Hey all, sounds like a busy, busy group.
Jackie, I am definitely a morning person. Love getting up alone, doing my thing, and being at work by 7:30. I find things are much smoother when the day starts like this.
Today I started all over again with the running. I mean totally over. But, I am running faster for the running portion and walking faster in the walking portion. This is the first time in ages that I feel like I got a decent run. Starting over with ST too. I've been in a funk for so long that any progress I had kinda petered out, soooooooooo I am back at square one.
Gail, your day sounds insane! good job on all the working out.

two workouts today and I am soon headed out for my 3rd one soon.

workout #1 was a sparks workout. Remember, I already told you about that one. I sat with a coffee, my laptop and heart rate monitor for one hour. I burned 69 calories. 1.15 caloires per minute. (sure would take a long time to burn a pound.) :-)

workout #2 - I cycled 20 miles. 735 calories (I think). that workout was around 88 minutes long. That's 8.35 calories per minute...8 times more!

soon Yvonne and I are going out for a run...workout #3.

Hello!

Late check in today. Been busy =( But I did run this morning before it got too crazy.

Jeri- Continued prayers for your sister and also for the Braxton family. Take care of your self too =)

Jackie- Congrats on being a finalist. You'll do great on your interview. I always went for the morning classes. I almost always had labs in the afternoon and those were tough to stay awake in lol!

York- Hope you feel better soon. What marathon are you planning on? A few of us here are tossing around the idea of San Antonio in November.

All right, I have to get back to work. Try to check in later...

Christy - Oh I am DEFINITELY a morning person. I had all 8 AMs last semester (and a much, much, much worse living situation) and it was rough. But, the class schedule isn't too bad (minus Tuesdays). Tuesdays will be 8 AM to 4 PM, but only 1 class Friday, 2 classes Monday with a loooooooooong break in the middle.

I think I'll go with 8 AMs. Ugh.. :) Looks like I'll either have to shower at the Rec on Tuesdays, or go back to lifting in the afternoons.

Jackie-Iíd go for the 8am classes, but Iím more of a morning person and like to get things done and over with. Thatís why not exercising in the morning really stinks right now! Are your classes next semester going to be any easier? You have quite the class load right now!

York-hope you feel better soon.

Eating a yummy lunch right now Ė grilled tilapia and a fresh black bean and banana salsa in a tortilla. Itís yummy, but co-workers are complaining that I stunk up the office with the smell of my fish. :)

But I will still get my 6 mile run in tonight. Shockingly, despite the infection, I can still breathe pretty well.

Today has been alright. This morning was BUSY, and things will just keep getting busier..

I'm at a crossroad.. The choice for next semester is 8 AM class everyday of the week, again, or not take a math class from my current math professor, who is a really good teacher. Right now I'm leaning towards 8 AMs..

Did 30 minutes on the elliptical this morning and 35 minutes of weight-lifting. Burned over 500 calories and had a yummy breakfast burrito. Just ate lunch, okay, inhaled lunch, and have one more class, a run, and dinner left to fix today.

Gonna try to get my math online homework done so I can do my problem set, old physics' tests, and study for engineering tonight.

Jeri - I'm sorry for what your family is going through. I hope things get better soon for you all.

Jeri, I am praising God for your sister's situation. That is wonderful news. Also, continuing in prayers for your family and for Braxton's family. Just praying for comfort and strength during this difficult time. Your time is GREAT! Geez, I'd be dancing in the streets to clock a 10:45 mile! lol If you need a laugh, just picture a sloth on a treadmill. That's me. lol
Blessings to all the runners. This is a wonderful team.

JohnFS-sorry to hear about the ankle. Take it easy on it, make sure not to injure it further.

Jackie-Congrats on being a semi-finalist!! Good luck with the interview. All the hard work is paying off.

Holly-how nice of you dh to have dinner ready for you.

Jeri-gosh, so sorry to hear about your sister and that little boy. Sounds very sad. I think you need a camping trip soon, to get away from all the stresses in your life. In the meantime, donít overdo it. As Kim said, youíre probably a bit numb right now, so you still need to be kind to your body. Too much and it will rebel. Many, many prayers coming your way.

Beth-good job on getting the early workouts in!! How fun, new sound system. ďSoundsĒ like youíll be ready for summer with the patio speakers.

Gail-youíre too funny with that new HRM.

Tammy-good job on getting the ST in early. I meant to ride my go-nowhere bike last night but time ran out. I need an extra two hours every day.

We are supposed to go to the coast this weekend with two other couples and ride ATVís on the beach. Our ATV has been on the blink for awhile and my husband was trying to fix it last night. He hooked the new battery up backwards and wala Ė fried the whole thing! Heís hoping itís just the main fuse, which he hasnít found yet, but Iím doubtful.

I went out for a 3 mile run. It wasn't fast. It was a 10:45 pace. I stopped and took a picture of a hopscotch on the park path. It was nice. My daughter called while I was out. Braxton's kidneys are completely shut down now, and his toes are gray. The nurse said it could take up to 2-3 days. Their grief is overwhelming.

Good news from my sister, though. The spot on her toe stump doesn't appear to be anything significant at this point. They are discharging her Thursday. Yay!! I told her that I wouldn't be able to get there until Thursday, because I am doing a lot of babysitting while my daughter is with her inlaws.

My run put my mind in a better place.

Oh jeri, my heart and many prayers are going out to you! I'm sure you are a bit numb from all of this. The run will help you out a lot. Oh my
Well, I'm just getting my day going and having the first cup of coffee. Hoping everyone has great runs.
Again, Jeri, prayers are being said for you, your sis, and Braxton and his family.

I'm getting ready to go shake some dust out of my brain with a short run. I missed a call from my daughter, and I'm sure it was about Braxton. I tried to call her back, and she's not answering. She's probably on the phone with someone else. I know the hospice nurse is with Braxton right now. Last night his lungs were filling with fluid, and his kidneys were shutting down. I can't get his face out of my head. Hopefully, the run will help me focus on positives. I haven't spoken with my sister yet today. I have no idea what's going on with her foot right now. I need to find that out. But not until after I run at least 3 miles, maybe more.

Good Morning!

It's a quieter day at work for the moment... That's the only reason why I am on sparkpeople right now. :)

Jeri - I feel your heartache about that little boy - it is very sad. Will be praying for you all. Take care of yourself & don't push yourself too hard right now. You have a lot on your plate to deal with.

Gail - I'm almost tempted to set up a betting pool on how many calories you burned while sparking. lol

Jackie - you will ROCK that interview! I believe in you!

I did 30 minutes of ST before work. Plan to ride my go nowhere bike for at least 30 minutes after work.

Beth - 'sounds' like a lot of fun. :-) we have surround sound in a couple rooms in the house and we have thought of putting speakers on the patio. I am sure you will enjoy it all. Oh all this working out you do...Chalean...I am very impressed.

Jackie - I have a feeling that no matter the pending test or the result of the test you can set that aside for you interview. You can do this.

Helen - wow, what a race. Congratulations.

john - I would ice that ankle. Icing could possibly heal a minor injury very quickly, but usually it's more then a one time thing. Ice (or heat) a body part if it bothers you no matter how old the injury is. if it hurts most likely there is inflammation to get rid or you need to encourage healing by increasing blood flow.

It's a cool but beautiful morning here. I will exercise this morning. I am not sure what I will be doing. I think Yvonne wants to run this evening. So maybe a bike ride.

Right now I am sitting with my heart rate monitor on. I want to see how many calories I burn just sitting here doing my favorite thing...playing on sparks. I am sure the number will remind me how important it is to stay active all day long.

Jeri, you are going through so much right now- it might not be wise to push yourself physically. Or, if you're like me, feeling the fatigue lets you know that everything is "normal" and that you aren't inhuman - sometimes it feels that way when everyone else is going through all this and you aren't. Lots of prayers coming your way for your sister, for Braxton, for you (gotta get through it somehow), for your family.

Hi Road Runners!

The race was good fun. Only about 70 people took part which was a little daunting. The track was incredibly narrow in places and there could be no overtaking at the beginning but the track soon grew wider. The distance was 8.9 miles and ran beside a small dirt track from one village to another. Luckily the weather had been nice so it wasn't muddy at all.

The terrain was uneven and I spent most of the time watching my footing. My ankle was being pushed through it's paces as the ground was quite uneven in places and I am a road runner mainly.

Anyway, I was happy with my time. 1 hour and 19 minutes which worked out to be an average pace of 8.50 minutes a mile.

Anyway, I hope you all have a lovely day and congratulations on your sale Gail! Sounds like a fantastic cause to raise money for.

Thank you Jill, Jeri and Bath for wishing me well on my race.

Have a beautiful day!

Good evening, all. I'm tired. Life is overwhelming right now. My sister's toe is getting another rotten spot on it. She will be in the hospital much longer now, and they will have to decide how to treat her toe. We are supposed to go camping this weekend, but we still have her dog. We can't take the dog with us. Our daughter volunteered to watch the dog, but right now her BF's nephew is actively dying. He is 6 years old and has mitochondrial disease. He's had a rough life, never knowing life out of his wheelchair. He's always had a feeding tube, always worn diapers, etc. He goes from healthy to critical at the drop of a hat. He was good yesterday morning. Last night he got critical. His seizure activity has increased, and his body is shutting down. They have him at home with hospice care. I saw him tonight, and it's very sad to see the face of a dying 6 yr old boy. Nobody should ever have to see that. So our weekend camping trip is more than likely canceled now, because we don't know when Braxton's funeral will be. Or... he may surprise everyone and pull out of it once again. But his hospice nurse doesn't think so.

I'm not sure I ran hard enough today. 5 hilly miles, and I don't feel any ill effects. I should be feeling tired or something. Right? I'm not. Nothing is sore, my body is not fatigued. I should have pushed harder, I guess. Oh well. I will run tomorrow morning, and push myself a little harder.

I'm tiiiiired and I did NOT get enough done today. Mondays are like that for me. I went through all of my engineering chapters (well, just 2, did 2 yesterday) and gonna look over the past test tonight. I had a physics' review, and that was a good hour and 45 minutes. Mondays are such let downs. :(

I'm signing up for my interview tomorrow. I re-read my essays and some of them were DAMN GOOD! Haha.. I had some typos though :S oh well. I started freaking out to my mom because the interviews are next week AND I have a physics' test next week. So I had to figure out the "right" timing because Tuesday is the test, Thursday is the last day to get an interview done BUT I have class non-stop all day. So the choice was Monday before my test (while I'm freaking out over my test) or Wednesday after my test (with the possibility of me being super upset over the outcome of the test). The decision was Wednesday.

Ahhhh I'm so freaked out! Apparently this interview is super intense and I have to be "on my toes". Shucks, one of mine is broken! Haha, sorry, couldn't resist. ;)

I'm super nervous. I'm having really bad test anxiety and I ate a TON of produce today. I love fresh produce and probably had about 6ish servings once I shopped.

Okay, I need to stop procrastinating. Tons to do, and no time to do it. Night all!

John it sounds like you just need to give that ankle time to heal - I don't think you are getting too old at all. hope you found some great shoes, but again give it some time it has to heal!

speaking of lunch today - I went to go get my lunch and found my salad had frozen and the only thing I could eat was my butternut squash soup - thankfully that was great! but by the time I got home my dinner was ready and I was thankful there too, I would have had to graze while waiting and that is never good for me. my dh was thinking and had it ready when I walked in the door. sometimes life is just good.

we are getting some rain here so no outside running tonight - the tread is my friend. my next race is on the 23rd but it is a nice flat course so should be fun.

my internet seems to be on and then off again so who knows how long it will last, guess they weren't able to completely fix it today. but atleast it is working somewhat.

Hope everyone had a great day - Jeri how is your sister doing? hope well.

I'm going to go try to apply for my passport online again - that is how I found out our internet wasn't working it couldn't process what I needed to have it process. just something I need to get done anyway.

so have a super night everyone! take care of you

hello gang I'm a little bummed my right ankle hurts a bit when I push off in my stride step I went to a running free store that sells Newtons and the sales guy said you need a lot of support you roll from side to side as you run. I tried on a few different pairs of shoes and ran around the store to see if the pain would go away wearing different shoes I tried the Newtons, NewBalance 760 and 1225 and Asiacs fancy model with lace up that goes diagonal across the foot instead of the traditional straight down centre of shoe

JohnJP- You will love it I bought a cyclocross bike last year as a reward to myself for losing 50 pounds and my new fitness lifestyle, I hadn't owned a bike since I was 18yrs old
maybe I should buy your Bluenose bib since I wanted to go, and we can say they got the surname wrong- lol but the rate I'm going lately I'm having aches & pains after every long run maybe I'm just getting too old

Well I had that salad, fried rice, an apple, carrots, and some animal crackers. I was a hungry one. ;)

Now I want a nap. Unfortunately, engineering calls.

EDIT: Oh, my toe! This is the one that I'm pretty sure I broke February 14th (my half). I've been buddy-taping it for a while now and tried it out this morning without tape. It's doing...okay.

My salad for lunch was no bueno. Sort of a chef salad, but very blah. And I'm still hungry. Need to see what else I can find to snack on that's healthy.

Gail-it's windy here too. I HATE the wind!

Today is already successful. Why? I finally made a good salad!

It had spinach, avocado, tomato, and a honey-lime dressing. :)

Lunch was delish - now for studying.. :(

Jopa - so how are you liking your pretty black boot? :) I'm so glad you only have 3 more weeks to go! That time will fly by. There will also be a race to race... But you only have those feet for running, so it is good you are healing up now. Enjoy your love affair with the bike for now.

Gail - hoping the wind dies down so you can ride that bike!

Christy - way to go on your 5K! That's a GREAT time.

Jeri - I did a hill workout this morning too. :)

Got to get back to work...

Gail, I agree on the great job supporting Relay for Life.

A really leisurely walking marathon is probably just short of 9 hours assuming 20 min/miles.

If the wind dies down I will cycle a few miles this evening.

Gail-thatís a wonderful perspective you have on Relay for Life. My SIL is in remission, sheís only 39, got diagnosed at 37. I will be doing something for it this year as my work has a team each year, couple of survivors here as well. Cancer isnít picky, it strikes whomever it chooses.

Beth-hope the ankle gets better soon.

JoPa-Make sure you follow doctors orders and do ease back into things gradually when itís time. Definitely donít want surgery nor a 4-6 month break. Bummer about BluenoseÖ I know you were really looking forward to that.

Hi to everyone else.

Ran my 5k on Saturday. Felt great! 33:06 was my time which this penguin was very happy with. But, then I didn't follow through with the rest of my weekend running, should have done 5 miles yesterday. Did a lot of painting and chores around the house instead.

ST tonight, maybe a bike ride. I really need to get back on that thing! But I'd also like to continue with the painting project. My bathroom needs to be put back together, it's driving me insane!

JoPa, I'm glad you caught that early enough to avoid horrible things.

Jackie, what's wrong with your toe?

I ran 5.02 miles today, lots of hills. One hill goes up 100' in less than 1/4 mile. I hit that hill at mile 1.25 and mile 3.75. It was kinda toasty today (68į), and the hill seemed long. The 2nd time I hit that hill I didn't even look up. I learned that if I stare down at the road, it appears to be flat.

JoPa - That's too bad. :( I'm sorry. I hope these three weeks FLY BY for you.

My toe is bugging me. I probably should get it checked out, but whatever. :) It actually felt okay this morning during my run. It just hurts now. I curl my toes when I run, which I think is what got me in this boat..

1 more class, then grocery shopping.

I'm in a boot for precautionary reasons.

Looks like the Bluenose Half is out, even with a run/walk...

According to the dr. it is an overuse injury. The stress fracture is on the back of the heel, where the achilles connects. If I had ignored things and kept running it could have led to a much tricker injury that would have led to surgery and 4 - 6 months off.

I need to take my return to running realllllyyyy graduallllllyyyyyy with lots of calf stretching.

Morning!

Another beautiful day here. Hoping to get a lot done =) And hoping for at least 4 miles today. That probably means I should get off the computer and get to work, huh?

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good morning! 4-5 miles today, and then working on a new strength routine. I feel kinda anxious and jittery this morning. Maybe it was the full caffeine coffee I had at my daughter's house this morning. I only use half-caff.

Good weekend here. Rode an hour and a half Saturday with another runner on injured reserve, then met up with the regular running group for breakfast. Most are training for the Pittsburgh half or full in early May.

My seventeen year old son who has never been into any outdoor activities of any kind, asked me about a bike this weekend. By the end of the weekend we had fixed up a really nice mountain bike of my wife's that hadn't been used in years. Just the derailleurs left to adjust.

I am almost done with taxes. Looks like a big refund this year, so I am thinking of treating myself to a new cyclocross bike.

I have a drs. appointment in an hour an a half for the foot. I may come home with a boot. Three weeks of no running left...

Gail - I whine, A LOT. I mean, it's a lot of a work, but it isn't that difficult. It just takes so much time if you wanna do it right. I like spending my time on working out, school, and food...it's what I choose to do, so really I shouldn't complain.. ;)

70 minute run on tap for today. Just ate half a banana - will head out soon. Weight is up, I knew it would be. All that granola has to go somewhere..

Goal for this week: Don't destroy all progress on Sunday.
