Before I got my dogs, my only car was a baby blue t-bird. (I still have it but rarely drive it). I got my first greyhound and went... OK this won't work. So bought a small SUV. I now have 2 greys and 1 whippet and they all hunker down in the back. In fact, the rear seat is always folded down w/ a quilt on top. I call it my DOG CAR!

It's not safe to have a dog in your lap when you're driving! It's a distraction and also, the dog could easily be killed by either the airbag or impact in an accident.

My two greys happily share the backseat in my Corolla. For short trips, just the seat. For long trips, I fill the area where people would put their feet, up to the level of the backseat, then cover the whole thing with dog beds.

My grey happily takes up the whole back seat, with one of her beds to lounge on for longer trips.

We're the same way. They just ride in the back. Tho the vet would probably say there is a better way to do it.

My husband has a station wagon. When we take the dogs on an outing, both our greyt and non-greyt just ride in the back. We do not crate them or strap them in.

A bill being debated in the Rhode Island General Assembly would prohibit motorists from driving with dogs in their laps. A first offense would draw a fine of $85, and a second $100. I suspect most people would agree that dogs don't belong behind the steering wheel, and obviously a grey would never fit :)
But when you travel with your dog in the car, where does the dog sit? Are they strapped in?
