I haven't been to Longwood in a long time. Sounds great and I know they did a big makeover. Tanks for posting this :)

Hi! Checking in with the team and saw this post. Longwood Gardens is a wonderful Chester County location. I have a membership and try to go once a month. You can do a lot of walking while enjoying the beautiful gardens.

West Chester University also has a planetarium. They have a show I think in December. It is really cool. Must rsvp. If I find the link, I will post here. Also, if anyone has kids, the Chester County Art Foundation ( I think that is what they are called) have free classes at the Exton Mall. Materials are free and they do have some classes for adults like pointelle. I will find the info and post by Monday.

As I find out more to do (b/c I am such a frugal person, i will post.

I just moved out to West Chester a couple months ago, but I found some really great, inexpensive things to do.

1.) West Chester University always does a bunch of plays and musicals that are really great. The tickets are pretty inexpensive too.

2.) There's a park in Goshen that shows movies outside in the summer. (not too helpful right now)

3.) Walking around West Chester is pretty entertaining in itself. There are a lot of really great little boutiques and shops. Also a lot of great bars if you like that sort of thing.

I know the Herr's factory gives tours. Not sure what the admission is. Not a long tour, but should be fun. How about the Crayola factory tour. It's up in Easton, not sure of the price would be including gas, but it's another cute idea. I know there are tons of parks around, maybe a picnic one day?

Hi everyone. I got 2 emails from the Phoenixville Library and thought I'd pass it along.

They are having another movie night. It's going to be Thursday, July 9 at 7:00 PM. They will show the movie “Duel” (It is rated PG and runs for 90 min.) The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. Those who stay for an informal discussion following the screening may suggest a forthcoming movie.

They are also having an "open gaming night" at the library as well. The email touts it as "fun and games for adults 18 and over". It is free and on Thursdays July 16, July 23, August 20, and August 27 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. You can choose from their selection of board games or bring your own, and you can try out their new Wii gaming system. Bring a friend or make some new ones. Light snacks will be served.

For more information, contact Mark Pinto at 610-933-3013 x32 or mpinto@ccls.org. Phoenixville Public Library is located at 183 Second Avenue in Phoenixville.

The irish festival is open ended. It usually goes until the evening, my uncle said, but didn't know an exact time. I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful!

Okay, I got an email from the Phoenixville Library about a movie night on 6/11 at 7PM. See the info that was emailed to me below:

"The next Movie Night at Phoenixville Library is Thursday, June 11 at 7:00 PM. “Cannery Row” (1982, rated PG, running time 120 min.) will be shown. Nick Nolte and Debra Winger star in this offbeat romantic comedy based on John Steinbeck’s novels Cannery Row and Sweet Thursday. In a rundown California town where the inhabitants struggle to survive and better themselves, a romance develops between a quiet marine biologist (Nolte) and a runaway (Winger) supporting herself through prostitution.

This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. Those who stay for an informal discussion following the screening may suggest a forthcoming movie. For more information, call 610-933-3013, Ext. 32. Phoenixville Public Library is located at 183 Second Avenue in Phoenixville."

This isn't a Chester County thing, but it's not a long drive. Last night, we went snow tubing at Bear Creek Mountain Resort in Macungie. We spent an hour tubing and then had a great dinner at The Grille...really nice place. It used to be Doe Mountain, but was redone a few years ago...spa, hotel, etc...worth checking out!

In the summer there are free concerts in Wilson Farm Park in Chesterbrook (great playground and walking trails too). Fun to take a picnic and experience the concert. Wide variety of performances, county, classical, 50's, jazz, etc. I don't know how to make link clickable.

Cameron will be 3 in May and Logan is 3 months. So we try to hit all the little fairs and community days. We have memberships at both Longwood and the Philadelphia Zoo. The zoo membership pays for itself in less than 2 visits.

Keep those ideas coming, I love em!

GREAT chat topic! I hope lots of people post, because I need some things to do with kids and/or hubby ... especially low cost and/or free things.

(1) Have been to Mushroom Festival twice. Not something I *have* to do every year but ... lots of food and vendors, and a place to walk around for the day. Definitely hit up the mexican ice cream place ... their ice cream is amazing. LOL.

(2) Like Longwood ... but wish it wasn't so pricey.

(3) for a "free" date night, we like to get coffee or something and walk around West Chester's main streets. I think West Chester's main areas are so pretty.

(4) Strawberry Festival in Coatesville, and the West Goshen Fair ... I love both of those. Strawberry Festival is usually the first weekend in June, and the Goshen Fair is usually around the last week in July.

(5) For the kids ... we hit all the local little fairs they have throughout the summer. Also, Logan (2-1/2) LOVES the moonbounce adventures in Kennett. It is SUPER cheap, and you can stay all day! You can even leave and come back for free in the same day if you get his/her hand stamped.

BOUNCER~ How old is Cameron?

We like Longwood too. In fact, we're members there so we go all the time. When the weather is warm it's a great place to take the kids so Cameron can run around and play in the children's garden.
We also like Rotofest in October and the West Goshen community day in September. All summer long we go to various car shows around the county. I could really use some good things to do with two little ones.
Thanks for this post Irish!

Never been to the Blob or Mushroom Frestivals, but I do love mushrooms...Blobs??, not so much! :) I'm a big Longwood Gardens fan...more for the trees than the flowers. I always take out of towners down there. My favorite part of the county to drive through is Willistown Township/Radnor Hunt area...just beautiful.
