Hey everyone!! I don't post here often, but I pop in and read posts from time to time. I just wanted to share that I ran my first 1/2 Marathon yesterday (Vancouver USA Marathon). It was really challenging, but I did it! I didn't set a real time goal for my first 1/2, but I wanted to do it in under 2 1/2 hours. My offical time was 2:22:10. I am pretty happy and can't wait for my next one in OCT! Thanks for all the good advice on this board. It helped out a lot!!

I finished my first half marathon today with a time of 2:55. My goal was to be under 3. It was very exhilirating. Went way better than my first 6mile race a few weeks ago. Tonight my legs are a bit stiff but otherwise feeling good. I also finished strong and gave it my all running to that wonderful finish line!!

BUNNYSKI: congratulations on completing your half marathon trail run. Trail runs are always slower than running on streets.

SHORTY20: Good job finishing your 5K. Heat and no water are a tough combination. Glad you finished and didn't have any problems.

I ran a 5k on Saturday, and the heat was absolutely killer!

It was actually a pretty cool course, it was on an air force base, and the final mile or so was around the tarmac where like 5 or 6 huge cargo planes were parked. There was no shade whatsoever though, and the water stop ran out of water :(

It was pretty brutal. I finished in a so-so time for me (29:04), but was really, really glad when it was over!

Be fearless.

Ran my first half today at the San Lorenzo River Trail Run. Finished in 2:49 (3rd in my age group but only 48th overall), which is way slower than I've been running on my training runs, but I was training mostly on asphalt. The trail run was beautiful but difficult: there was a 2,175 feet elevation gain, so the hills were brutal, and it involved a river crossing. The river crossing was cool--water going up a little above my waist and a pretty good current. Overall, I'm happy with how it went.

I just have to post this because I am proud of myself. I completed my first half marathon on May 29th in 2:01:17. I was aiming for 10 minute miles and I ran faster than that! I crossed the finish line with my sister and it was exhilarating. I am excited for my 10 mile race in July! To all the other half marathoners out there good luck! Its well worth the training!

I ran my first half marathon this weekend in Madison! My goal was to try and keep the 2:30 pace team in sight, but I passed the 2:20 pace team around mile 6. I was so surprised! I finished in 2:16:46 - not bad for someone who has been running since March. When I filled out my registration a few months ago I was honestly worried abut the 3:05 cut off. I can't believe how far I've come since my first three mile run!

I've registered and paid for my next two half marathons, August 13th (it's in the mountains) and October 9 (Rock 'n Roll).

I have friends doing the full R n R, and they were encouraging me to do so as well. I decided to sign up for the half and stick to my plan of running HMs for a year, then begin training for a full.

ME40ME, that sucks, sorry to hear about your IT band! Way to finish it, though! It may not be the way you'd have envisioned it, but you finished your half!
Good luck with the PT and take good care of yourself!

CARYNW, congratulations on completing your second half marathon.

ME40ME, stick with it. You'll be out there running soon enough. If you can complete 10 miles with IT Band problems once your healthy you'll get that half done.

ME40ME, so sorry to read about your IT band problem during your first HM. Good for you for still finishing. I hope you heal quickly, safely and are back to strong health soon!

Completed my first half on Sunday in Williamsburg, VA. I ran with it band problems and on mile 10 it was over. I sat on the ground crying. My running partner stayed with me. Decision was made to walk the last 3.1 miles. I was very disappointed but I knew I was injured. I will run again. Went to physical therapy and I will heal if I follow directions and give it time. I don't feel like a HM runner but I will be before 2011 ends. I'm think November race in Richmond.

One Mile, One Pound at a time...I will get there while I smile!

Thanks, everyone! It felt even better than the first one, too... I had no doubt I could finish, whereas in last month's, I doubted my ability (in the last mile, too!) to make it! I'm so pumped up that now I'm eyeing the Virginia Beach Rock 'n' Roll 1/2 marathon in Sept. It's a stepback week in my marathon training, so why not make it fun!?
Anyone else planning to run that one?
