I finished my first HM in a time of 1:47:51. I was very happy with the time and how i felt afterwards. I'm so excited about HM's i'm already looking for my next. Long term goal is to complete a FM this fall or the Pittsburgh FM in 2013.

So, how did everyone do?

I went 2:08 in the HM. Hurt my hip at the 10 mile mark and had to walk about 2 of the final 3 miles up the Blvd of the Allies. Disappointed, but we'll try again soon.

I feel really stupid ! I was so excited to run in my very first HM but I forgot (or should i say neglected) to sign up. As we all know they are sold out. So i'm asking my fellow spark friends, if you know of anyone that can not run and is interested in selling please let me know.

I'm registered for the half and I'll start training in mid-February, but I've also had a looong layoff from running. So, I'm trying to get in as many 3-4 mile runs as I can to build my base over the next month.

I am really excited, yet completely scared of the distance. I need to figure out a way to get my head to realize that yes, I CAN do this!

I did it! I'm signed up for the half marathon. I decided to register as a charity runner, which I'm super-excited about. Going to start training in a few weeks after I finish sparking to a 10K. See you all there!

I'm signed up for the Pittsburgh Marathon!!! I grew up in Pittsburgh (Brookline and then Oakmont) but haven't been back in over 25 years. I'm still an avid support of Pittsburgh sports.

My brother (who now lives in OH) tried to get me to run this marathon a while back.. but I didn't want to have anything to do with running.

This year, At 51 yrs. old, after sitting around doing nothing for over 10 years I decided to lose weight and started running. My wife had started running 2 years earlier. The short story that I was up to running 10 mi. by July and decided to set my sites on running a local marathon in Oct. 2011 with my wife.

Upon hearing that my brother said "Ok.. now we have to do Pittsburgh!!" I made a promise that if I finished the Oct. marathon I'd sign up for Pittsburgh. On Oct. 16th, after 4hr 53 min, I crossed the finish line. On Oct. 17th, I signed my wife and I up for Pittsburgh.

I can hardly wait. This is exactly the motivation I need to keep me training through the cold, harsh winter. Looking forward to this marathon and spending time back in Pittsburgh!!!

Thanks for the encouragement, APIRLRAIN888. I've definitely never been one to feel like I have to run the fastest and follow the crowd. I'm working up my mileage to feel more confident--just finished week 3 of Spark 10K workout and feeling good. HM training begins after that in mid-December. emoticon

I have not signed up yet but i will be signing up for my first HM. I'm excited and i'm looking forward to it. I would really like to run the Full but i'm not sure if i have the time to dedicate myself to that much training. Currently i do not have a training schedule other than i run 3-4 times a week and usually one of those days will be my long run. Two sundays ago was my all time longest distance at 9 miles.

ApirlRain888- You are so right about not following the crowd. That is exactly what i did for the Great Race and was tired by Mile 3. I was about 3 minutes faster than what i usually run at that point in the race. I was able to finish my first 10K in 12 years.

good luck to everyone !

Michael

DOCTATITO: yes, that sounds awesome! I did my first 5k around this time last year. and then went on to train for 10k..... by dec I ran for 2 hours.... my silly phone (my garmin at the time) said I ran 13.1 miles.. so I got a big head ;p

bought a garmin, b/c I started getting the feeling my equipment was defect in my pace and distance LOL

and got about a distance of 9 mile or was it 10. did the Just a Short Run HALF in march also in pittsburgh and then half in pittsburgh marathon!

so YES you can totally do it!!!!!!!

just remember to NOT follow the crowd, go at our own pace

I'm thinking about signing up for the half. I feel like I want to get at least one more road race under my belt before committing to it (think Turkey Trot), but I'm definitely more in the "Yes" boat than the "No" boat. Planning to decide before January fee increase.

You have plenty of time to get to 4 miles AND follow the plan. You just have to start now and be diligent. You can do it!

I signed up for the half. At this point, I will be walking and jogging enough to finish in the 4 hour time limit. I am hoping by that time I will be running more. I can't run 4 miles though, so I couldn't start the hm beginner's plan that I saw somewhere.
