Thank you so much, voices of sanity!

I've decided to not worry about it and just keep going with my usual plan. It did tell me that I'm well hydrated, so I'm going to only listen to that part.

You'd be surprised at how inaccurate those machines can be. I had one measure me at 25% body fat, when I was 17% by caliper testing (MUCH more accurate). It depends on so many things, including hydration level, but also tends to make anyone over 30 automatically fat.

Those bodyfat machines can be pretty inaccurate. I'd say if you are happy with how your body looks, go with that and ignore the machine.
You could also try one of the tape measure formulas:

I think you need to listen to you and not the test. You are doing all kinds of good things and it is working for you and you are sustaining it.

If you really do feel good and plan on continuing your current heath trends then I'd say stay the course and get tested in another year. If you are lifting, especially at a 5x5, then you will be gaining muscle.

If you are feeling tired or otherwise over worked, then think about upping your protein, but if you are doing good, then I'd let it be good.

I had this InBody machine test at my gym, and it came back saying that I'm undermuscled and overfat. Specifically, it says that I'm 31.3% bodyfat. I'm 38 now, but I've always been thin and scrawny. I'm just surprised that I have that much body fat and I'm not sure what to do about it or even if I should do anything about it.

I'm actually pretty happy with my body overall. I'd been gaining some weight over the last year, but I've also been making giant gains in my deadlift and squats and doing more heavy lifting, so I was hoping that this test would show that I was earning muscle and shouldn't worry. I weigh 120 and I currently squat 80 and deadlift 110, which feels like a miracle to me. I started this year by learning how to do both exercises with good form in my PT's office. I alternate between Stronglifts 5x5 and running 30/40 minutes at the gym a few times a week, plus I walk 4-5 miles a day as my commute. I have a chronic sports injury in my hip, but I've been working with a physical therapist for a year to keep it in check. Together, we dropped 2 minutes off my 5k time last year, so I'm running faster than I've ever been able to. Nutritionally, I'm a long-term vegetarian and try to keep myself on a moderate diet. I have treats, but I also have salads and try to get in more veggies. I don't track because I usually eat food that's hard to track. Like I said, I feel like I have good, moderate habits, but then I got this test done and now I feel like I've been doing a terrible job.

Anyone have any advice here? Has anyone else been gobsmacked by one of these body fat percentage tests? I've been thinking that maybe I should take on something simple like "eat more protein!" for this month just so I feel like I'm being proactive.
