Well starting your own seeds can backfire too. Don't know how I managed to give away all my black cherry plants in the spring. I labeled them carefully but I dont have them in the garden. Have some huge beef steaks there.

It's time for me to plant my fall crops too - carrots, beets, peas, and lettuce can all go in now where I live.

Have a new crop of cream peas coming up, fall potato crop planted, and parsnip and chard seed to get started. Everything has to have water management as there is no rain. We did get a little cloud cover until mid-morning today.

I usually do start mine from seed, since I can't find all the varieties I like to grow at the store anyway. Time just got away from me this year and I didn't get it done. Lesson learned!

It happened to us on tomatoes this year and pepper last year. I agree the only way to get a true product seems to be starting your own seeds. I intend to have a wonderful time doing that when I retire.

Seems my first batch of bell peppers that I bought are actually hot peppers, and it looks like the 2nd batch that I bought from a different place aren't bells either, but banana peppers!! DEFINITELY have to start all mine from seed next year! I had planned on doing that this year, but with everything else going on, I just didn't get it done. Hopefully I've learned my lesson!

I've got some things that I wanted to plant as well that like cool weather, and it's too late to plant them now. But if I've got some bare spots in mid-August, I can always plant them as a fall crop.

I intended to start seeds for replacement plants, messed around and didn't get it done, so am planting some flowers instead. One way or another, gotta get something in my dirt. We are going to plant southern peas when the tomatoes come up and I have a cucumber to try again. Maybe some fall squash in a month or so. It doesn't get cold here until the end of November so there is no need to worry about anything until the end of August.

It's a great suggestion! We can get started saving those now and even asking friends to save them for us so that when the time comes next year we will have enough!

While this is no longer timely for most (sorry, new to team), save those big, clear blanket and quilt bags if you purchase one this year. They make great indoor mini greenhouses for seed starting. Zipper can be opened or closed depending on temp and humidity buildup.

I cannot exercise my way out of a bad diet.

If you live in the eastern part of Texas, it isn't too late to plant just about anything if you manage to get out between deluges. Mom planted cream peas and purple hulls last week and has a nice stand of each. We also have wee little spinach and mesclun lettuce plants, and an abundance of yellow squash, cilantro, basil, and our first tomatoes--which cry out for two slices of white bread and a big old blob of Hellmans.

My peppers and tomatoes are up, fingers crossed that they make it another month inside. A couple of the tomatoes are looking a little leggy though emoticon

I have a couple of tomatillos coming up, was surprised to see how small and thin the seedlings are.

This weekend I started my cabbage, Brussels sprouts, squashes, cantaloupes and eggplants inside, Some seeds are old so we'll see what's viable. Outside I planted some peas, though quite a bit later than when I generally plant them. Greens went in about 2 - 3 weeks ago. I'm in zone 7 so I won't be putting anything outside until the weekend after May 15th.

I messed up my sunflowers - bummer, I started them THEN read the packet.. They only need 4 weeks indoors - oh well that's why they're flopping all over the place. I have 3 seed starter pots of 6 left so I may just redo them in there this weekend. I think I'm done starting veggies indoors this season.

We planted all the left over seeds from former years yesterday. I got out all the old plastic pots from years of going to the garden store. We also put together a small green house. Maybe nothing will pop up. Oh well no out pour of moolah. Then again maybe something will germinate. If so we will have a good deal. I am anxious to see what happens. maybe I should have read the article first. I am going to read it now. If nothing comes up, we will start from seedlings again, but more of them. Next year new seed for sure.

I have ridiculous spring fever and can't wait to get my garden started.

I'm staring my 8 week seeds (peppers) indoors this weekend, and also plan on direct sowing peas and greens. As long as I am able to work the soil... Snow is finally gone, let's hope this weekend is decent to plant, last weekend was a rainy mess here in NJ :(

Speaking of seed starting I wanted to mention a company I tried this year:
High Mowing Seeds
www.highmowingseeds.com/organic-non-
gm
o-tomato-seeds.html

I already started one tomato and one eggplant variety and both popped up in less than a week with 100% germination!

They may not have the biggest selection but all their seeds are certified organic, the packets are around $2.50 or $2.75 for a small amount (which is perfect for my small garden) and best of all - shipping is always free, no matter how small a purchase! I think their potatoes are also the most reasonably priced. Some companies want to charge extra shipping for potatoes, but they ship free. I'm going to have to order more potato grow bags because I ordered 2 different kinds of potatoes this year, just because of the free shipping LOL. I think I'm going to have to grow some in my front yard because I have no room!

If you tell God no because He won't explain the reason He wants you to do something, you are actually hindering His blessing.
