My doctor eventually decided it was harmless -- that is, something that rest would likely help the most.
I had mentioned that my balance was also getting worse and she ordered an ultrasound of my arteries to make sure it wasn't related to that. That piece is likely related to becoming older.
It is decreasing each day but got triggered on Friday because my train was 2 minutes early and I had to run for it. The conductors will hold the doors for runners but there seems to be a secret consensus or something that if you're not running, you're okay with taking the next train in 25 minutes.

Good thing to get checked out.
I had a similar problem a few years ago. Turned out to be costochondritus (I think that's how it's spelled.)
Harmless condition. It was caused by too many push-ups and chest flys. Inflamed ligaments that are attached to the sternum.

I'm really glad you have a doctors appointment. Sounds to me like it could be a sternum thing, but it's probably not anything anyone but a doctor can diagnose and treat. Hopefully it's just a strained pec muscle and will need nothing more than rest.

It does sound related to the movement of your ams, though, which is completely negated when you recline cycle. So I'd still with just that for cardio now and lay off the lifting until you get to the bottom of it with your doctor.

I crawled slowly into weightlifting last November. I'm still a beginner.

But ... recently I've noticed a new problem ... when I do anything like elliptical or even walking briskly, I get pains in my upper chest, just about centered between the breasts.

It does not happen when I'm reclining cycling.

Wondering if this is related to anything weightlifting.

I've got an appointment to see my doc, so looking for other clues at this point. I did come across another discussion where someone recommended closing the mouth and breathing only thru the nose. It does reduce it.
