Before she settles down? I don't plan on settling down. The whole idea is sexist prattle designed to keep you barefoot in the kitchen.

Not done:
3. Try surfing, water-skiing, or some activity you don't already know how to do.
6. Train for (and finish) a huge physical test like a half-marathon.
16. Go out with a guy who makes you laugh ‘til it hurts.
18. Chill with your widowed and single grandma. She knows "alone"!
24. Invest in a LBD (little black dress) and some sexy stilettos.
25. Sit at a bar by yourself and drink a martini. Cool.
26. Buy something frivolous and expensive that you LOVE wearing.
28. Throw yourself into something time-consuming, like learning a foreign language. You may not have time to do this again until you retire and the kids are off to college.
29. Make a list of all your faults.
30. Learn to cook well. I'm still working on this.
32. Let your married friends edit your online dating profile. My dear friend Cheryl has caught a few doozies.
33. Get your finances in order.
36. Host a girls-only night. I think some coupled-up women forget how much we need each other.

Done:
1. Go to a movie alone.
2. Lift weights. When I bench-press 45 lbs., I feel like the bomb.
4. Take out the trash, set a mousetrap, do your taxes, build a bookcase.
5. Live alone, or at least move apartments in NYC without the help of family.
7. Go to a scary doctor's appointment by yourself. I once dragged myself to a CAT Scan in the dead of winter, all the way over on 1st Ave., post-break-up. I felt like I was made of steel.
8. Quit your job. It feels so good to take a job and shove it (and not be affecting anyone else's livelihood).
9. Fly to a foreign country by yourself. I was nervous on my first solo trip to Europe, even though I almost always have to travel alone.
10. Learn to stand up for yourself. (If you're not naturally assertive, may I recommend moving to New York City? It did wonders for me.)
To Be Able to Look Back and Say "I Had Fun"…
11. Witness something once-in-a-lifetime, like Jokulsarlon, a lake next to a melting glacier in Iceland (see photo).
12. Revel in being able to watch all the reality TV you want. I'm pretty sure no man will be able to stand as much Bravo TV as my roommate Erica.
13. Get drunk during the day, just because you can. Attend Santacon, the convention for Santas, or something similar.
14. Go on a date with someone who actually makes you nervous.
15. Go out with an older man who takes you somewhere nice and makes you feel like a million bucks.
To Get Perspective…17. Be a good wingwoman. It's not always about you.
19. Volunteer.
20. Do at least one Valentine's Day alone.
21. Attend a wedding (or 15) alone.
22. Date the creeps. You'll really value the nice guys afterward.
23. Buy yourself some flowers.
27. Finish all your schooling if you can. Not that it was ever my goal to go to grad school, but I did, and it would've been tough dragging a guy up to isolated New Hampshire and making him sit there in the cold for two years while I studied (and partied).
31. Get some hobbies. Something's gotta keep you occupied—plus it'll make you seem interesting.
34. Babysit someone's baby for an hour.
35. Help a friend through her divorce or a bad break-up.

I don't think rest and relaxation are part of marriage.. so far I have seen the look of exhaustion on parents faces and the pleading look of help me with them and then the gratitude for taking the kids for awhile or helping out with kids activities.
I am single and I have no kids of my own but I rent them more often then movies :)
It is good way to get in alittle extra cardio.
And fits in with the taking kids line in the things to do... lol

Let me see if I can plow down this list - especially since I'm a long ways off from "settling down"...

- Going to a movie alone: Check. Especially it's a movie that you don't want anyone else to know about. (I'm looking at you, Tropic Thunder and Hot Tub Time Machine.)

- Lifting weights / trying something intimidating: Check. That's how I got into The FIRM... or, to be specific, the only DVD of The FIRM that I have at home. Scary, but I loves it.

- Quit my job: Oh HELL YEAH. The last time it happened was right before I moved. I never looked back.

- Get drunk during the day: That's what Thanksgiving is for... and if I didn't move overseas (followed by not drinking any more) I would've gladly continued my annual tradition of the pre-turkey cocktail.

- Unfortunately, those "go out on a date with" entries have yet to happen to me at this point, especially since most of the "intimidating" guys I've met turn out to be really, really creepy anyway. Oh, well. At least I now know how to hold out for the guy who makes me laugh *and* makes me feel, as Whitney Houston would sing, "like a million-dollar bill."

- Moving overseas has taught me a lot about perspective. I've been spending more time with my relatives and volunteering in relief efforts whenever tragedy strikes. It's funny, because every time I catch myself (or anyone else) complaining about something petty, I end up saying, "Wow, if that's making you whine, then you must have an awesome life."

- Sorting through my family issues also helped me appreciate being single. Because I'm the only one who lives at home, I now know what to do with my Dad's finances if anything happens to him. I also stood by my best friend when she went through post-partum depression, which proved to be more excruciating for me than talking her through the worst of her breakups. Those experiences helped me realize that I needed to look at my singlehood from a different angle.

- Flowers, check. Stilettos, always. LBD? Still working on it.

- Ordering martinis alone: A grand tradition since I turned 21... well, until this year, when it became a bi-annual glass of wine instead.

- For me, the only thing more intimidating than going to grad school is working on a screenplay - and the one I'm writing now wasn't even something I planned on doing in the first place. I don't care if it becomes a movie or not at this point; I just want to finish it, that's all.

- I know how to cook. And I know how to knit. Can Eva Mendes do that? Doubt it.

- Finally, a piece of advice: if you must attend a wedding alone as a singleton, find a friend or anyone else at your table who shares your sense of humor. (My "wedding buddy" of choice: Mom.) That way you can make fun of every single wedding cliche that happens!
