Hope everyone had a nice holiday. We went to my husband's family. Both my kids were home and so we had a fun road trip together. But, now to get back into routines. I'm so off track with my diet and exercise!!

hi everyone,

and HAPPY Saturday, yeh!!!!!!!!!!!!! emoticon

Glad we made it thru the holiday emoticon

it is Saturday and I am sleepy.... why? because I watched a YouTube video on how to remove makeup and make ones eyebrows and lashes grow longer at the same time... how? by using coconut oil to remove make up which also moisturizes the eyebrows and lashes.

problem: putting oil on my eyes or eye area = makes me soooo immediately sleepy. emoticon emoticon

so clearly I can NO longer put any oil on my eye lids or eye area, JUST my eyebrows LOL

Been busy with work and other things. I haven't done much for Christmas, but my shopping is mostly done. No baking, so far. Thinking I won't be baking much at all. Maybe a batch or two of my sons favorite cookie. My mantra is keep it simple! Kind of nice to enjoy the holidays, but so far I haven't gotten lost in the holidays, which is nice.

hi everyone emoticon

want to hear something funny? I got myself a hand stand mixer JUST IN CASE I cook anytime soon lolllllllllllllllllllll what do I care? it was on SALE lol

too funny.

All is well here.... I joined a website for singles and met someone online (not in person) and JUST to be on the safe side, I created another screen name and sure enough he made a pass at me on my NEW screen name, NOT knowing it was me... long story short = he denied ever meeting anyone online on the website and was NOT talking to anyone.

aint that some crap? emoticon

Needless to say I wont be chatting with HIM anymore.

why go online to meet someone? Because it is 2014 :)

LEILA, you had me cracking up laughing about wanting men to one day put some thought into gifts for women.... child please do NOT hold your breath..... lol

even my son, age 34 does NOT buy gifts, with the explanation that he does NOT know what to buy for his mother much less anyone else. shakes my head.

he gives me money instead and I buy my own gift... sad but true.

at least we got gifts yeh!!! emoticon you know me... ANY excuse to go shopping lol

Leilawks: I hope you find the comfort you need this holiday season.

I'm limiting the presents this year. Four presents. Usually, we buy the kids what they need when they need it. Also, we are wanting to be in a better place financially and so, we are limiting things. I like to focus on holiday memories and experiences more than presents.

Not baking much so far. Keeping the decorating simple. Trying for a simple holiday and a simple New Year.

Hello Everyone,

Another exciting day in the neighborhood. . . . emoticon

I want given a ton of zucchini so think I will bake some bread. Or could freeze some too. I had better make sure I eat well before I start. I like to replace the oil with applesauce and sugar with sweetener to reduce calories. Even still, it is not on my Low carb eating plan.

I am getting a Kitchen Aid stand mixer for Christmas. I purchased it online with Black Friday sales and 2 coupons so got it really cheap. Hubby handed me his credit card so that is his gift to me. He even wants to me wrap it!! I gave up years ago wishing that he would put some thought into buying me a gift. I might just whip that baby out and use it for my baking adventure. That would be fun!

How is everyone doing on their Christmas shopping? I have one more grandgirl gift to buy then I am done. Yippee! I shopped a lot online so still waiting for the arrival of the gifts. Started wrapping today. The holidays are a real tough time for me and had to stop with wrapping to have myself a little cry. Will work on more tomorrow. Maybe I will invite a girlfriend over and make a little party out of it.

Last week I only lost 1 pound. ( I know, I know, celebrate the pound. . .) Anyway, I set a very high goal for me to lose 3 lbs this week, which ends on Thursday. I hit the gym today and even survived a bootcamp class! Granted, I had to modify several exercises. Tonight I am kicking back with my ibuprofen.
What type of exercise is everyone doing?

Have an Awesome day!

Good to see you again.

Just got our tree decorated and other Christmas decorations up. We purposely have not put up everything. We don't have enough room here for a lot of things. We decided that we like the tree less crowded.

Otherwise, I think my diet is going well. Not baking. Maybe right before Christmas to have things for the family, but otherwise, not baking. Keeping everything simple.

Hi Everyone!

Lots of conversation since the last time I was here. I like it!

Thanksgivings was different this year for us. For the past 10+ years, we had always volunteered to feed the needy and homeless in the community with our church. This year, we changed churches so felt kind of lost all day. Going to need to find a new volunteer opportunity.

Just got our tree decorated today. 5 yr grandgirl, Andrea, helped me. Took her with us to watch the Palm Springs Christmas light parade. We took our jackets, thinking the evening would be cool. Not! It was 70 degrees! Seriously?!?! That was not even right- need a chill in the air to truly be Christmas time.

Food wise been struggling. Gave myself permission to have a cheat day on Thanksgiving. emoticon Struggled for a week with getting my eating under control. Now, I am under control except in social settings, especially sweets. So ironic as I am losing weight on a low carb plan.

Still making progress on the scales. I have lost 30 lbs since July for a grand total of 50 lbs lost. 70 more to go. Www,dietbet.com is a great motivator for me

Have an awesome day.

We're going to get the Christmas Tree this weekend. We will be dragging out all the ornaments and lights for the occasion. I will use the Hot Chocolate recipe that was the Recipe of the Day today to use during this holiday season. We will have hot chocolate, egg nog and clam chowder while we decorate the tree. I hope that you all are having a wonderful holiday season so far. Deb

I have life insurance through my work and policies from other work situations. I don't really know much about the subject, but I'm wondering if you should call an independent insurance agent to talk about life insurance. They are suppose to know what it's all about and can advise. Being independent means they aren't working for any one company.

emoticon I don't know how many of you have life insurance.... but

I am 58 years Young and I don't have life insurance.... true.

I researched prices and the OLDER you are, the MORE you will pay.... aint that something?

shakes my head.

I am still looking

did you know I can get insurance on my 34 yr old son for $100,000 for ONLY $34 dollars per month and life insurance for me at age 58 for only $50,000 will be $60 per month and then for $10 more per month they will add on Accidental insurance...

what is that? I thought dead was dead no matter how you went.... now its labeled accidental insurance... then why buy life insurance? lol

so confusing.

and no I do not want to call any life insurance company cause they will talk too long and try to real me in... would rather research a policy online

bottom line: I have to get life insurance BEFORE age 60 cause then I may as well give up half my paycheck LOL

your thoughts?

Well, my plans were only partially successful. But I have been getting back on plan this weekend, did my planning, shopping and some cooking for the week. Now I know it's any social occasion that is my weak point! Good work Cindi! I made turkey and black bean enchiladas with the leftovers. I'm always reminded how easy it is to cook a turkey - and how many leftovers- , should do it more often!

We only made a ham for Thanksgiving and now I have a 20 pound turkey left to cook and strip the meat off of, then freeze for holiday meals. We downsized our holiday foods, so that we only ate the essentials, some sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, stuffing corn muffins and ham. The mashed potatoes were rosemary/garlic so they didn't need gravy and we didn't make any. My daughter did the Thanksgiving shopping, which is how we got the turkey. She didn't realize that we would have no need for it with the ham. I will have plenty of turkey leftovers to make traditional foods like turkey pot pies and casseroles.

I survived Thanksgiving. I made Thanksgiving my splurge meal/day. I used the plate method of portion control. You fill your plate, 1/2 with veggies, 1/4 with protein, 1/4 with starch/carb. I used that as a rough guide to picking my foods. I didn't go back for seconds. I only ate what I liked. Then at 7:00 I stopped eating. Drank lots of iced tea both Thanksgiving night and Friday. Saturday morning I got on the scale and my weight is the same as it was Thursday morning. Friday morning had some extra pounds, but they were gone by Saturday.

I enjoyed the day. Still too much focus on the food, but its always so good. Tonight we had some leftovers for supper. How did you do on Thanksgiving? I am going to do something similar for Christmas. I'm not baking until just before Christmas and I'm limiting it to what my kids will like.

This is our first year with such uncertainty, but we will adjust. Isn't that a theme this part of our lives. Adjusting. This year I'm not that interested in the food or cooking. Christmas we are going to my in-laws and we'll have lasagna and salad for Christmas dinner. I'm kind of glad I don't have to worry about a meal on Thanksgiving. We'll enjoy the family and then move on. Less food. Why is it that we get so obsessed by food this time of year. There is an article I read today about the best and worst states for Thanksgiving. Food poisoning, arguments about food allergies or preferences, football teams that lose, and binge drinking were what was tracked. It's surprising how those things affect the holidays. Why can't we just enjoy the day with family? I would also add to the list binge eating that makes us miserable.

I made a decision to focus more on people, and less on food, for Thanksgiving. It's only going to be my daughter and me, and I've been texting her about making some different choices as to the menu this year to get keep me more on track. This part feels very stressful. Since I've just started working on my diet, it all feels fragile.
My daughter will be home for college too, its her freshman year. She is coming Tuesday night, and then she has to leave to go to her Dad's on Friday. Wednesday we have a holiday lunch with dear friends. Her boyfriend will come over Wednesday and we'll all cook together (I'm still getting used to him). Planning, planning, planning.
Sounds like there are some similar themes here! I feel for those of you that have family members working, or traveling and not able to all be together.

Sharon: Sounds like you have the holidays figured out. Mine not so much. My one college son's birthday is Sunday. We will go to celebrate with him. My younger son who is in college will come home Sunday for Fall break. He only gets a few days because he works the football games catering meals in the press boxes. Thanksgiving I will be driving him back across the state to work on Friday. We'll have dinner at my brother's daughter's house on our way. Then my son have to spend the rest of his break back at college. He hasn't been home for a couple of months and except for seeing him a few hours when I was there for continuing education last week, I haven't really had him around for a few months. My husband who is a chaplain has on-call Thanksgiving weekend, and my older son is working Thanksgiving. I knew these days were coming, but it's a shock when you realize that nothing is going to work for everyone to be together. Christmas we are traveling to visit my husband's parents and get together with his sister and family.

This is definitely a different time in the life of our family. Everyone tells me it's fairly typical to be so scattered.

We are having a really quiet Thanksgiving at home just my daughter, my grandson and myself. We will roast the traditional turkey, but are not overdoing the meal with tons of side dishes and desserts. It will just be the basics. Wishing you all a happy holiday! emoticon emoticon

What are your plans for: Thanksgivng emoticon and Xmas? emoticon **

Thanksgiving plans =

* I plan to go to Walmart on Thanksgiving Day

and stand IN line @ 4pm for the 6pm Black Friday sale that begins at 6pm.

WHY?

For a 50-inch Emerson Television that is on sale for $218.00 emoticon

The only Christmas music I like early is Mannheim Steamroller. Some years I'll pull it out shortly after Halloween. But, that is different. I want to focus on the last days of Fall. I hated pulling out my parka tonight because of the storm going through and the cold temperatures. Not ready for this! What I've really hated is walking into Hobby Lobby in May and seeing Christmas decorations. A reason to stay away!

I think that it is absolutely crazy that there have been Christmas themed shows already on the television. I would love to get through Remembrance day before being bombarded with Christmas. I think it simply shows how much Christmas has become commercialized and consumerized. (is that a word?) For those who celebrate the religious side of Christmas or for those who celebrate the family/togetherness of Christmas, I think it is time to slow down, buy less, and love more.

Anything is possible--except skiing through a revolving door.

What do you think of Christmas things this early? Is there anything you enjoy early in the season.

The local Fred Meyer (Kroger) store already has it's snow flakes in the windows and the Christmas lights and trees up in their stores.

I think we are in the holiday season. I just saw my first Christmas movie while working out on the elliptical. My husband was horrified, but I enjoyed it.
