Hi there! ~ The painting turned out wonderfully! Way to go!! ~It's funny that you asked if I had gotten my "breath back" from school start up.... I've been off of work for 4 weeks now with pneumonia!!! I'm really hoping that I get the green light to return (at least for 1/2 days) next week! This weekend was the first time that I actually had enough energy to sit at my easel and sketch. I have started to build a website of my artwork tho.... (still have so much to capture on digital images...so the site is constantly being updated) Check it out and let me know your thoughts! www.seaspiritstudios.com

Hi there! I am an artist out of Whitehall, NY. I am actually an Art teacher who can't find a job :(. I do a little of everything, from painting to drawing to sculpture. I make jewelry as a side job. I focus on birds a lot in my artwork. I just applied for an artist's grant and won't find it if I received it until mid-November. The suspense is killing me! I, unfortunately, do not do a lot of artwork, and it kills me everyday. I wish that I could do something everyday. I would love the inspiration to do so!

I've posted a photo of me with the painting on my sparkpage. Check it out! I really enjoyed doing that one.
How are you getting on being back at school? Got your breath back yet?!
I've not done a lot since that painting. Just carried on with something else I'm working on and sketched out some new ideas. I tend to have quite a few pieces on the go at a time that I come and go from when the inspiration takes me.

Hi!
I have yet to post any pictures yet....(hopefully this week)... However those plans may go out the window as classes begin tomorrow!!!! (Wow ~ I really do not feel ready...)
The poem for Hannah sounds whimsical and fun!!
And I would say paint the giraffes in any setting you want... You're creating something bright and fun for a special young person and if she loves giraffes I'd say go for it!!
Have a good day! (I'm waiting to catch a plane home from a 100th year family reunion!)

I'm just about to start a painting for my God-daughter's first birthday. She likes giraffes and her bedroom theme is the rainforest. Giraffes don't live in the rainforest though, they live in the African Savannah (so I'm told). My god=daughter's name is "Hannah". So, I've got the idea for a poem (savannah rhymes with hannah) surrounded by art. I've got a square canvas and I'm going to use acrylics. I've rarely done children's style art so it will be fun!
HAve you posted pictures of your butterfly paintings yet?
Are you back at school teaching now?

Hi. That's great. What a nice feeling to complete a piece of work.
I am caught up in a new business project and I am applying my creative talents to posters and leaflets and interior design. Not the same as creating a single piece of art but still satisfying!

So I'm almost finished one of the paintings. It needs a bit of "embellishment" ~ I'm not sure... but it needs to go a bit further. What are you working on right now?

HI! For these paintings I'm using acrylics...but wish I had used my oils! I had decided to use acrylic paints because I am moving into a time frame where next week my mind will be returning to work and I'll be busy prepping for the coming school year (I teach art, sculpture, jewellery at one of the Secondary schools in my town). I wanted to work quickly and the drying time of acrylics works in favor of that!
You asked me how long it would take for me to finish a canvas....sometimes I just fly in their creation (I paint at all hours, for hours on end) Other times my life places natural balance points in and they progress slower. I almost always paint several canvases at the same time...in a perfect world I would be able to have several easels set up in a studio so I could work "in the round"...

Oh wonderful. I look forward to seeing them when they're done. How long does it take you to complete a canvas? How long do you work for at a time before getting tired? Are you using oils?

Nancita10's 2 butterfly pic's are beautiful! I began painting the backgrounds today using really warm toasty colours ~ the vision I have in my head is to create two paintings that have layers of warmth and texture built into the overall image. I'll post the finished results as soon as I can (the background always seems to take the longest as I love building the colour)

Well done! Priming is essential work! Working on the foundations is important as without it nothing would exist.
I love the butterfly symbol so much. Working with it has been amazing. I like the Butterfly Maiden in Doreen Virtue's Goddess Cards. You can follow the link to see the picture...

I had set the goal of balancing my creative side with the new "active" side of me that is trying to get my weight and health under control. The most that I managed to do today was to prime 2 new canvases that I had recently stretched and 2 wood painting "canvases" that my husband had built for me to experiment on.
I am seeking Dragonfly images, Butterfly images, anything that goes through a metamorphosis so that I can compile it together to create a couple of pieces of art that will speak about how I am feeling.
Any ideas?

I have been trying to do something artistic every single day. I don't always manage it but today I sketched some flowers. I find it hard sometimes to push myself and even hard to concentrate on the art work but while doing it I find it meditative. ANd I love seeing a beautiful result at the end of it.
I looked into paper clay a little. I realise that I have used air hardening clay before now jut to do a little piece. I found it quite hard but wonder if I can add water? I'm going to look into papier mache as well though I think that needs a firm structure to attach to so not sure it's my thing. I like to work with something soft and flexible.

I'm new to the team and think it's great for us all to share what we are working on. I'm fairly new to art but it's like dynamite for me.
My difficult past means that i haven't truly been ablt to "be" myself. I started some art classes a few years ago at the same time I started my healing journey and it's opened up a whole new world.
Right now I can't imagine NOT creating. It's as important as breath.
I'm doing well with my weight loss and so in all areas of my life too.
I recently completed my first oil painting of a pink lotus flower (usually I have a spiritual theme) which I loved doing. I often work with acrylics. My deepest craving is to work with clay to create sculptures....abstract spiritual forms, angels etc.
Wishing everyone a wonderful flow of creativity...

~ So I am currently working on about 4 bodies of work. (sounds chaotic...) but I like the variety it allows me. I am working out how to achieve the translucent nature of jellyfish.... so far (and many layers later...) I'm still in the experimental phase. Today I'm heading to the water to sketch out the landscape of the coastal mountains to the East of me. I'm also working on several portraits trying to imitate the stained wash appearance of the old masters (where they used those lovely toasty burnt umber and sienna tones).
What are you currently working on?

~ Hello!!! I just joined last week and I'd love a painting pen pal! I live on Vancouver Island and am currently trying to balance an active lifestyle change with my passion of standing in front of an easel painting! (I also do lampworking, collage, photography, pottery and silversmithing.... the list follows my whims at the moment!)

I am an artist living in Santa Fe NM. This town has so much art that it's impossible not to be inspired every day. And, we have the most awesome sky, landscape and light found anywhere in the world. I am primarily a metalsmith (jewelry and sculpture) but also paint. I love art and love talking about it. So, feel free to chat anytime.

I would love a painting penpal. I am new to this team and have been reading through the topics and thought that this would be a good idea. I thought that if I had someone who is mad about art - we could chat and help each other out and that it might be encouraging? I absolutely love art and would love to share the subject with someone.....many thanks,
