Well as of this morning I am down 11 pounds since August 16th (the first day of the rest of my life!)...and that means that instead of needing to lose over 100 pounds, I now only need to lose 97 pounds. Yay me!!! :) So...as it stands right now, I need to lose 89 pounds by August 16, 2011, in order to reach my 100-pounds-in-1-year weight-loss goal! I CAN DO IT!!! :)

We need to make every day, every choice count. If we're going to reach our goals, then we're going to need to sacrifice some things, and we're going to need to pass on some things, and we're going to need to push ourselves...especially during those times we don't think it's possible for us to go any further or try any harder. If we put forth our BEST effort then we WILL reach our goals!! LET'S DO IT!!!! :)

I stalled for the whole month of July, and currently I am just creeping along down the scale...but the inches are shrinking.

I encourage you to do a search on Sparks for "plateau." You'll find several intersting articles explaining it and advice to break thru. Change being the biggest advice. Change your exercise routines, rotate calories eating a little more than your upper limits one day, then on your lower limits the next.

Even though the scale doesn't move, as long as you are eating right and exercising--things are changing...for the better!

Congratulations Taffin2000! We have a similar start state and I have lost close to 60 pounds, but I've been stalled for over a month now. Just trying to keep pushing onward. If this plateau continues I may not make it by the one year mark, but I will get there soon after. And not a moment too soon.

Today is my start day. I have a family reunion next July and I don't want to be the fattest one there. Today I am going to take one meal at a time, one bottle of water at at time and 10 mins of walking at a time.

I am going to lose at least 100 lbs in 1 year! Today is day one so I don't have a lot to show so far BUT I have stuck to my food plan and I've put in 50 minutes in exercise so far today so I'm off to a good start.

Good luck to everyone! I'm sure that I will be looking to all of you for inspiration and motivation and hopefully I will be an inspiration to ya'll.

I'm definitely planning on it. actually 200 pounds in 2 years is my goal. I lost a total of 17 pounds since july 23 so that leaves me with 83 pounds to lose by July 23, 2011 to stay on track.

I am planning on losing 100+ pounds. But I haven't made a contract with myself yet. That's an excellent idea...but right now i think the right approach for me is to go for 24 hours at a time meeting my mini goals: walking, eating right, replacing alcohol with something else that is better for me.

I know what your mean Horsified1 when you say the first 50 came off easily, then it became a struggle. And it is easy to stay motivated when the weight is melting away. It is harder to stay on track when the scale is stuck and the positive reinforcement of weight loss is fewer and farther between. I try to take pride in my consistency and not be disappointed that the weight loss is slowing. I obviously know what it takes to lose weight, I just have to keep doing the things that I know work until the scale starts moving again. Good luck, all.

I think I am finally back on track!! And this should be the 12 months that I do it.

I managed a 2 pound loss in July - ok that won't get me there, but it was the first loss in some time, and then managed to do another 2 pounds this past 2 weeks - which doesn't sound like much until you know I actually managed to lsoe the 2 pounds while I was on vacation - instead of coming back from vacation a couple of pounds heavier

So I am thrilled

So now that we are back and able to plan meals and work out I am sure it will happen

I am planning on it for sure. I am down 61 pounds already since February 1. Have another 39 to lose to hit my 100. Hoping to do this by Christmas. Will see. Want to be at my goal weight of 160 by the end of March 2011, which would actually put me down a total of 125 pounds. The first 50 or so pounds came off fairly easily, but the last 10 or so I have really had to struggle to lose. Hoping it is just a little glitch and things will pick back up. Good luck to everyone. You can do it. I have an underactive thyroid working against me, so if I can do it, anybody can.

And, I finally broke down and bought new shorts yesterday. I have been trying to just get by all summer with what I had even though they were big, but they were getting big to the point of falling down. I BOUGHT REGULAR SIZE SHORT-NO MORE PLUS SIZES!!!! I HAVE GONE FROM A 24W TO A REGULAR SIZE 18.

I know that with determination and confidence in myself I can totally loose 100+ lbs in one year! I have to! I am no longer doing it to look good in a particular fashion outfit (although it would be nice to look HOT while I'm still in my 20s). I'm loosing weight to get healthy, to start a family, to feel confident and better my self-esteem and self-worth because right now I think very little of myself. I am worth it though. I know this journey is difficult, but I know I am worth it.

My goals are as follows:

-Get a good night's sleep which means going to sleep earlier in the morning.
-WALK! that's all. Just walk. I'm going to stop stressing about trying fancy workout classes and stressing to get every penny out of my gym membership (even though I havent really been to the gym this month at all). I'm gonna focus on my nutrition and just walk. Walk those pounds away. At least for now.
-Focus on my nutrition. Eat MORE veggies, some fruits. Keep hydrated with plenty of water. Eat healthy, organic whenever possible, cut out as much processed food as possible.
-Focus on the positive and try to view the negative with optimism. I'm a complete panicked worry-freak. I mean absolutely the most paranoid person. It's like I dont know who I am anymore because I dont recognize myself. I wasnt like this before. I started being like this when they told me I had Diabetes and PCOS and they had to do a D&C because my uterus lining was very thick. Around that same time, my sister in law found out and told us her sister had breast cancer and since then all those traumas in a couple of week's timespan just completely scared the heck out of me. Then about a year later my husband had to leave the country while his immigration case was decided and we lived in absolute limbo for 2 months not knowing if he was ever gonna be let back into the country, if I would have to move out to Mexico, what on earth was going to happen to us. So those traumas changed me from an independent, somewhat control freak wanting to do everything my way or on my own to this person that I do not know at all who's afraid to be left alone, who has a panic attack everytime she hears the word cancer or any other illness for that matter. Who has to change the channel when commercials for medication come on or ads for fundraisers that have anything to do with illnesses because I become completely anxious thinking I have them too. Its horrible, this feeling. I dont want to be this person anymore. I'm not this person. I dont know who this is and until I can loose weight and somewhat shake off this feeling and get some confidence back I dont think I will be myself again.

OK, so I went off of one of my goals into a rant, but I feel good now that it's out a little. I went to therapy for 6 months and couldnt express what I just expressed to my therapist for fear of her reaction. oh wow! OK, well bye-bye 100 lbs.... you'll be gone soon!

Having a goal of losing 100 lbs is definitely overwhelming if you don't have shorter term goals. This is my second 100 so for me, I know I can do it. This time I plan on doing it faster. My shorter term goal is to be under 200 by my 25th anniversary in December. I'm incredibly excited about this goal and I'm positive I'll be there before then. Once I reach that milestone, I know I will get where ever I want to be!

Smaller goals are a must on the way to a larger goal!

It can be done!

What a great post about all the reasons to get this stuff off our bodies. I just joined this challenge about a week ago so I have a whole year to finish this. I am already 7.2 pounds into the challenge. I want to lose 100 pounds this next year to make up for slacking up the past couple of months.

...pounds in a year? I am!! And my PLAN is all laid out in this contract I made with myself a couple weeks ago. I made short-term goal #1 a week early, and am not feeling very confident that I'll reach short-term goal #2 tomorrow (4th of july weekend over indulgence, combined with starting to exercise this week, and getting ready for Aunt Flo's visit), but who knows, it could happen!! :)

Anyway, here's my contract:

I am motivated to make long-term lifestyle changes that require eating healthy foods and exercising more. I will no longer sacrifice my own needs to make other people happy, or do for them what they can and should be doing for themselves. When there is a conflict between my exercise and eating plans and what other people want me to do, I will negotiate to find a reasonable solution.

I choose to be in charge of my own decisions and behavior. I will not talk, think, or act as if my partner, child, friend, cravings or subconscious made me do it. I will ask myself what’s most important to me at that moment and make my decision. If I don’t like the consequences, I will try something different the next time.

I realize that I get frustrated easily with diets and weight-loss programs, and that I let this frustration defeat my efforts. I also realize that there are serious health risks that are associated with being overweight. I’m fully willing to change my lifestyle so that I can improve my health and well-being.

I will not let one small slip-up convince me that I'm stupid, worthless, or a lost cause. I will respect myself by refusing to engage in verbal self-abuse, and I will find positive ways to comfort and support myself when I’m having a hard time. Specifically, I will pray when I feel overwhelmed. I will review this contract as a means to gain strength and re-ignite the fire within me. I will seek the help of friends

I acknowledge that I will feel better when I’m more active and I weigh less, and therefore I hereby agree and commit to take the following steps to improve my accountability to myself and increase my chances for weight loss success:

I have addressed the distractions in my life that could affect my commitment to a weight-loss program.
- I have asked for help from my family so that I can have time to workout after work.
- I will let go of the things I cannot control and trust God to take care of them.

I have accepted that there are no quick fixes and that it’s best to lose weight at a moderate, steady pace.
- I will weigh myself each Friday morning, and will work to lose 6 to 10 pounds a month.
- I understand that my rate of loss will slow down as I get closer to my goal; that as a female, I have times during the month that, despite my best efforts, my weight will show an increase; that working out hard results in water-weight gain due to muscle repair, therefore I will not let the numbers on the scale wreak havoc on my psyche.

I am ready to change my eating habits.
- I will focus on eating organic, clean foods as much as possible.
- I will drink 64 ounces of water and eat at least 4 servings of fruit and vegetables daily.
- I will eat protein with each meal/snack, whenever possible.
- I will prepare and serve one meatless meal each week.
- I will try 2 new recipes each month.
- I will pack my lunch at least 4 times a week.
- I will choose wisely when dining out, realizing that going out to eat is not a license to eat whatever I want, just for the sake of eating whatever I want.
- I will remember that not every event involving food is “special,” therefore it does not require me to make an exception to my eating-well lifestyle. There are tons of birthdays, holidays, gatherings, parties, etc., throughout the year and each one does not warrant a “cheat” day.
- I will remember that I can eat anything I want, in moderation. No food is forbidden. All food can be used as fuel. Food is my friend, not my enemy.

I am motivated to get more physically active.
- I will do 3 weight-training circuit workouts each week.
- I will take the kids and/or dogs on at least one walk each week, and I will take the kids on at least one bike ride each week, and if weather’s an issue, then we’ll turn on some music & dance instead!
- I will actively play with my kids whenever possible, embracing the trampoline, swimming pool, hula hoop, kickball and badminton set.

I am realistic about my weight-loss goals.
- Short-term goal #1 – lose 5 pounds as of July 2nd.
- Short-term goal #2 – lose 10 pounds as of July 16th.
- Short-term goal #3 – lose 25 pounds as of September 10th.
- Short-term goal #4 – lose 40 pounds as of October 29th.
- Short-term goal #5 – lose 50 pounds as of December 3rd.
- Long-term weight-loss goal – weigh 155 as of July 1, 2011.
- I will reassess my goals on a regular basis and make adjustments as necessary.
- As a special treat, I will put $5 into my “You Freakin’ Rock!” fund for each 5-pound loss I have, and use that money whenever I desire throughout my weight-loss journey…for anything that helps make me feel special, such as nail polish, make-up, jewelry, a CD, a workout video or clothing.

I have a system of support to help me achieve my goals.
- I will lean on my supportive friends whenever necessary.
- I will visit “sparkpeople.com” as often as possible, using it to blog, keep track of my food intake and workouts, to give and get support, to educate myself and to find recipes and motivation.

I have the time to keep records of my food intake and my physical activity.
- I will commit to journaling what I eat and the activities I partake in.
- I will measure my food, whenever possible, realizing that eye-balling is not an accurate way to judge just how much I’ve actually eaten.

I have learned from my past about what motivates me.
- I am motivated by praise, my growing muscles and physical stamina, the reflection I see in the mirror, how I look in my clothing, and how my successes motivate others.
- I will celebrate each success I have and rejoice in the steps I take each day that will bring me closer to my weight-loss and fitness goals.

I acknowledge that every pound I lose will…

- Improve my energy
- Improve my sleep
- Improve my breathing
- Lower my cholesterol
- Reduce my blood pressure
- Reduce aches and pains
- Decrease my risk of a heart attack
- Decrease my risk of a stroke
- Help prevent Type 2 Diabetes
- Increase my life expectancy
- Improve my physical appearance
- Improve my physique
- Increase my confidence
- Allow my clothing to fit better
- Brighten my spirit
- Strengthen my resolve
- Help create a healthier, happier me
- Increase my joy

I look forward to feeling good about myself again...to walking past a mirror and smiling at who is looking back at me...to shopping for clothes at any store I want, and having them fit well and look good on me...to feeling confident again and making eye contact with strangers again...to being active with my kids again...to taking them to the beach...to taking them to an amusement park and not being afraid of the fact that I won't be able to fit on the rides...to paying ball with them…to being fit and running again...to participate in sporting events again, like races and triathlons...to playing on my old sand volleyball league and being able to move around and not feel as though everyone is looking at me because I'm the biggest person playing...to becoming flexible again...to being athletic again...
