Our grey is not afraid of any load noises. We have to move her legs when we vacuum and fireworks don't bother her at all. I know she can hear because she comes quickly when called.

LOL JULIA maybe I should send my "kids" to jail. They're well behaved but just kind of on their own. I've not done any 'training' with them. Oh except Exley does, on command, FLAPPY FEET. Kind of like a Lipizaner w/ loose legs!

@ BIGHAIRTEXAN, my Jade sits, too. Jade & Gemma learned to sit in prison. One of the AZ adoption groups has a special program in place where some of the greyhounds coming in to the group go live at prison for 9 weeks. For more info, visit racinghome.info then click on the "Prison Program" link.

They learn sit, wait, lie down, basic walking manners, door manners, and heel. The smart ones learn extra tricks. On command, Jade will: bow, high-five, or lie down, let you place a treat on her foot, and wait for permission to eat the treat. It's very cool to show off her repertoire of tricks when I'm out doing adoption PR!

My Grey hates anything loud...fireworks, thunder, the vaccuum or a door that slams. During rain or fireworks, she uses my closet as her panic room, and she won't come out until I get home and sit on the floor just outside the closet to encourage her to come out. Im just glad that she is not destructive.

WOW, I've never ever had any of my greys ever sit. Ok Bacall did but it was a very legs akimbo kind of sit. By command or just on their own, mine just don't do it. My whippet will, but not the rest of the gang.

My black girl, Rio, is afraid of loud noises; however my outgoing, goofy black brindle girl Jade, is not the least bit afraid. With Jade staying totally calm during the noise it lent courage to Rio. Instead of going to hide in my bedroom, she just hung close to Jade, apparently understanding that if Jade wasn't scared, she too would be safe.

My friend's greyhound, Gemma, loves loud noises. She learned early on to sit when she wants something. When the thunder, gunfire, or fireworks stop, she'll run to the doorway, then sit and look expectantly at my friend, as if to say: "I'm sitting. Make it come back."

One of my 3 dogs cowers in my closet. The other 2 are oblivious. But I had a black (except for her tuxedo) greyhound that was afraid of everything. The first time we had a thunder storm..... and gosh do we get them in Texas...... I could't find her. We called and called. We looked everywhere, esp. in the closets. We even went outside in the rain thinking we had let her out and had amnesia! For an hour we were panicked. For the 5th time i went back to the closet and saw a black tail w/ a tiny white tip. She'd gone in and gotten in a little "cave" in my closet in the corner behind some drawers and behind my clothes. She'd do the same thing for fireworks. Boy I miss her (gone 2 years this week).

Our greyt doesn't like T-storms so she thinks fireworks are the same. She runs and hides in the closet!

For the last week, we have had storms, throw in some fireworks and she has pretty much lived in the closet all week:)

Wyatt doesn't care about them. He goes about his business as if there aren't any. Darla gets nervous when she hears them. Luckily, our window AC is loud enough to block out most of it so she did calm down quickly.

Taking it one step at a time.

Living outside of Philadelphia, we had more than our fair share of fireworks for the 4th of July. The constant explosion of sound completely freaks out our doberman... but the greyhound sleeps right through it.
How does your grey make out with fireworks?
