Good luck Cat. I too have a writer in me - I have multiple children's books that I've written but haven't had published as well as a few "started" novels - I worry it will never happen since I'm now in my 60's. Only time will tell. I lack commitment in some things like this and losing weight. I am trying though to change things this year. Wish me luck! Nanci

Hope you are all having a good MLK day! A bit chilly here 34 degrees. Sun shinning. My weight finally caught up with me. I am always a week off and gained 1 lb. No excuses now to lose it. I was very good yesterday and am working on my second day. will measure everything I eat. No more emotional eating--need to find something else to do. Writing helps. In a little while I will go take a shower. I am feeling somewhat better, but not completely out of the blahs. I am planning on writing an article today. Haven't written one for the new year. So we will see what comes out. I just keep practicing. Maybe one day I will get it right. There is a writer in me somewhere. I just need to find my voice. I don't know what that is like right now. Even the book I wrote, it was my voice--my research and memoir voice. I need to find something comfortable where I feel I am me. It just takes perseverance.

Well I am going to go take a shower to help me feel better.

Take Care!

Carol, glad to hear that you journey is progressing and it sounds like you are doing just fine. Keep it up. I am off from work today and plan on getting some exercise in and preparing some low calorie foods to bring to work for the week. It makes it easier to be prepared for lunch and dinner when I get home. Have a good day all.

Well, things are moving along for me since I had the surgery on Dec 17th, 2012. I lost 30 pounds in one month. But, the diet is strict and worth it.
right now my pouch only lets me eat 2 tablespoons of a protein per meal and I have 3 meals a day. Plus, I take in 2 protein drinks a day-8 ounces each. Then the rest is made up of plenty of fluids and my vitamins.
Right now I am on a soft diet with a little meat and fish-using a bit of sauce/gravy to make it easier to go down. I chop it up good.

I have been off work since Dec 16th and go back to work on Jan 29th. I will be glad to get back in my normal work routine.

I too have been doing that dance. Now finally something has clicked with me and I'm starting to see a consistent lose. Hurrah!

It is hard, and no matter what we do we will always run into those days that are tough and we want to go back to old habits. They do say that maintenance is harder than loosing. I believe that, but I know that with all the support here we can do it!

Not much here, church, breakfast, laundry and housework today. Haircut, drug store and then get bills and some work for school done when i get home tomorrow. So glad to have that extra day off.

Hope everyone has a wonderful successful week ahead.

Thank you to everyone for your support, and your honesty about you struggles and successes. This is a wonderful group.

Your post has given me many things to think about. There are problem areas we share! Thank you for sharing. I now have to go do some research for tips and tools to use in addition to my daily stuff. (I'm a freak for tools!) Thanks again!

Always so many posts here. You all remind me why I am here. I need your support. My cursor is going all over the place and driving me crazy. I did a full computer scan and nothing came up. Wrote my Blog post with some difficulty, but got it done. Just took longer than I expected. I did awful eating last night. More emotional eating than anything. Trying to get back on track. I have been good all day. Trying to find some umph. Going out for coffee and to write to see if that will get me out of this quandary.

Take Care! I am rooting you all on!

I thought I was really hungry earlier, then remembered I had NOT had any water yet. It was 2pm, I'd had coffee with breakfast and milk with lunch but no water, emoticon breakthrough for me, I DO mistake thirst for hunger. A liter of water and an hour later and I'm not hungry!

Slow and steady is the way to go. Sure, I could speed things up if.. I went on a diet but I am trying to teach this old dog new tricks.

Thanks for your comments gals.

It does my heart good to read your screeds here on the thread. I need to read them almost every day to keep inspired and focused. I have not had a good week of eating, but I have gotten in a bit of fitness every day. According to my tracker though, I have not reached my calorie burning goals. I will do better this week. I will be more concious of what my goals are and my progress so I can at least get enough fitness in to get a badge! The 2 things I seem to be doing right is pushing water and getting in fitness.

I want to eat more veggies but I don't. Yesterday I made some Hungry Girl egg rolls that were stuffed with cabbage, pineapple, onion, and water chestnuts. I ate quite a few of them too! I also made some chicken enchiladas, but they didn't have veggies in them. I had a big salad too. So yesterday was a veggie victory!

My kids and husband are all sick with flu-like symptoms. Two of them went to the doc about it and got antibiotics and something for cough. They have bad headaches and feel yucky all around. My son again requested lasagna, but instead, I made a big pot of sauce with turkey instead of ground beef. I filled it with onion, celery, and bell pepper and some frozen tomatoes my mom put up and gave to me. Also canned tomato sauce, tomato paste and a can of pasta sauce. It tastes pretty good and we ate it over cheese tortelini I got at Publix the other day. I know i ate too many tortelini, but they were good! I also cut up a canteloupe and had a wedge. It was an above-average canteloupe! I like to buy them when they are 2 for 4 dollars. Usually my son and husband love it, but I guess they are sick and ate too much tortelini too.

ANYWAY, I bought a new Leslie Sansone video last week at KMart. It was on sale for 7.99 but marked at 9.99. These videos are so cheap! Anyone can afford a DVD like this. It came with a stretchy band. I have not worked up the courage to do the video yet, but I did put it in the DVD player. Maybe when everyone goes back to school and I have the house to myself, I'll do it. If you haven't tried one of her DVDs, I encourage you to try one. The moves are not difficult. She's pretty perky and after you get good at doing the moves, you can turn her down so you don't hear her so much.

If you read all this, you probably need to get up and do some stretching moves! I know I need to get up for a minute myself!

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Thanks Irene and Kathy - I like the term tortoise syndrome - I definitely have it too. But, I am counting calories and have increased my activity level so I'm hoping it will show on the scale sometime soon. Tnx, Nanci

Irene, thank you so much for sharing your loss and calorie information. Sometimes it gets hard to see beyond where we are/have been. It's so reassuring to know that maintaining levels of nutrition WORK! Cutting calories seems to always be the "go to" solution to make the scales move; nice to know that slow and steady wins the race REALLY! I shall call it Tortoise Sydrome!!

Every day, hour, minute is a struggle. I love this site and everyone in it. I feel understood and can understand everything that everyone writes here. I am grateful right now cause I am still sticking to my plan. I received a phone call from a friend to go walking and I said yes. Every little bit helps to get to the goal in a healthy way and improve our lives. emoticon

Irene, thanks for the inspiration!! I recall you posting about really making the choice to be consistent last summer and look where you are! emoticon

It's been 1 year this weekend that I started to post on this site. In that year I have lost 25 pounds. I was actually down another 10 more at one point but have been doing the "dance." I had a great first year. I truly believe now that I need to change how I eat. I know that tracking, water, and consistent choices are what I need to do. Even though year 1 was not consistent, I can look back and see I'm moving closer to consistency. Yes, there were many days of defiance. There were many emotional days that I was not as successful saying no to the old emotional responses (like Chris and Starbucks calling). But there have been fewer days of defiance and excuses. I am really spending time understanding what it means for me to be consistent. It's causing me to "clean house" in my head. I'm not ready to say that it is all clean yet, but I can say that I'm seeing more of how I've sabotaged myself without even thinking.

For all those new folks on this site, I would offer you much encouragement. In all my previous attempts to "get healthy" I under estimated what I really needed to do to make habit changes. It's been a year and I'm not consistent yet, but I am definitely moving in the right direction. All of the people posting on this site are incredible help to me. Those doing well - those struggling. I know I'm not alone and that's what really makes me keep going.

I was just having a look at my journal.

In the last 23 weeks, I have lost 27lbs by being consistant. My calorie range is 1500 to 1800. Most of the time, I consume 1800. When I am ready, I will get it down to the 1500.

Each week, I lose no less than a pound.

Previous I did the up some........ down some...... dance. Once I became consistent....the dance ended.

Hi Chris,

I was thinking about your situation with your old friend. Maybe, he was just so shocked to see again and he just didn't know, how to handle it. I know Chris, nobody wants to get the cold shoulder especially........ where there was once mutual admiration.

The past 2 days have been quite fruitful.....yesterday son in law brought his battery charger down and got my truck started so I moved some stuff out to the shed. today, I filled the bird feeders, put out a suet cake, and then DJ took me for a walk. I wanted to burn papers but it is way too windy.

So nice to have the sun even with the haze and wind. Had the heat off most of the day yesterday and it's off right now.

Supposed to get cold again tomorrow...........Elsie

I am in a good place today. I did get to the gym yesterday. I keep tracking my food and staying focused one day at a time. I am amazed that I am feeling better too. I'm off to see my sister and do some shopping but when I return plan on making some oven roasted vegetables. The trick is having the good, healthy stuff available and planning in advance.... its finally sinking in. emoticon

I'm not even going to try to catch up on the reading. My eyes are watering, my nose is running, and my cough is alive and well. It's not all bad though--for the second time in two days, my weight has gone down, a new low today.

Happy Friday! And a 3 day weekend! Time to catch up on things and time for ME!

Pretty busy day at work, cold this morning but not as cold as it has been. It was 51 when I left this morning and by the time I got to the second job at 11:30 it was about 74. Supposed to stay this way for at least a week. I sure hope so.

My eating has been much better, haven't been logging the food in, but I really have been watching. It was the principals birthday at the second job and I refused a cupcake and even passed up here candy jar filled with chocolate.

Although I do have to say, I ran into an old friend at the second job, I've known him for about 6 years. We had gotten real close and all of a sudden he decided he needed to move on. It was a very close friendship, nothing physical. Well, he seemed really uncomfortable to see me at the school, I tried to play it off, but on the way home I suddenly had this "need" to stop at Starbucks. Then I got to thinking, why??? I passed up the chocolates, and the cupcakes why want a Frappechino all of a sudden. Then I realized that it really was bothering me that he totally ignored me and wouldn't even say hello. I guess you could say that was my aha moment. And NO I did not stop at Starbucks. Now i need to decide what to do, I think I will just leave things for another week or so and if nothing changes, I will need to confront him or at least email or write to him to let him know how I feel or else it will keep bothering me and I will end up back sliding.

Have more emails to take care of, don't want to get to bed to late, I don't want to mess up my schedule again.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Chris

Hello Onderfuls! My birthday was Dec. 27th--long past now, still another year older. Depends on how you look at it.

This last weekend has finally caught up with me. So I don't think I am losing. I am up a pound. However, I am sticking to my plan of eating. I have been doing well and measuring and not eating too much nor eating the wrong thing. A week from Monday I should be doing better. Need to clean out my system for all the carbs I ate. On a good note I fit into my jeans that I haven't been able to wear for several years. I am happy about that.

Tomorrow is my meeting day in the AM and Mahjongg at noon. I look forward to that so much.

Take Care!

Fuzzy, on the account page you click if you want to use the metric system; I'm guessing that you checked it by mistake.

Congrats, Diet_Friend, on the pants fitting and best of luck on your interview.

Chris (miz), just keep doing it. The scales are not always cooperative and, clearly, they are not the only indicator of success.

It's supposed to be in the 60's today. I'm having trouble finding someone to haul away my treadmill (without it costing an arm and leg). I may try to break it down a bit more and see what will fit in my trash container.

I started on a Z-pac yesterday for the bronchitis, but it doesn't feel like it's doing much. Time will tell, I guess.

Good Morning,

It's so nice to have another sunny morning. We are supposed to get into the low 50s today. I will be getting out and filling the bird feeders and replenishing the suet cages. Also, I want to get some things moved out to the shed while it is warmer.

Have some shopping to do today also.

I just turned the letters of today around and it spelled "toady"....lol

Good work in sticking with the program even if you didn't go down..it will catch up with you soon and you will see a big change......notice how good you feel when eating good foods...

D7TOHIM, The line dance lessons I take are free. There's one every wednesday at our Senior Center, all welcome no matter the age. The other 2 are on Monday and Thursday night at a local church with same teacher, or actually her daughter. Those are also free or donation if you can do so. I also have step sheets for a few of the dances and the music to go with them. Not enough room in the house or in the man cave lol. Will be cleaning out the barn and trying in there on warmer days. That way can do the dancing 7 days a week.

Not much happening here, worked at the second school today. Not working from 7 -11 and 11:45 - 1. with more hours coming at the second school soon. Definitely got more steps in today. An hour and a half of lunch duty supervising the kids will do that.

Need to get dinner, and then wind down for the night.

Have a wonderful Friday. Hurrah and a 3 day weekend to boot.

Sorry I haven't been able to keep up here. I am doing a Biggest Loser Challenge, which keeps me pretty busy here on Spark. Wish there were more hours in the day. Keep up the great work everyone!!!! emoticon

thanks for the encouragement full bloom. I have been (back) on the program for only abt 2 1/2 weeks and starting to get tired of it. I have to make sure I continue to track on this site and read the messages from all you wonderful people. That is how I will continue to stay on plan.

Happy Birthday to all my fellow January born sparks. I celebrated this month too on the 4th.

Hi all!. I haven't been on in awhile, so I just got caught up reading the posts. My idea to go up to my church's gym got stuck in the mud today Next week, as the rest of my days are full this week.

Mizcaw - I love dancing! Too expensive for me to join a group, so I just stick a CD in ...

emoticon , Liberry!

We will hold you to that, GetItDone. Parties are hard. If we can just tell ourselves that veggies are just as good as the desserts.... Just being home is hard, too! That's where I am most of the time.

I like the Greek yogurt, too, Kathy. Of course, with the fruit on the bottom. So sorry Stella is sick.

I wish you well on your interview, Nadine (now that it is Thurs.!)

Hi, Stephanie! Your attitude is good, so once you find something helpful, I'm sure you will stick with it. Patty - I hope you are feeling better! My nose is still drippy.

When is you birthday, Cat? emoticon Mine was the 16th.

Good luck on finding a treadmill, Irene.

Good luck on the walking, Sweets.

Bye for now. Oh, I gained back a pound this week. - Diane -

Keep the faith those who feel at a loss for not losing.

It took me a long time to get with the program..... although in my mind I was making a serious attempt.

I stuck it out and here I am over 60lbs + gone.

Persevere, no matter what, it will happen.

The scale is not the whole truth. It is all the baby steps..... it takes along the way that finally pulls it all together. There's quite a lot to consider changing. It's all in the planning.

I sure "hear" ya - happens to me too - I'm really having trouble losing this time - but, I remain hopeful! Started water aerobics and know how good it is for me and my life.

Some weeks I get so irritated with myself. Instead of losing the 1 lb, I gained it. I'll keep working at it and hopefully I'll relose and maybe lose a bit extra before next week.

Here in southwest Missouri it is cloudy with some sun.

My day started horrible, again,. I went to start the truck so I could go to TOPS and it said "I'm not going anywhere!!" and refused to start. I had a new battery put in yesterday so now I don't know what the problem is. When my granddaughter gets here with my car, I will jump start it---again.

So here I am doing laundry and catching up on internet stuff. I won't be able to get to the hospital today to use the exercise equipment.. emoticon They have a fantastic machine called Nu Step which is a recumbent stepper. I did 1100 steps in 15 minutes yesterday, then did 6 minutes on the recumbent bike. My hips began to squawk so I stopped and was going back today......oh well, there is always tomorrow or next week as they aren't open on the week ends.

Everybody get out your prayer cards and send them up for me! I have my interview today. I am wearing pants that I had not been able to fit into just a few months ago, but I slipped them right on and they aren't even tight. The scale is not the only arbitor of progress y'all! I know my pounds are up some from Tuesday since I've been lazy and hungry lately sabotaging my program for reasons I don't get, but the pants are on and I'm comfortable in them!

I hope you all have a great Thursday. It is cloudy here and supposedly the temps will go down tonight. It's been in 80s and sunny for several days and even here in the south that's weird in January. We like to have a little time to wear our long sleeves and closed toed shoes! I'm wearing a 3/4 sleeve jacket over a dressy black tank shell top. I wouldn't have minded getting my hair cut, but DH likes it long, so here goes nothing!

4/3- 4/10 4/17 4/24 5/1 5/8 5/15 5/22 5/29 6/5 6/12 6/19 6/26 7/4

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

I'm so excited! I just weighed and lost 5.5 lbs! that hasen't happened in a while! Of course this time is attributed to the stomach flu last Thursday and Friday, but I'll take it however I can get it. I just noticed though, my tracker shows kg and when I posted my starting weight and today's weight I assumed pounds. How do I change it?

well i have a post here to share i see lots of new people and lots of older posters, which to me is great. i have missed logging and "chatting" with everyone. the fitbit 1 i got with exercise reward funds is up and running don't know how i did it but somehow i ordered two replacements when i misplaced the original. the original went through the wash but not the dryer. so now i have to take them both in to get the funds back where they belong. i am really walking more, actually, back and forth to work not quite a mile each way. which for me being a lazy american is good. today i got some extra mileage in, nearly double of what i have been doing. i really hate using the laptop for logging i like my desktop for typing better. i will try to make sure i get a post in more frequently since things are settling down some. i am learning i really need better sleep with the fitbit 1. laying down for 7 hours and sleeping only 4 explains why i am always tried and it isn't the breathing cpap, it is the moving in the sleep thing. good friend of mine is walking on her treadmill and calling me while she is doing it, so i am going to use that time to do some bouncing on the exercise ball it says that can be an aerobic workout i am good for that. time to wind down have a great time

Irene, good luck with the treadmill, I'd love to have one at home but I just don't have the room for one. I live in a small one bedroom apartment. I know what you mean about having stuff. I too have a lot of stuff, knick knacks and decorative items. I'm constantly trying to clean things out but things seem to multiply.

Kathy, just be careful trying to exercise when you have bronchitis, the best thing for you is get plenty of liquids and lots and lots of sleep.

An ok day at work, trying to find extra things to do to stay busy. Will be working at the second school starting tomorrow afternoon. That will give me a little more money. Hopefully enough to make up for the extra 2% they are taking out for SSI. We are supposed to be getting a 7% raise and our 5 furlough days back but I don't think that will happen until July.

Weighed myself this morning, down another lb. won't count it until weigh in day on Monday. I have this tendency to go up and down a lot. I know they say not to weigh yourself daily but it really helps me to know if I'm on the right track or if I need to tweek things. I works for me.

Off to watch my netflix DVD and hem my pants for tomorrow.

Have a wonderful Thursday!

Betty, I knew there was a reason I didn't have pets!!

Congratulations, Chris, on the weight loss!! Good job!

Irene, nice job. Just keep doing the work, the results follow.

Pelzer, no way I'm going out to walk in 18 degree weather. Cudos to you though!!

Welcome, Smrder. I've spent too much money on all kinds of diets. Spark has been different. I know about the long battle with weight...I'm not fighting anymore; I'm winning!! Just keep coming back.

Yea, Patty! Great job with the loss.

Hopefully, I'll be able to find an elliptical this week. I stil have to call someone to haul the old treadmill away.

NYhardhat, I totally can identify with the jiggle mantra!

It was warmer today than it has been the past few, but here I am with bronchitis and not going out at all. Stella is nearly over the flu, but her mom is still sick. I haven't gotten many steps in today...guess I can do some before retiring.

Good Day Gals,

Man, those treadmills are huge.

I am the kind of person...... who sees a space in the house and I have to fill it up with something.

I also have a lot of stuff in terms of decortive objects...that's just me. So, somethings have to go to fit a treadmill in my eclectic over- stated scheme of things and more things :)

Oh, and how, I hate to part with almost anything..........but I have to. Don't get me wrong, I am not a horder but someone who enjoys looking at things that I find attractive.

Getting a treadmill is top priority; it has to be.

Have a great day.

Irene

Just got home from spending the afternoon with oldest daughter. We went to several casinos. I did well this time.

Weigh in Thursday at TOPS...
