great tip about the aquarium rocks

If you tell God no because He won't explain the reason He wants you to do something, you are actually hindering His blessing. But when you say yes to Him, all of heaven opens to pour out His goodness and reward your obedience. What matters more than material blessings are the things He is teaching us in our spirit.

I've heard that just using a soft paint brush to pollinate tomatoes works. Never heard of using an electric one.
To keep the squirrels from digging in my containers, I put a couple of layers of larger (1-2") stones on top. At the end of the season you have to remove them first, so I just store them in a 5 gallon bucket and use them again the following year.
To help reduce the mold spores released from the soil of indoor plants (good if you are allergic as my hubby is), you put a layer at least 1/2" deep of aquarium rocks on the surface of the soil. This allows water to get through, but since the mold spores are trapped under the rocks, they don't get released into the air.

like the first squirrel post: a glass bottle buried up to its top in the soil drives away groundhogs. as the wind blows over the opening, it makes a noise underground they don't like. Have to dig them up and drain them several times a year, though.

For mulch, I use whatever I can get for free. I usually start with a base of cardboard and/or newspaper and top it with nut shells (rinsed if salted), dried bean shells, leaves, small rocks and pebbles (like for fish tanks), grass clippings, pine needles, pine cones, wood chips, small sticks, and sawdust (from untreated wood). Last year, I let some okra dry on the stalk to save the seed. Those dried seed pods got tossed onto the mulch like everything else. Things that don't degrade much, like the pebbles, go in specific areas. I'm keeping my eyes open for a free source of straw.

Take doggie or human hair and put on veggie gardens to keep squirrels out of them!

I'm hoping everyone will share a tip here. I'll probably learn more from everyone else but here's my first tip: To stop squirrels from digging up flowers in pots and boxes, but bits of doggie poo around the plants on the top of the dirt. Small bits work! Apparently squirrels don't like to get their little paws poo-ey!
