Welcome! This isn't that active of a team but I think there are definitely people checking in every once in while. Just curious - if it's not too personal - did you your doctor NOT want you to life weights?

Hi, I am new to the team and weight lifting. I got into weights last month after a disagreement with my doctor. I then joined the healthy living movement and is hooked to weights. I look forward to any advice and is open to anyone who would like to be my mentor. Thanks for having me!

Hello Iron Maidens:

I'm new to the team, relatively (oldest of the new ones on main page). I'm 55, strong as an ox, in a weigh (I weigh in mid 300's), and hope to lose 200 pounds in the next 2 years, by my 57 birthday early Feb 2020.

I was interested in lifting in high school, when I was quite thin, because even though I'm strong, my upper body is not so much. I started after college, from a book on female weight lifting, illustrated with photos of an exercise model. The next 2 books in the series were impressive, because she definitely had gotten more defined, cut, refined and shapely. I have feminine (no broad) shoulders, and could never climb things that rely solely on shoulder/upper body. My biceps, triceps and back are pretty strong, but my chest isn't; can't do pull-ups or push-ups well, so that is one of my goals for 2018, to do 18 of each. Also to work in regular strength work outs. Also daily abs.

Recently, with the snows this winter, I hurt my elbow, tennis or golf elbow, shoveling snow. on my dominant, right elbow. It takes months to heal, so that is another issue. I plan on focusing on my left side more, it's weaker anyway.

I love the name iron maidens; reminds me of strong women of the past, like Viking women or Amazons. Hail iron maidens! emoticon emoticon emoticon

2019 is OUR year!! Make it happen!!!
My word(s(-of-the-year: (2018 was persist!)) *eMbody KIND(/ness) &/ =balance=
*mindfully live in the moment
My 2019 goal is losing 100 pounds (so 120 on ticker) thus -25 every 3 months;
Jan-Feb fitness goal = PUSH-UPS! 25 military style in a row; aslo 10 min min
Jan food goal: cook M, W, F dinners, maybe on weekends too...
Jan h2o goal: work to 8 cups of water a day
Jan org'ing goals: Org craft room, bedroom + 4 activist actions

@MS8WOTW

Look for a "Introduce Yourself to the Forum" and then the thread called "New to Strength, a Good Place for Beginners". It is long and detailed at times, but I think it has what you wanted.

Let me see if a link to the thread works.

Hello, I am new to the team. Looking for guidance as I get started. Currently, my daily workout is 32 minutes on elliptical, then various machines for another 30-45 minutes. I really haven't ventured into free weights, kind of intimidated by it all.
