April, thanks for the update. You're doing well just to hang on right now. Take care of yourself and your hubby and we'll be here when you get a moment to breath.

Praying for you both to give you courage and strength.
I am not well today. Didn't sleep last night. I think I have food poisoning
and so I'm just staying close to the loo. The stomach pain is unbearable.

Checking in briefly. Still taking hubby to radiation therapy M-F and to radiation oncologist and chemo oncologist and chemo as needed. Shingles on him are a little better but he has a new skin condition yet diagnosed. He urinates a lot and has some discomfort and is tired. So I do everything and am doing okay with it most days. Will catch up when I can.

Melbourne has finally lifted some of its lockdown rules after 129 days.
Their Premier wasn't taking any chances as this was the second wave .
People were going crazy down there, so there'll be some relief now.

I just went over my last blood tests and saw there was a note to check
Kidney.org.au as I saw that my eGFR was low and when I checked, I am
in the middle of getting kidney disease and that freaked me out. I have
to do some more research.

Anna, yes I think your particular place is the envy of everyone!! I'm do sick of masks and sanitizer and everything else!! My hands are basically raw! I just want to go about life. I feel like at some point I'm going to catch it and I might as well just take immune supplements and get prepared!

I saw a post on Instagram that the WHO is now saying that we shouldn't be locking down to contain the virus!! But they're the ones that told us to do so!! SMH. And it didn't have any alternative in what I saw.

Thanks Cindy. We are the envy of Australia. When the border
was opened to some parts of northern NSW, 400,000 people
came over to our side. That's why Premier is hesitant to fully open
because we are going to get inundated and not everyone down south
is doing the right thing. I think this will be the new norm to live with
social distancing and washing of hands. Choice magazine did an expose
on hand sanitisers and in order to be effective, they must contain at least
70% alcohol. The majority had everything else but. Just check the labels.

I went to visit my sister , then went to book club about 5 streets over from me.
We discussed Dickens, then played a game of German rummy. Great fun.

Have a good weekend everyone.

We have no active cases in Queensland, yay. We've been so lucky
in this state. We have State elections on the 31st and we can start
pre polling next Monday. Our Premier has done such a good job with
the handling of the virus. I am pretty sure she will get back in again.
The Prime Minister came up to QLD to support the opposition leader.
the Liberals are giving their preferences to the Greens. We shall see.
This will be the first time it will be a 4 year term. It has been for 3 years.

I finally sent my Power of Attorney to Greece by Courier at a cost of $87.
The Post Office told me it would take 25 days and only standard. I would
not be able to send it express or register it. Regular mail would take from
3 to 4 months.

Shirley I hope Sam gets a job soon. Talking of cards, we have our book
club tomorrow and after the discussion, we play cards. i love it.
Glad you have left the cottage ready for winter. Spring will be back before
you know it.

Cindy, that was great that you did a lot of prep and cooking. Makes it easier
when you work.

Yeah, I get sick of apples very quickly and I'm a tart person so I like Macintosh and Granny Smith. They gave us Fuji. I basically buy one bag from the farm market when they FIRST come in season and I really like those! So fresh! After that, no. I eat them basically when there's nothing good in the store that I like better. And actually I use a lot of frozen fruit when things go out of season.

Hope Sam gets a job! We still have things open here. But I'm sure that will change again. Sigh.

The cottage closure went really well. All indoor dining in Ottawa has been stopped so my poor daughter lost her second job due to the virus. She got a call for a job interview tomorrow. Not the job we were hoping for, but anything that pays the rent and puts food on the table is a blessing right now. I hope that she gets it she's so much happier working and being productive.

Cassie is out sassing the coyotes, both cats are in so all is right and back to normal in the world of pets.

Cindy, you really did well with your food meal prep. For apples we love apple crisp, or even apple sauce to go with pork. There's lots of things to do to apples that aren't a whole lot of work. That said, I love raw apples, hubby likes cooked. We never fight over food because we don't like the same things. emoticon

Anna, you've been busy!!

Shirley, glad you got the cottage taken care of for the winter.

We went to a wedding Saturday, which I might not have done but it was outside and there weren't that many people. I would guess 30 tops...then today I went to happy hour/dinner with co workers and ate inside a restaurant for the first time since Covid. There was nobody around us and the booths had those high dividers anyway if there were.

Did my food prep for the week and some stuff to use up things I was given. Work gave us bags with things to make s chicken dinner, but it was stuff I don't use much or already had. So I needed to use potatoes and carrots up before they went bad. I made carrot soup, lentil soup, and 3 casseroles. Still have half a bag of potatoes but they look OK and I put them in the fridge. Now to figure out what I want to do with a bag of apples I don't prefer to eat...

Back to work tomorrow, ugh. But at least my food prep is done for the week!

Today was a good day at the cottage. I got the bedroom ready for winter and all the kitchen shelves. John and Sam put in the extra pole to support the snow load on our roof. Sam and I played cards, and I even won a game for a change! lol All we need to do tomorrow is empty the refrigerator, pull the water, load the car and head home for the winter. Although everything is going good I am sad as I always am to close up the cottage for another year. However, spring will be here before I know it and we'll be back.

I had a lovey surprise when a cousin called and asked if I wanted
to go for a drive. We went to the beach and I tried to walk on that
heavy sand, but couldn't do it. My back almost seized up and I slowly
made my way back to the park area to wait while my cuz finished
her walk.

I freeze milk and it really saves me having to run to the store.

A great day today. Went to do Tai Chi in the park. Love the breathing
exercises. Very calming for the soul.

In the afternoon, U3A organised for us to attend a performance of
Romeo and Juliet at the local library. It was fabulous. It is a new company
formed last year and featured children aged from 12 to 17. Some of them
really stood out and I am sure they will succeed in the future.

Have a great Thanksgiving Shirley.

For a lighter salad dressing, I usr Greek yoghurt, mustard, oregano,
olive oil and lemon juice. Oh yes, a little salt and pepper.
I just put it all in a jar and shake it well. I sometimes put a whole peeled
garlic clove to just sit there for flavour.

We are very lucky here when I read about how the rest of the world is
spiralling in a new wave. I hope that by now our daily tracing and all
the precautions is like a second nature and we will keep up the good work.

Happy Thanksgiving to my Canadian friends.

Anna, your state is amazing!! I wish our government had taken such swift action!! We wouldn't be in the mess we're in!

Shirley, so do you just not eat fresh vegetables then? That's mostly what I was asking. I use coconut milk for creamer and we do use a lot of sour cream as I make all homemade salad dressing based on sour cream and mayo. But I could check the dates on the sour cream and cheese lasts a long time...

We are the lucky State. We have not had any new cases for 28 days.
My Ultrasound Volunteering has opened up again and I am going
tomorrow, It will be looking for the veins in my legs. I have some
circulation problems, so hopefully they can find out why.

I registered for home help today and will get physio for 1 hour sessions
and it will cost from $18 to $20 so I'm pleased about that.

April, I'm glad that Benny is getting treatment, but you need to take care of you as well. You know how much I love your posts, but I can't truly fathom what you're going through so take the time you need. We'll be here.

Cindy, if I run out of something I do without for as long as we can manage. We have cans of evaporated milk for hubby's coffee and skim milk powder. Generally we run out of dog food first. We get our dog food from Walmart, so next time we need it I'll try grocery pick up which seems safer than going into the store.

Anna, it's not just grocery shopping. We don't want to leave home while the COVID rates are rising so much here. You are out and about at least once every day but I believe that your rates are not rising as much as ours. We are not even supposed to see family (except in our own household) for Thanksgiving - that's how bad it's getting here.

Today was an okay food day. No exercise, so I am really feeling my size. I probably won't sleep well tonight either. Them's the breaks.

Anna, the season change plus changing shifts again I think are both contributing. I have to get up significantly earlier now, and I had gotten used to staying up late and sleeping in. I was still staying up late and lacking sleep. I didn't sleep at all one night! So I am not going to take any overnight shifts anymore and will try to figure out coverage ahead of time when we need someone to stay late. I am taking Emergen-C Plus again to help with my immune system.

April, I am glad the treatments are happening but I feel for you
having to spend so much time in the truck. As Cindy says, hang
in there! How is Benny coping with it all.? Hope he is doing well.

Cindy, is it the new shifts that are tiring you? If you don't feel well,
I agree that rest is the best for you. Change of seasons too.

Shirley, I am on my own, and I don't need a lot. I go once a week.

DS came for lunch today. I made an apple coffee cake from Spark
recipes but it was vey dry. Tasty though. I will see him again next
Tuesday and we will go to Brisbane together to visit family.

Stay safe everyone.

Today was a good day. I did a lot more steps yesterday than I'm used to and I'm not having that much more trouble walking today. I think that the hot tub really helps. I don't go in it completely like John, but I do soak my ankles and it really seems to help. Food was on track today and I stayed in my calorie range. Now I just have to keep it up for the rest of my life! lol

Anna, Costco is bulk. A lot of things are cheaper there, other things are cheaper when you buy them on sale elsewhere. We don't really care because we want to go to one store, sort of "one and done". We want to buy bulk because we don't want to be leaving the house for any reason every single week. For you it's different because you aren't staying home as such, you're out and about every day. We just want to hide out at home until it's safe. Different strokes for different folks. Mind you, we never really liked leaving home anyway, but I do miss having people over for dinner.

Cindy, if you feel like you could be coming down with something then rest is the best thing. Sorry that your back is hurting you.

I need to get some more steps in before bed if I can manage. My left ankle isn't co-operating at all!

We are almost back to normal. Queensland has just opened
the border to some of theNew South Wales people.
It is a long weekend here and about 400 thousand are expected
to come to our state as they won't have to quarantine. It is still
school holidays for NSW but our kids go back next week.
Melbourne is still on stage 3 lockdown as there have been up to
30 or 40 deaths for a while, mainly in nursing homes. Since the
private companies took over most of them, they don't care too much
for the patients and more for profit. The government run ones are fine.

It will be good if Sam can come visit you Shirley. I thought Costco was
cheap. There are only 2 in our state and nowhere near where I live.
I am not sure whether I would get anything as I live on my own.

Hey April, has Benny started his treatment yet? I sure hope so.
Hope you are both safe and keeping well.

of Trump. I wish him well, but I hope that he takes Covid seriously after this.

Today we drove into the city to take Sam back to her apartment. If she gets time off next week she may come back out. We saw that Coldfx was on sale at Costco so we stopped on the way in to get some. I read in the car while Sam and her dad went in to pick up a few items. Only four items, but boy they are expensive!

Cindy, workers in homes here wear medical grade masks so I guess it does make a difference for them to wear them.

Anna, it sounds like your life is completely back to normal. I do think that the virus is not as bad as it when it first appeared. Although the number of cases is skyrocketing there are far fewer hospitalisations and very few deaths. John thinks it will eventually just turn into another flu.

Well, my book is calling. It is a good one. Hope that everyone has a good night.

Em, great photo. Love it.

I had a great day today. Went to the Dental Clinic. Dentist told me I had lovely teeth.
She was pleased that I work hard to keep my teeth clean and
also said my gums were healthy. Recall in 6 months again.

In the afternoon 5 of us got together for our book club. We discussed
Shakespeare. I talked about The Merchant of Venice and read out
Portia's speech "The Quality of Mercy is not strained..." I did that in my

Shirley technically we're supposed to I think but it makes no sense because we're not wearing the medical grade masks anyway and we have to be able to take them off to eat and drink and such. So really it's kind of pointless. But if we have them on when someone is near us then at least we won't spit on them! That's about all it's going to do.

Anna, glad that your test came back negative. I have two nice masks. I really don't mind wearing them if it helps make things safer. Nice that your DS will have a weekly lunch with you.

Cindy, don't you always have to wear masks in the home? People do here because the germs stay in a room for a while so another person could be exposed even after you leave the room. I think that our rules are quite strict.

Em, love the photo - too cute!

Our social distancing is one and a half metres. I totally get you
about the masks.

DS came for lunch today and we are making it a weekly date.
We have decided to have dessert once a week so that we can
have something to look forward to. Jello and fruit salad and a dab
of fresh cream.

So glad you're ok! Yes the masks are horrible! I will never go to the gym again as long as they're required!! I can barely breathe during normal daily tasks! I take it off as soon as no one is within 6 feet

Had the NEGATIVE RESULT back in 6 hours. It's good news.
I am so glad it is not mandatory to wear wear masks here.
I was given a mask when I walked in and I had trouble breathing
like when you have a panic attack. I was the only one getting tested.
There were at least 20 staff. I was given a medical certificate which
I will need to take to the dentist on Friday.

All good to know it was just a cold. The coughing was because I wasn't
taking my puffer every day. A reminder to take the preventative med daily.

Cindy, you'll figure out a new routine. It will be worth it to have the extra day off.

Anna, hope that your covid test is negative. Still worrisome though.

I bought some gluten free pizza pockets and put salad in it.
It was really good. I was still feeling shivery and cold and coughed
a little last night, so I went to get the Covid test today. I hyperventilated
with the mask on and couldn't get it off fast enough when I went outside.
I have to self isolate for up to 72 hours till I get the test results. If I am
negative, I will get a text message, or a phone call if I am positive.

Nothing much today after that, so just rested. Happy October to everyone.

Cindy, I hope you get used to the new schedule. Makes for a long day.

I had GF pizza this weekend too, Shirley!

Got some more news today. They're putting me back on 10 hour shifts, so I'll be working 10am-8pm Wed-Sat. I might start as soon as Wednesday! I'm happy about having an extra day off, but I'm going to have to figure out how I'm going to manage my routine on work days.

We had a good day and Sam is visiting us again. We pigged out on gluten free pizza and chocolate cake, but sometimes life happens. Back on track tomorrow.

Anna, so glad that you're feeling better again!

Cindy, you're amazing to be able to pull off a double shift! Hope that you enjoy your extra day off.

Em, we really need rain too. Hope that we both get some.

Hope you all have a great week too. I love my sea vegetables. I like to make a sushi with cauli rice using nori sheets. I like dulse..wakame. Like to get a seaweed salad at a restaurant if they have it. I like pink salt- so sea vegetables help me get my iodine.

Looks like rain tomorrow- we need it.

I've never heard of wakame but I love nori and eat the seaweed snacks all the time!! I buy the big case at Costco.

I did another overnight shift in exchange for Tuesday off so an extra day. I did well! I didn't hit the wall until I was waiting for the next staff to come in at 7. She was late, sigh. I made it to bed by 8 and got about 4 hours. I laid around but couldn't sleep. I'll sleep well tonight!!

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

Thanks Shirley. I have bought some Korean seaweed snacks.
I like it too. I had the chills and a runny nose, but Panadol, hot tea
with honey and staying in bed and i am really good today. Thank God!

Anna, wakame is a seaweed that is really chewy. Both John and I love it.
