I couldn't resist taking a peek on the scale after.... I put a pound on this past Sun. I'm down 2 lbs........if just goes to you..... how quickly things can turn around. Loss to date 64 lbs.

Some of you were talking about inches lost. I lost over one foot..... yes 12+ inches from my hips.... the belly fat is a little more stubborn but the muffin top is not even an issue. Still, I have a ways to go yet.

Losing an inch off is terrific!! If you are exercising, some of your weight gain could be coming from new muscle -- which is a very good thing!! hang in there :)

Well once again I gained the weight back, but I did lose an inch from waiste and hips. That should count for something. I'll just keep trying and count those calories harder.

Diane, the lack of sleep does have a way of affecting pretty much everything in our lives. I do hope that you're able to find what you need to really rest at night. I'm glad that the scriptures help. Great source!! Exercising might actually help too.

Linzee, what else is in your green smoothie? Keep up the good work.

Joan, the talk about the storm is pretty intense. I pray that it won't be as bad as what they're predicting. Regardless, stay safe--in my prayers.

I'm sitting here in my gown, knowing it can't last too much longer. I'm still trying to sift through the fact that my financial planner thinks I need to go back to work (and I really don't want to). I pray for wisdom and guidance.

Have a good one, all.

Kathy

Good morning from cold NYC, expecting storm friday, the way they talk they r not sure what kind of a day we are going to have.
Did the wash and shopped, so I would not run out on anything.

Way to go to all who had losses this week. I'm up a little this week, just got to stick to the plan.

I haven't been doing too well on exercising this week - I haven't been sleeping too well and that louses everything up. I got a hint from my pastor and I have been reading scripture throughout the day. It really leaves me peaceful. Hoping for a good night tonight. emoticon

Yea, Betty, down is the way to go. Congratulations!

Linzee, welcome. I'm Kathy--67, retired school teacher. I have two sons--one married, one not--and one granddaughter. I have three siblings still living--brother here in Kansas, sisters in Colorado. I have been with Spark for one year.

LadyKathleen, you're tearing it up, girl! Keep up the good work!

Pearl, you're knocking off those pounds too. It sure feels good, doesn't it?

Liz, welcome. It does take a while to figure things out on the site. I love my Fitbit too.

It's been quite warm here in Kansas, but we've been shorted on moisture. The drought is definitely taking a toll. Winter will eventually show up; I'm just not sure it will be this year!

Have a great evening!

emoticon Great to see so many new gals on board. The more the merrier. emoticon

Yes, it is important to remember that a pound a week is powerful mental tool. I know, we all heard this before....... a pound a week adds up to a whopping 52 lbs a year.

This is not a race against time; this is about learning... how to give ourselves proper nutrition in the most effective ways. Personally, I see it as one big balancing act.

We can't eat it all....... everything needs to be incorporated in the most beneficial ways.

To the new gals.......a toast to your health emoticon

I am just getting started. I joined about 2 weeks ago and have spent the time trying to get to know the lay of the land. I really like the idea of focusing on losing 1 pound at a time. I will make Friday my weigh in day. I have been getting started by drinking lots of water and trying to remember to use my food tracker. I have a fit bit which I love. I have enjoyed reading all your posts and I think it will help me a lot to check in with all of you. Thanks so much for the inspiration! Liz

I am so excited I can hardly contain myself. I get to go to another sandtray training on Sat for practically nothing. I wish my friend could go. No one in the office was available. But--it will be soo good!!!!!! emoticon Trying to keep warm around here--a lot of cold, no snow yet--a dab on Saturday, but nothing to write home about. I have been doing fairly well so far. I have been eating better and my sugars are low. I just spread out my meals and snacks and I try not to worry about getting hungry--for some reason that has been bothering me. I get an evening snack and that satisfies me. So as long as I know I have that, I am good. Drinking plenty of hot tea. Makes me feel warm inside and I forget about the chaos here at home. Well that's all I have to say.

Take Care!

Looks like I'll get another hour of shoveling snow on Tues. and Wed. mornings. It's been snowing most of the day and more is forecast for Tues. night. I'm glad that I'll only get 4" for the total and make for about 6" total on the ground.

I weigh in in the morning. I seem to be struggling too. Weight is going off slow and I'm eating more calories. I think part of the eating is the wide range of activity with the snow. Some weeks I burn 3X the calories I have estimated in my fitness tracker. I've also noticed my sodium level at or above my allowance and my carbs. are at the top half of my range.

It only took 30min. to shovel this morning, DH helped and we only got 1.5".

Down 0.5# this week

I, too, have not been doing so great in the eating department. I do eat healthy.......just too much.....gotta work on portion control and appetite control..

It was nice here in southwest Missouri today and is cooling off very quickly.

Meeting early tomorrow morning so guess I should fix a snack bag tonight.

Jam, it is hard to keep up. I try to make it once a day--even then, it's really hard for me to keep up. I'm glad that this message board is active though...there's so much helpful information and support.

Joan, is it snacking that's getting to you? Do you plan your meals and snacks? If you don't, you might give it a try.

Cat, congratulations on the loss. Every pound counts!!

Thanks, LadyKathleen. I've always been somewhat of a Pollyanna...really an optimist. I don't see much good coming from dwelling on mistakes or the past. Being old helps!!

Diet_Friend, with being kind of "stuck" weight-wise, I'm not sure I have a firm grip on what to change. Planning helps; staying busy helps; drinking lots of water helps. Keep track for a few days and look at the times that seem to be a trap for you and then make sure that you're planning snacks so that you don't get too hungry.

Gwynlee, good thing to do.

Irene, I was up too this past week and I have not a clue. I'm not going over calories. I was a bit low on the water-drinking a couple of days, so I know I have to do better at that. I keep reminding myself this is a process.

The weather has been pretty mild here. I don't feel it's so warm that I'm willing to take Stella out for a walk, but that will come.

Have a super evening!

Kathy

Diet Friend......Some years back, I timed my snacks and meals.. Just a suggestion, seeing as your having a difficult time. Try spacing out your snacks and meals where, you don't eat anything for at least three hours in between.

Hello friends! I am going to have a good eating today. I have spent a lot of the day working with my son on some projects. He has been so lazy when it comes to schoolwork and is now in the hot seat. It seems like his dad and I have to work just as hard as he does to get these projects created!

I have had a long stretch of bad eating days. I have been getting in my exercise and water, but not doing well on the eating side of things. I had a big meal at Cracker Barrel today where I ate a biscuit and part of a pancake. My own meal was the trout though and it was so yummy. Now I'm going to try to eat lightly for the rest of the day. I want to make a fruit salad from Hungry Girl that has cucumber in it as a surprise. I think it will be tasty. Strawberries and blueberries have been on sale here for a week or two. Likely there is a crop coming from Florida.

I don't know why I am overeating when I want to drop some pounds. What is wrong with me? Why am I having such a time controlling what goes in my mouth? I need to figure it out and really make it happen to get into the 2-teens. If I keep this up, it will be for-ever before I hit onederland!

4/3- 4/10 4/17 4/24 5/1 5/8 5/15 5/22 5/29 6/5 6/12 6/19 6/26 7/4

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Kathy, I live in southern MD. We got snow--a little-- and supposed to get snow today. It's been in the 20's again. Looks like I lost 1 lb this week. I'd like to keep it in that direction. Hope you are all doing well. It's been stressful in the house and I am trying not to eat over it no tempted I am. Just stuff I have to work out.

From the Heartland--we had an absolutely marvelous day--no jacket required. It's hard to believe it's February already!!

Ladykathleen, I have probably, through the years, been worse on myself than anyone else could be. The negative self-talk is habitual and hard to break. Mistakes are going to happen, but you need to be as kind to yourself as you'd be to one of us. Start out by acknowledging the good moves you make each day toward better health--say them out loud (as often as you can).

Rocklady, great loss. Be proud of yourself!!

Chris, you're a bit closer to ONEDERLAND than I am. I can't wait to not see that blasted 2 at the front of my weight.

Cat, where are you? Your weather pattern sounds llike ours in Kansas.

Carol, that's amazing. Congratulations on your weight loss and keep up the good work.

Tracey, Creaghel, and Gwynlee, welcome to Spark and to this message board.

Mediamaniac, thanks for the visual. We'd all do better to think in terms of what that weight actually looks like-hamburger, huh?

John, that's a mighty envigorating walk, but I am sorry about your discomfort--and then to treat it with more cold!! My bronchial tubes flare up so easily that I'm staying inside. I can walk when it gets warmer.

Secondhalf, welcome. It's never too late--we've all had last-ditch moments. Use all the resources available--it's not easy, but it is simple!!

Kathy

I have just joined Sparkpeople and this team as a sincerely last-ditch effort to shed some of the weight I have been gathering for 30 years. At 71, it's not easy to take on a new lifestyle but I am determined!

I just walked off a pound, even in 22 degree weather. I wrapped a scarf around my head twice, lol(big scarf) and walked to the park, sat a while , then walked back. It's moments like that, that I wish I took my extra cane for the other leg. I kept getting shocks to the lower lumbar
and that didn't help any.
I'll now use some ice to take care of the inflamation to the lumbar.
take care, John

Dear Sweets - it's hard to exercise in cold weather, that's for sure. Glad you found your fitbit and that it is working.

Welcome, Gwynlee!

I think we have to remember that sometimes we are losing inches, too, and not lbs all the time. And that's a good thing, too!

Or even half a pound at a time. Picturing what a 1/2 pound of hamburger looks like and then I feel pretty good about just losing 1/2 a pound. Stay strong and keep at it.
