You have to remember to take this one step at a time. Change one thing at a time. If you haven't been drinking 8 glasses of water a day, then start there. Start tracking your water and start to drink 8 glasses a day. When you get comfortable with that, maybe you have been drinking pop. Take the pop out of your diet. Remember SparkPeople is a lifestyle change not a diet. You need to make gradual changes that you become comfortable with. You should never give up anything that you are craving because that will cause more harm than good. Remember baby steps. Everything is slow and steady.

As for exercising, don't start off by killing yourself. Start off gradually and work your way up. Yes everyone needs to exercise. You can do 3 10 minute exercise sessions in a day to get 30 minutes in for a day. However, if you have not been working out for a long time and all you can do is 5 minutes in a day, that is better than nothing and you should feel proud you did that. Don't ever feel ashamed or disappointed because you didn't get a certain amount of time in to a work out. If you worked out and did your best, that's all you can expect of yourself.

Stay strong and don't be hard on yourself. You are a strong woman and you can do this. I have all the confidence in you. Don't let a set back get you down. Just brush it off and start fresh the next day. Just keep pushing yourself. Set small goals to achieve and just focus on that. You can do this.

Hi there,

I struggled with this for a long time. I would start again and again, and continue to fall off. I had convinced myself that it wasn't going to work. So I didn't make a plan, and would allow myself flexibility that I knew would knock me off track. But I wasn't totally invested.

Not until I had ENOUGH of the back and forth, and the giving up, did I start to see success again. You have to be tough with yourself. You have to say that no matter what, no matter how GOOD that (insert favorite food here) looks, you're not gonna do it. Because that food will always be there. You can plan to have an off day in the future. But you have to plan for it.

So pick a day. Pick a day where you're going to recommit to yourself. You're going to say " no matter how hard this seems, I'm going to do this. No excuses.". You're going to throw all the junk out of your house (if you have others eating stuff, ask them to put it somewhere else for now). If you have to cook for others, make a designated place for their foods, and a designated place for yours.

Then you STICK. TO. YOUR. GUNS. Don't let anyone say "oh just a bite of this". Ask them to respect that this is difficult for you and you have to make this work, so you'll say no for now.

Get your body moving. Walking, biking, gym, whatever you can do. Just get moving.

Drink a bunch of water. Before you eat and before you drink anything else. Drink water first.

Get EXCITED about making changes. YES it will be hard. That's ok. You're strong. You can do this!
