I use a program called fitrex.com. It's great because it will create a 12 week workout program for you based on your goals and your one rep max. It tells you how many reps to do with how much weight. I love it.

Tweety, where did you find the exercises for the gym? Do you mind sharing the website with me? I go to the gym 5 days a week, and mostly use the various elliptical machines. I'd like to know how to use the various weight machines, which ones to focus on and how many reps etc. Does anyone out there know where there's a quick and user friendly guide on line for this?

I go to the gym 6 days a week for 1 hour each day using various machines. I also pace walk in the evenings for 30 minutes and today will bring it to 60 minutes by taking another route. I'm enjoying this and am starting to have success with my workouts.

I like variety in my programs. Can't do the same thing every time I go to the gym. I'd get bored silly with that. Besides my muscles wouldn't benefit from that because they would get too used to doing the same thing that they wouldn't get challenged. I came up with programs that look like this: Abs/Biceps/Chest on Mondays, Abs/Triceps/Shoulders on Wednesdays, and Abs/Legs/Back on Fridays. I do three sets of 15 reps of each muscle group. I do one set of leg exercises on Mondays and Wednesdays and 4 sets of leg exercises on Fridays. With the abs, I do one rectus ab, one oblique ab and one transverse ab exercise. With the shoulders, I do one anterior delt, one rear delt and one overall shoulder/medial delt or rotator cuff exercise. With the legs, I make sure I address the quads, hamstrings, inner and outer thighs, and calves. With the back, I make sure I address the upper, middle and lower back.
I end my program doing cardio, whether it's walking, running, biking or the elliptical or some combination thereof.

I go efter large groups of muscles being used, and how many people at the gym is the deciding factor of free weights, machines or exercises using body strength alone..
I have a job that can require meetings at short notice, so I do a complete body workout so I am not stressing to catch up on missed split deals..

I go to the gym too. But I've went on the internet and copied off exercises to do at the gym. Also this summer I did the Biggest Loser contest at the gym and I lost 5 inches. Just by doing exercises and working with weights and machines. I'm still working on it I go to the gym 5 times a week and do the same thing over and over. Wednesday I just walk on the treadmill 45 minutes. Its helping me in a lot of different ways. Before I started going to the gym my blood sugar count was 99 and now its down to 77. So its helping me in many ways. Even if I don't lose much weight yet.
I need to know how to put the weight chart like the rest have on the page. I'm new at this and just can't figure it out.

Janet

We may not be working to compete, but there is a great deal of information on sites like www.bodybuilding.com if you are looking for ideas for a fresh routine.

I do what fits my schedule and what my body will do. I have a few medical conditions that direct my body as to what exercises I can do and I know what my body will do. At this time I am doing 25 to thirty minutes of cardio. Usually on the elliptical or arc trainer. Then I stretch and go on to the ball, where I do crunches with weights. I try to do three sets of twenty but today was able to do five sets. I did 3 sets of 12 of the following: lat pull downs w/ 40lbs, Leg raises w/ 40lbs , Dumbbell rows w/12 lbs, seated dumbell press w/12lbs,calf raises with toes straight, out and turned in, tricep extention w/ 12lbs, and then stretched. Happy workout!!!! I will be back at it again tomarrow!!!

Hey!

How do you workout and set your programme? from books or other sources of information?

I have, from time to time, a review of my plan at the gym and will discuss with one of the gym instructors what I should do and what I want to do... then we go through my plan, look at technique, etc. and then I go with that... I usually have a review every 3 months or so (except lately as things have been a bit hectic).

Sometimes I will do my own thing... based on how my body feels.

I aim to do a lot of cardio as the weight training stuff usually makes me ravenous and it defeats the purpose of me losing weight. (If that makes sense to you!)

They are always saying I should do more group fitness (classes-body pump, etc)!!! Thing is, I still feel a bit awkward when I do the classes as I don't feel all that agile at the moment. I don't feel that light on my feet quite yet. I want to get a bit more weight off before I do the classes. I don't want to injure myself.

What do you do?

Take care!
