I'm with you on pie Cindi! Don't much care for it, so not an issue at holidays. I am however a recovering M&M addict (only the plain or dark chocolate ones) and it seems like everyone has them out in pretty little bowls at the holidays. If I eat even one, well let's just say its not pretty, Lol! Whole bowls have been known to be emptied in my presence!! My friends help by not having them out if I'm visiting, but not everyone knows my nasty little addiction secret. That will be my biggest challenge over the season! I'll do my best and take it one holiday gathering at a time!! Good luck to all this season whatever your eating challenges may be!

Things went well Thanksgiving. No seconds. Filled my plate using the portion plan and focusing only on foods I like. Stopped eating at 7:00 and only drank tea. I even had deserts. I don't like pie, so most deserts weren't even considered.

Today had decorating the church. They had pizza for everyone. Again, I only ate one piece, no seconds. I think that will be a important strategy to add to my strategies.

Exercise is going well but I have to remind myself that the weight didn't go on in a month and it CERTAINLY is not coming off in a month but I am doing good things for my body by exercising.

I am focusing on the exercise and trying to keep meals healthy.

Here's to a HAPPY HEALTHY HOLIDAY SEASON!

I am planning to follow the plate system of portion control. And avoiding nighttime eating. Night time is when I lose control because of HALT (hungry, angry, lonely or tired).

Tonight was at a music concert at a nearby college. Heard someone saying that the tradition for them was after the concert, they would go out to eat. I did eat some M&Ms afterwards. Some habits die hard.

Cindi- I am dreading this holiday a bit too. Are you planning what you will eat? Maybe if you plan for the late night eating rather than trying to fight it, it might help.
I am also just trying to relax about things a bit more, because I tend to stress eat so stressing about eating - where is that going to end up?!

I'm trying to apply some of the principles in Denise Austins's book Side Effect Skinny. One I struggle with is night time eating. I hope it helps to have a time to stop the eating. I tend to eat myself sick on holidays. And I think the biggest problem is the late eating.

I am struggling so much to organize food goals that I'm just not there yet with exercise goals of any sort, other than the random kind.

I think that sticker idea is fabulous though- I'm going to remember that. I DO have a goal to go for a walk on Thanksgiving in the park, but I'm going to have to plan things carefully to make that work!

As the weather gets colder, I tend to slack on exercise. It's way too easy to get off work, put on comfy clothes and stay inside, especially when the 'feels like' temp is below 20. And I've never been one that does good with exercise videos. This is something I'm going to have to work really hard on over the next few months. I like the idea of setting a goal and having a reward to look forward to if I meet that goal.

Eliminate excuses and avoid procrastination! Just Do It!

Blessings to you all,
Kim

I've renewed commitment to exercise. Put up a special exercise calendar in my kitchen and bought some stickers - one sticker equals 15 minutes of exercise. My goal is 18 stickers a month which is 45 minutes a day with one day off. The calendar is on the fridge so that when I'm looking for something to nibble on I'm forced to see how things are going on the exercise front. Sometimes I see that I'm not on track and hit the treadmill instead of the cheese and crackers.

The hard thing for me is Christmas cookies. I have been baking them with my kids since they were very young. My daughter is in college and is reminding me to have supplies ready for when she's home for Thanksgiving. I'm hoping to send some back to school with her, freeze some, and give some to my son to hide where I can't see them all the time. And maybe to make a batch of Mini Mocha Meringues for me - no more than one a day.

How are you doing? I've been in a workout slump but getting back on track. Reading a new book by Denise Austin, "Side Effect Skinny." Helping me with tweaking my lifestyle and exercise. Hope it helps with the holidays coming. How about you?
