not gaining but not losing so it is not a total loss. my tracking is getting better after a four month break. exercise is still slow but i am walking about a mile and half 5 days a week my calves are rock hard. should be able to ramp it up when the weather gets better but for now i will be patient.

It went from being 22 to 35 to71 and now it is 29 degrees and getting colder. What's up with the 71 degrees thrown in there on Tuesday? Go figure. We will be cold all next week. I am work hard on staying on plan. You all sound so busy. Tomorrow is Mahjongg and my meeting. Looking forward to this. I must plan dinners for something different when everyone is eating something that is not on plan. Haven't figured that all out yet. I am really tired tonight.

Take Care!

Rocklady........your doing well. A pound a week is good enough for me also. If we focus too much on the bigger picture it gets over-whelming. Five pound at a time is my focus....makes it so doable.

Life seems to have gotten really busy lately. I forgot to post yesterday with my weight. Seems I've gained one of the lbs back. I'll just keep on working on it. I know when I look in the mirror I see a waiste there that I haven't seen in a long time. The more I work at it the better off I am health wise, which makes it all worth while. I'll be glad when I get below that 200 barrier though.

I started January with the mind set of one pound at a time! So far I have lost 6 pounds for January and I am pretty excited about that. I had some weeks where I went up and some where I stayed the same. Then just started logging back on to Sparkpeople a couple days ago for more motivation.
It is easier to think in terms of 1 pound at a time rather than I need to loose 50 pounds.
I hope all of you have a good weekend!

What if today we were just grateful for everything!

What I find is that when I don't track, I sorely underestimate what I'm eating. Last weekend was prime example...I didn't track all weekend and I gained for the week. So on Tuesday I sat down and remember everything I ate on Sunday and wrote down the results and I was quite a bit over! What an eye-opener! So I must find time during all my errand running and household chores to track what I eat on the weekends and be really conscious of the kinds of foods I eat on the weekend. Weekends seem to be my downfall for the week.

Not doing well on my weightloss journey. I need to find my focus. Where is it? Where is my determination? Where is my zeal?

I have made myself get up, get dressed, and start a laundry load consisting of a chair cover that looks gnarly. I also got my first 15 minutes of Wii Fit in too. My daughter has a friend coming over this afternoon to go to a movie at 5:15. They don't get out of school until 3:45 so it will be a tight window. I am making some chili and pizza rolls and maybe cupcakes for them to gobble down before I take them. My husband loves chili too. I, of course, love all foods.

I guess I will re-commit myself to tracking as that is a habit I have dropped. I know it works to track, I just get bored or tired of it. I do track my water and exercise, but not so much what goes into my mouth.

4/3- 4/10 4/17 4/24 5/1 5/8 5/15 5/22 5/29 6/5 6/12 6/19 6/26 7/4

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Another cold morning here in PA. 14 @ 9am.

I'm not sure what I ate wrong but I'm retaining water this morning. My ring that is really loose is tight and my weight is up 2.5#. I'm hoping my diuretic flushes it out today. I checked my sodium intake and it's only been up a little 2 days this week.

cold enough to freeze the ta tas today the walk from work was worse than the walk to. and i am guessing tomorrow will be just as tough. time to bundle up again. i am really in awe of everyone progress. i think i have nipped the gain in the bud, now all i have to do is gather the determinatino and committment to going the other way again. it boils down to tracking the intake and motivation on the exercise. i have many many tools all i have to do is do it. the tiredness is winning overall.

Your so sweet Lesia, I can't wait to get the low down myself.

Of all things, I am going to the casino........sure I'll spend a little bit but mostly just to walk around it several times. It's too cold outside and mall walking...... just not the ticket today.

Your right though........something needs a tweak. Well, I am off to the casino. Wouldn't it be something if I have a win..... although I'm really there to walk.

We all stumble from time to time. The main thing is to pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and get right back on track. We can't let one bad meal turn into one bad day, one bad week, one bad month...

Irene, sometimes changing things up a little either in food or exercise helps. I've heard that just tweaking your eating by 100 cal one way or the other or switching up your workouts, say from aerobics to weights is all that's needed to give the metabolism a boost. Please keep me posted. You've had so much success at this that I'd love to know what works for you.

Have been beating myself up as can't seem to get back on track.
Have to have a more positive outlook & take each challenge as it comes.
Have to get over past mistakes & start moving forward.

Cat & Livsgma, this journey is not an easy one, but it's fairly simple. Each day comes with its own challenges; we just do the best we can at the time. Just move on; we do ourselves no favor when we beat ourselves up over our eating decisions.

Diane, eating more frequently works for me too. Sometimes I wish the nutrition tracker was set up for 6 smaller meals...it's worked so far, so I will continue.

Joan, you talk about Atlantic City and I think that would be fun; however, I have a casino about 10 miles from my house and don't go.

Diet_friend, the lighthouse sounds enchanting. I want to go!!

Daisy, you're doing great!! Keep up the good work.

Bottom line it's all about the calories.......calories in........calories out.

By dropping 500 cal a day.......... there's that's a pound lost in a week.

Hang in there.........spend our calories wisely.... after all they all limited.

Very cold in my region..... 25 below not to mention the wind. Friday is February 1 which means.... just a few more months of winter.

Thoughts of gardening helps.

My weight is stalled at 225. I'm glad I'm out of the 230s, but I need to ramp up my efforts again. Last week I had some long workout days but I need to do this more. I need to avoid things like sweets, bread, and pasta. I am doing pretty good at drinking my water, but I need to do better at eating veggies.

Yesterday a good friend of mine and I went to St. Augustine to visit the lighthouse. Climbing to the top sounded worse than it was, but maybe I'm in better shape than I used to be. Calves are a bit sore this morning.

LIVSGMA - Welcome! Looks like you've made a wonderful start and you have a great attitude! You're so right...forgive yourself and move on! I try to even break it down further and get back on track after a bad meal. I used to always figure I blew it for today, so may as well continue with bad eating for the rest of the day and start fresh tomorrow. Now instead I aim to start fresh with the next meal. Doesn't always work, but we try!

Diane - That's all we can ask of ourselves is to do our best, isn't it? As long as we don't give up, that's what matters.

I think its true, that the body does hang on to weight in the winter. We tend to be more active in the summer, there fore losing more weight.

Going to Atlantic City with my senior club for the day, its supposed to be in the upper 50s do you believe? Then we get cold again. Like a yoyo.

Have a happy.

Hi, all. I've had some good days, doing the best I can. Kathy, I sure hope my body doesn't hold onto winter weight! I'm trying my darndest! I find I'm getting full quicker with smaller meals. And I'm not thinking about food as much. Keeping busy.

Go team Go! emoticon That is me talking to get my bum in gear for a good week, since I did terrible over the weekend. I have been back to my regular plan of eating today. The rest of the week should be find. Last night we had a very starchy meal (DSIL'a recipe). I just can't eat that way. It was not good for my blood sugar levels nor my diet. Won't do that again. I derailed enough.

Had a pretty good week so far. Very busy tomorrow.

Good day team,

Seems, some of us are not....... where, we thought, we should be by now.

It was six weeks ago, I hit 60 lbs lost. Then, I gained 2 lbs at Xmas and stayed the same this week. My loss to date is 63 lbs. So it seems, it is slow moving for most of us.

Just the same, I am grateful........LORD knows, just how long it took me...... to get with the program.

As long as we hang in there, things will fall into place.

Irene

Betty, I was complaining to my older son about that exact same thing the other day. His reply kind of took me by surprise. Now I don't know if (or how much) this holds true, but he said in winter our bodies are programmed to hang onto weight. Since I have no explanation for the way my body acts, maybe, sorta, kinda it makes sense!!

Kathy

The son--6 ft., 140 lb. (Bet he's glad his body's hanging onto his weight!)

I hear ya! I stay within my range and exercise but the scale does not move. 3 lbs since Nov. I get so depressed. I am only one pound from my goal of weighing under 200. It may take three more weeks to get there at the rate I am moving. Can't up the exercise harder due to my still new knee but I do go to the gym and pool. I'm not sure what to do.

The weather here is near 60 for today and tomorrow then dropping down to 28 Thursday and 19 Friday.

Down 0.5# this week.

Really wish I could figure my metabolism out, I ate in the middle of my range, got more fitness minutes than planned, burned 3X the calories planned, yet I lost only 0.5#. I don't get it. emoticon

Rant over, emoticon on to next week, emoticon I WILL do this.

emoticon Well, it may be winter here, but someone forgot to tell the weather! It was 74 yesterday...windy, but amazing for the end of January!

Cat, workshop sounds revitalizing.

Yea, Jim, 5 # for a week. Good work and keep going!! I think you're right about knowing what it takes to maintain--ahead of the actual event. I'm not near enough to goal to worry about it, but it has to be a completely "other" lifestyle change once the weight is gone. Some habits will be formed through the loss of weight; maintenance is something I'm not sure I've ever really dealt with.

Nanci, my weight loss has slowed--I mean S-L-O-W-E-D--to a crawl, and I find myself dreading the scales. However, through the years, I've found that not facing the scales is, for me, a form of denial. I don't enjoy weighing (not sure I ever will), but it is the best way right now for me to keep myself in check.

Chris, good for you! Water weight or not, 3 lb. is 3 lb.

Irene, I'd gladly take your 4.4 lb. It's great progress--keep up the good work.

Stella and I went out for a walk yesterday. It was certainly windy, but wonderful nonetheless! It felt good to get out and walk. I miss my treadmill, but it was never like being out in the fresh air. I ordered a Gazelle last week and am hoping that I really, really like it. I'm thinking that I may begin scrapbooking today. I have pictures decorating the dining room table and have sorted at least some of them. I still have scrapbooks for both of my sons and now for Stella, and, right at the end of the year, I had the pictures printed (over 200); I have my work cut out for me!!

Blessings to all! Eat healthy and drink up that water!!

Kathy

I don't know how this thread got dropped from 2nd place on our board. I didn't do it, but it's back. I got a few emails from this thread's regular posters. If anyone has suggestions about sticky topics and such, please let me know. I don't like to be too pushy-shovey when it comes to this site.

Since the weather seems to be the starting topic of the day, that's where I will start.

Rained most of the night here in San Diego, today it's 54 degrees and very windy and gloomy. Doesn't look like it will rain any more, but they are saying it may rain tomorrow. Cold for the next two days, low on Tuesday will be 38. Yuck! The weather has been so crazy all over the country.

Doing my best to stay on track. Had breakfast at the bistro this morning as usual, looked at the dessert case, but didn't get any. Decided to save the calories for Wednesday when I'm meeting a friend and he Mom for dinner.

Weighed this morning, dropped those 3 lbs I gained last week, must have been water weight. Don't think there will be a lose tomorrow on weigh in day but hoping to make up for it this coming week.

Well, time to get busy and get the bills done. Kind of a lazy relaxing day today.

Have a blessed Sunday and awesome week ahead.

Chris

Here's the good news - by changing my eating habits since Christmas to lots more vegetables, more fruit, etc., my cholesterol has dropped by over 25 points! Here's the bad news, have only lost 3 lbs. since then and am always afraid to step on the scale! As I get to my water exercise class more regularly, I'm hoping it will show on the scale. Have a good week all! Nanci

I weighed in today the same weight as last week. At least I didn't gain - however my eating could be healthier and I have to make a better attempt at that this week. One thing I've been trying to work on is adding more calcium to my diet as I have some bone loss.I add in an extra dairy, and eat greens and broccoli. Any suggestions?

It sounds like you helped your client a great deal, Cat. Good job.

You've made a good start, Makame.

Sun out today and it is in the mid-20's. They say it will be a mix tomorrow. here in NYS.

Jeanine:

Do you exercise during the week to help maintain your weight?

The reason I ask is if I reach my desired goal, what is it going to take for me to
maintain my weight. I don't think I can maintain by diet alone.

It was a rough week at work, but I'm staying on track. Still at my goal and still eating right. It is hard at times, but I keep at it. This week I'm going to try different things for lunch and see what happens. Hopefully, I won't gain.

My eating was terrible yesterday. But once again on track.

My workshop was wonderful. The sand is so cathartic. We put ourselves in the sandtray and it means so much to us and when we tell our story of our sand scene we open ourselves up. When the instructor reads the sand scene it fleshes it out and we get an entire new understanding. There are three of us and we shared so deeply. It is a very spiritual experience. I am looking forward to our next session.

I am just plugging along.

Take Care!
