If you tell God no because He won't explain the reason He wants you to do something, you are actually hindering His blessing. Yes I'm trying this, tho I'm in zone 7. Chia is hardy in 8 and above but apparently it only needs 4 months from germination to flower so I'll treat it as a self sowing annual. Thats the plan anyway.

Found this on a google search

I thickly direct-sowed the chia seeds into a border around my garden. Within 2-3 months a dense green fence popped up and now protects my garden from small animals and deer seem to be avoiding it. They grow very fast and fairly straight. As a secondary and tertiary functions, they also blossom to attract pollinators and produce seeds that just so happen to be super foods. Tons of omega 3s!"

Also you can eat the sprouts in salads..can't help but sing that Chia theme song from TV as I post about my new experiment. emoticon

Are you going to try it? It is a pretty plant. I will have to see what zones it will grow in.
Thanks for sharing!

I'm not losing weight...I'm getting rid of it! I have not intention of finding it again!

Has anyone tried growing your own CHIA?

Bought a bag of Chia Seeds to eat and then started googling growing your own. (Its a SUPERFOOD like Flax Seed except it doesn't need to be ground to get the nutritional benefits.)

Anyone have any experience germinating and growing your own? Looks like it will make lanky flower stalks and is a prolific self sower, so it might be best in the back of the garden.

If you want to start your chia plants indoors or close to your garden tap, sprinkle the seeds lightly in your pot and water regularly. When the sprouts are about three inches tall, they are ready for transplanting. Remember to mulch your chia plants as they grow, and water them regularly.
