an off day, an off week, an off month.... You can do this.

MLS welcome to transition how is it going? I remember how exciting it was to be able to have some veggies I missed like peas such a simple thing. CMAT this is part of T&M it has been harder for me dealing with tough times because it is not as simple as 5&1 you can't just grab a packet but have so much wiggle room and planning involved. Remember what you have a accomplished and maybe this would be a good time to revisit your why's for getting healthier. One thing I have learned as well is to not let one mess up or slip de-rail the whole day or week, jump right back in. But most of all be kind to yourself you are a work in progress, it is not an all or nothing.

You lost 42 lbs! Which in itself is an incredible feat! We know how hard it is to lose (mentally, physically and emotionally). So, if you could do that............you can do ANYTHING! Face those difficulties in life with the same motivation you faced losing the weight and you've got this.

You are incredible! Stronger than you could imagine!

Hahaha wish I could say it was ;) Not sure where to go right now but struggling.

Life has gotten very difficult (lots of hard stuff going on) and my instant go - to in order to deal with it is food. So unfortunately I have feel back in to that habit a few days this week.

I am still a work in progress and am trying not to beat myself up too bad about it. Still trying to find healthier ways to deal with stress and not the food.....

Hope you are doing well MLS and enjoying extra veggies...

Today was my first day transition. I was waiting to hit my goal, then overshot by a lb - oops. I guess I will have some buffer. I ate some carrots for a snack and brussel sprouts with dinner. It felt weird eating extra food during the day so I ended up splitting it into morning and afternoon. I still felt hungry, but I don't think carrots were the best choice, but that was what was handy this AM. Looking forward to next week, the veggies honestly just weren't that exciting.

CMat, the hunger is hard, but remember we can't hide out in ketosis forever, at some point you will adjust.

Christina, sorry your struggling with hunger. I bet the add carbs and getting out of ketosis is what makes that more so. I'm scared of that part too. But hang in there your doing great! I agree you should add more calories. Good luck! emoticon emoticon

CMat, if you are still losing time to bump the calories a little bit, 100 calories at a time. I just recently started making infused water and it has really helped with feeling more satisfied. I just add a lime lemon orange and cucumber to a pitcher of water and let it set in the frig for at least 4 hours. I drink a lot of water so I refill the pitcher and use the fruit for a whole day then start with fresh fruit the next day. I know you are not planning on adding fruit and while I am not eating it I am getting the flavor and some nutrients from the fruit and cucumbers. Sounds like you are listening to your body and learning how to do this.

Still struggling with hunger this week...such a common them for me lol. Feel like I am in general eating the right things maybe just not enough????

Somehow managed a loss this week of over a lb. Definitely do not want or need to be losing any more so I am officially giving myself permission to eat more but only the right food (low carb / high protein).

Still a work in progress.

Hope everyone is doing well.

MLS - How are you doing? Adding extra veggies in???

Thanks on the great tips and Congrats on maintaining your weight loss! I know now the challenge lol!!!

Yesterday I changed things up and really liked the outcome

I did a MF Meal replacement for early am before my run then 3 larger lean and green type meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They were all very high protein, lower carb. Each one was between 300-400 calories. Then finished the day with a MF meal replacement for dessert.

I was so much less hungry then trying to do a modified 5/1 with adding veggies / dairy / protein in.

I am going to experiment with this type of meal plan again and if I end up feeling as full I may switch over. I really struggle to feel full after little meals so this may be the right choice for me.

Also this week I get to "officially" add a second lean and green in and drop my lunch MF meal. Excited! But I do have to do way more cooking to accommodate it lol.

Hope everyone has an awesome Monday!!!!

Thanks, V. I'm trying to learn as much as I can about food choices so I'm never in this situation again. I've lost weight so many times to only gain it back. Determined not to allow it to happen this time.

Lga, why its good to have protein with fruit is to help with the sugar spikes fruit can have on us. Eating all foods with each other like protein, starch, fat, etc. helps stabalize each other and our systems. Probably not the right wording, but I hope you get the jist of it. ;-)
