Happy Tuesday folks!

PeaceLoveJoy - way to go overcoming all those hurdles and getting in that workout! I'm so glad you are enjoying the Inside Out Weight Loss podcasts! Renee Stephens is great. Love that quote you mentioned too, is that from Renee?

Nessagirl - congratulations on your raise! Woohoo! And congrats on planning your meals and staying in your range! Sounds like an awesome day!

Tanja - great news about your dog! I hope all goes smoothly with her recovery period. So you are already retired and in your 40s? I am intrigued! Please share how you accomplished that! I want to retire too!

Good idea about some new challenges in that section of this page. If you notice all the names of the leaders of this team, they are on the top right side of the page, maybe contact one of them? Funny, I've been active in this group about a month or so, but haven't seen any of those names around, anyone else know what happened to all the leaders?

Yesterday I didn't make my exercise goal. I was not feeling 100% so I gave myself a rest day. However, I tried a new recipe for dinner and it was so fun making a new interesting recipe, and bonus, it was yummy!

My goals for the day are to take a long walk with hubby, do a strength training video, stay in my calorie range and track it all, and spend an hour reading.

I hope you all have a great day!

I would be good with an exercise challenge as this seems to be my greatest challenge with the program but not lunges as I have a bad knee

MOMTOCONNOR2003 requested a new challenge and I like the idea. I am looking at our team challenges and there are a couple of them that we are not that active on.

emoticon emoticon Does anyone know how we can add a team challenge or change one????

For so many of us, this is a life-altering experience that is going to take quite a while to see the outcome of all of the changes. I would like to see a challenge around fitness that I am more confident I could actually achieve on a regular basis. Perhaps 10 mins of exercise daily, or a lunge challenge?? Maybe doing 10 lunges a day.

NESSAGIRL - That is FANTASTIC about the raise! Talk about an NSV (non-scale victory)! That is a DOOZIE!!!

PEACELOVEJOY - I was actually thinking of you earlier today and sending you happy thoughts and thoughts of encouragement. I am SO excited for you that you took up the invitation from your new friend (your new shoes).

Great news here in Denver - my pupper-dog Gracie Lou is going to be fine - YIPPEE!!! I am SO relieved! She just twisted wrong and kicked up her arthritis. There is also appears to be a little soft-tissue damage (minor tear in a muscle and a ligament), but no neurological damage, no broken bones, no spinal injuries!! WOO HOO!!!! She has to be closely supervised and be kept really quiet for 4 - 6 weeks (holy COW is that a long time!), but thankfully I am retired and able to stay home with her :)

She is going to have to get used to me working out around her without her acting like Richard Simmons herself - ha ha ha ha.

Happy Monday everyone! It was a very long but productive day today. I also received great news that I received a merit increase after not getting one for 3 years. I was so happy and shocked at the same time. I also planned my healthy meals for the day and stayed with the calorie range and drank plenty of water. Have a great night everyone.

PEACELOVEJOY2 – Way to go on getting your running shoes on and heading to the gym and getting that ½ mile in today. I’m looking forward to the weather getting better so I can get out doors and get to my running again.

Peacelovejoy2,
LOL! I am not laughing at you, but with you. I have a 30-year-old daughter, and I always tell her that days like this are just normal life. My husband used to say to me, "if that is all you have to worry about, I am taking great care of you!" It was his way of cheering me up on a rough day. I used to be a stay at home mom, but my daughter and only child, quickly grew up.

Congratulations on pushing through all of those hurdles to get in your workout! emoticon

My hurdle is that my adult daughter and only child is leaving home for a nearby city. Now, she has come and gone before to undergraduate college dorms, and to D.C. for three years of law school. This time, it is forever, and I can do new things with her bedroom. It's permanent.

SP is a good distraction for me not to fall into emotional eating.

I have focused on my daughter for so long, and not too much on myself until now. She had undiagnosed IBS for a decade, and we finally got the IBS diagnosis in 2011 along with gluten intolerance for her. She can manage her own IBS now with her diet, as there is no cure. I feel confident that it is past time to cut the apron strings.

Welp, I laced up my new shoes and did it! I went to the gym and ran again. Now, I have to tell you that first my daughter told me she didn't want to go, then my ipad thingy wouldn't' work (which has the Couch to 5K program on it), then my daughter decides to go. We are finally on our way, and then she tells me she forgot her clothes. So we have to go back. Man, I had all kinds of reasons to not go today, but, I pushed passed all of them! Actually, quite impressed with myself :) Even though I didn't have the program, I walked 5 laps, then jogged 3 laps, walked 3, than jogged 3. For a total jog of half a mile! Today is NO EXCUSE Monday! I don't remember who suggested the pod cast from that women Renee, but they are great. Thank you!

Hello fellow 40somethings!

Congratulations to all of you that had a scale victory this week! That is awesome!

And to those of you that had a challenging weekend (including me), it's over! Today is a new day. Let's get back on the healthy track today. Instead of focusing on the negatives, what steps can we take today towards our goals?

For me, that means I track all my food, make healthy food choices, and I exercise. Today for my exercise I'm going to incorporate some new techniques from an article I read, incorporating short spurts of higher speeds, just a minute at a time, then 3 minutes at a lower speed I'm used to, then another minute at the higher speed, and so on. That means I don't get to read while on the treadmill. And I'll also be doing a strength training workout today.

Tanja, I'm so sorry about your dog, I hope she is all better soon!

Happy Monday, Indeed… Seems like the weekends always go by too fast!

I was under my calories this weekend, but DH was hogging the living room all day Saturday. It’s where the computer, treadmill, DVD player and wifi tv is, so I got zero treadmill time in. Too cold to walk outside!! But yesterday I was able to get 10k steps in. And I managed to lose 1.5 over the weekend! Woohoo! (I know... you're not supposed to weigh every day, but I can't help it)

Debrn64inma – Sometimes we need a weekend of relaxing! And you got a pot of healthy soup made and plans for the week!

Katescape – Glad you’re feeling better! It must feel good to get moving again.

TanjaT88 – Love your post about running shoes! I think next weekend I’ll get a new pair to help motivate me.

Have a great week everyone!

Happy Monday morning all!!!

PEACELOVEJOY2 - I totally understand! Sometimes it is easier to stay in the rut that has been created by circumstance and tell ourselves it is the circumstance that is the culprit. But, "starting over" isn't necessarily a bad thing. Think about all of the things you discovered the first time around that you never expected. Who is to say you won't find unexpected joys on the second attempt????

And your running shoes are like a brand new friend -- just tossing pebbles at the window of your heart and asking if you can come out and play. Today is a great day to answer their call -- even if it is putting them on and starting with a walk to the corner and back :)

YOU CAN DO IT!!! emoticon

Well, I had a nice relaxing weekend. In fact, too relaxing!!! I didn't get the exercise in that I wanted and I went over on my calories. On the bright side I feel refreshed and rested and ready to start a new week with new goals. I made a big pot of healthy Pasta e Fagioli soup yesterday and planned some other healthy meals for the week and I'm planning to stick with the 10 minute daily exercise challenge again this week. Have a great week everyone!

NESSAGIRL67 thank you for the advice, I don't know why I didn't think about doing some of the lower body exercises just to keep me moving a little more. I had to have a little pep talk with myself today to remind myself of why I was doing this in the first place and to stop making excuses for not doing the right things. That is what I have always done in the past. Tomorrow is a new day and a new restart of the program.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement! They say the hardest door to get through is your own and boy do I believe it. Back in November I started the couch to 5K program. I was almost up to two miles in five weeks. Then, the gym closed or the holiday shutdown, then I was sick for two weeks and then I have just been beating myself up. I ordered a nice pair of Hoka One One running shoes and I have been staring at them for two weeks and haven't taken them out of the box. Have decided that even though I am probably going to have to start the program all over, I am taking my shoes out of the box tomorrow and heading to the gym!

Hi All - just checking in. It sounds like we have had some REAL successes on our team this weekend - working out, eating healthy, getting the scale to FINALLY move (sometimes the scale can be such a MULE!) and taking time out with loved ones, both sick and healthy. :)

My doggie (Gracie-Lou), who is a 70 lb lab, slipped on ice yesterday during a walk and jacked up either her back or her back leg. I am not sure which. She is resting and staying off of it. I have not seen any indicators yet that the emergency vet is needed (stuff is going in (food/water) and coming out, while she can't really walk, she is still moving everything the way it should be, etc.) But, BOY, what a workout!!!! She is definitely NOT what I lovingly call a "pocket puppy" so helping her get around is really challenging. I am just praying that everything stays OK today and the vet doesn't have really bad news tomorrow :( I love her SO much! She is my baby-girl........

My challenge for today is to rest (we were up and down all night), make sure she doesn't move around too much, and give myself permission to not work out. Whenever I work out, she gets really excited and "works out" with me.... twisting on her back, hopping up and down, etc (she is 11, so at least she doesn't start running around the house like she did when she was younger and would get all excited).

I am LOVING the Olympics! It has been a tradition in my family since I was a little girl to watch our favorite events together, and the winter olympics is my FAVORITE! Did you hear why Shawn White (the snowboarder) cut his hair??? He cut it off for charity and donated it to Locks of Love.... how cool!!!! For those of you who don't know anything about him, Shawn White's hair is like Tina Turner's legs or Dolly Parton's boobs -- it is his trademark. It is naturally bright red and he got the nick-name several years ago of "The Flying Tomato"...lol.

Have a good one, everyone. Great work on keeping your eye on the prize and finding balance in your journeys (even when the terrain is difficult).

Good morning 40-somethings! I thought I was not going to see any results on the scale because I hardly have any time to exercise, andI I don't sleep more than six hours (only once did I get in a full eight since joining SP). On the positive side, I ate healthy, drank my full water intake, and I tracked every calorie. Eating all of this:

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Instead of all of this:

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
I lost another pound this week!
emoticon emoticon

Instead of having bad snacks after consuming my limit of calories, I logged in to SP and sipped green tea (my new snack) while I read your posts, SP articles, and SP recipes.
Nessa- emoticon on your weigh in!

Happy Sunday Everyone! I am finally seeing the scale move. I'm down 3 pounds this week. I've been sticking to my workout plan and trying to eat healthier and log in my food and increase my water as well. I'm heading to church this morning and I hope everyone has a great day.

Benny – Way to go on your 40 minute walk.

PEACELOVEJOY2 – I hope all goes well. One bad day isn’t bad. I just start over the next day and try to do better.

SHELOG – hang in there! Sometimes we have a week like that. I’m sure since you’ve been on the treadmill 4 times in a week there will be better results.

ANEWMERRI – Try to take it easy and let your shoulder heal. You can always do some lower body exercises that won’t affect your should. Check in the exercise section of spark people.

PHATLIRPA – Your plans sounds wonderful. Good luck with your new plan and I’m sure you will do well.

SAMUELS15 – congrats on your wonderland goal. I’m so happy for you.

FVUSCMOM – Hope your conference went well.

Phatlipra: Your so sweet. Can't believe how this flu has kicked my butt. I'll eventually turn it around. will keep you posted. Nice work on your workout strategy. Enjoy your trip to the theater.

Today I was able to disinfect my house, despite not being in optimal health. So the rest of the day will be watching the Olympics and cheering on the Boston Bruins. Granddaughter went home this morning, so just hubby & me chilling now. Also just joined a sweet tooth challenge for this month. Wishing each of you continued support and strength on your journey to a healthier you!

Happy Saturday!

Congratulations to Samuels15 on making it to onederland! That is awesome! emoticon

Katescape - I'm so sorry you're ill. Take it easy and get better soon! emoticon

Kate made a good point about being compassionate with ourselves. We need to treat ourselves just like we would treat someone else whom we love that was going through the same thing. What would we say to them? What advice would we give them? I find that very helpful.

What's everyone up to this weekend? Have you been inspired by the Olympics and/or the biggest loser?

For me, I decided this weekend I would still get up at my regular time and get my workout in first thing. So now I've already got an hour in, (and showered! Bonus!) and I don't have to stress about when I'm going to fit it in today. I was whining a bit when I got up, but once I had my workout clothes on, and a cup of coffee in me, I was much better. And bonus, I got a load of laundry done while working out!

Next up on the agenda, going to see a matinee of an oscar nominated movie - Nebraska. Last one on our list to see before the oscars. We try to see most of the movies nominated for best picture each year. We've decided to see them all except Her this year. I think that guy is creepy.

Whatever your weekend plans are, I hope you have some fun and enjoy!

Hi Team,
I am going to a conference today, so I made quinoa last night, and prepped a salad, so I wouldn't get off track with the lunch they will provide. It is Saturday, and I am eating my weekday oatmeal, so I will not eat the empty breakfast bread calories served at the event. emoticon

Good Afternoon 40 somethings~ I am just jumping on now as I have company(granddaughter again, who's is now sick along with my husband, ugh!!) Won't have much time before she's awake, but just wanted to wish everyone well today. Looks like some of you are being extra hard on yourself (HUGS). I just had a major slide at beginning of the week and although I wasn't pleased with myself, I took a different approach this time around. Instead of beating myself up, feeling more guilt & shame, I used compassionate self talk and I really believe it helped me rebound faster.

Phatlipra: wish I had better news to report, but I feel like I've been hit with a hammer...:(

Samuels: So excited to hear of your arrival in Onederland..Congrats!!!!

Happy Friday everyone!

Benny - congrats on the morning exercise! I always feel so accomplished when I get up early to fit in exercise too. It's a great feeling! I feel like it helps me get into the right frame of mind for the day too, I've announced my intention for it to be a healthy day.

Katescape - hope you feel better! That flu does not sound fun.

PeaceLoveJoy - I love your screen name! I can relate to the self sabotage. I think you are on the right track because you are talking about it and questioning why. I think part of this journey, perhaps the most important part, is finding out and dealing with the underlying issues which lead us to overeat. There is a podcast by a lady named Renee Stephens called Inside Out Weight Loss. I find it very helpful. Sometimes I listen to her while I'm on the elliptical or treadmill. She also wrote a book that is great, called Full Filled which is excellent as well. Good luck on your journey!

Shelog - congratulations on getting back on track! I love seeing several days in a row where I've exercised and tracked. Keep on keeping on! Consistency leads to success!

Anewmerri - that is so frustrating when we want to work out but can't! Sometimes my body doesn't want to do what I want it to do, and it makes me so angry! For me it's jazzercise. I have foot problems and whenever I go to jazzercise now, my feet hurt. So I had to stop going. That used to be my favorite exercise. But I am hoping after I lose this weight it will alleviate that pain so hopefully I can get back to it. Good luck this week. I wonder if playing games on your computer would take your mind off eating? I like sudoku and easy crosswords and words with friends. Also I love reading, but I'm sure you already thought of that. Maybe spend some time doing some research on a topic you've always been interested in. Just some random thoughts. I hope you are healing well and being kind to yourself!

So what are everyone's goals for the weekend?

For me, it's to still keep tracking everything, all my food, all weekend, and to keep to my normal exercise schedule. And to not drink any alcohol. I love red wine, and in the past, have indulged in a couple glasses a night on Fridays and Saturdays and Sundays. I have finally realized that although I don't drink to excess, when I do drink, I tend to eat more and get the urge to snack, even late at night. I have also read recently that drinking alcohol slows the metabolism. So, at least until I get to my goal weight, I am forgoing my weekend indulgence except for special occasions. Another goal for my weekend is to finish the book I've been reading - I Am Malala. Fascinating book! Highly recommend!

Hope everyone has a great Friday and weekend!

I am so angry at myself. I had surgery on my shoulder on the 31st and have to have a sling on for 2 weeks so I am not able to do to many exercises. The first 2 days I did good with sticking to the diet but then I had it in my head that I can't exercise so I might as well eat how I want also. I gained 2 pounds in that first week. Instead of saying you can't exercise so you really want to watch how you eat in this time frame, I decided to pig out. I am starting to get frustrated and bored so I eat more. I need to find something to get me back on track for the last week of having to wear this sling.

PEACELOVEJOY2 it sounds like you are depriving yourself of foods you really like. I made a promise to myself when I started this. I do not say " I can't have that" I say to myself " I can have it... or .. I can have all of this for the same calories instead". One day week, I make it a point to have more than my calories. Here is another tip.. you know those HUGE Hershey;s Dark chocolate bars? Well, I keep one of those and if I get that sweet urge and just HAVE to have chocolate, then I break off a section of that. It is actually somewhat good for you and not as many calories as you may think :) I also have a cup of chocolate milk made with sugar free chocolate syrup. You can feel like you are "cheating" without really cheating :)

Think of it this way too ..you did not quit when you had a slip up! emoticon

Hello everyone.
I am disappointed that I gained 2 pounds this week, but that's what happens when I went over my calories a bit and didn't exercise. But I did get off my lazy butt this week and have been on the treadmill 4 times so far. So I am hoping for a better number next week.

I hope you are all doing well.

If you're tired of always starting over, then stop giving up.

I am not sure what I am doing to myself. I have been doing well with exercising and eating well. Then, one night I don't exercise. I get extremely mad at myself and eat 5 ice cream sandwiches! Do I have screws loose somewhere? I am losing weight and the scale moves down when I follow through, but then I just freak out on myself. How do I stop the madness? I am back on track today and doing well. I just don't understand.

Phatlirpa: Glad your back on track and have found more ideas on how to motivate yourself. I don't think your idea is silly at all. Sounds like it will work great. good luck with meeting your goals today. d/t being down w/ the flu, I did a chair workout w/ coach Nicole. It was a slight challenge only because I'm so weak. Actually heading off for a little nap.

Benny: Congrats on your brisk walk. (slightly jealous).

Katescape - congratulations on being 6 years smoke free! That is awesome!

Netsue - congratulations on your exercise streak!

Val - glad you survived that freezing ordeal! Yikes!

Nessagirl and Creativeheart - good luck with your new goals!

I feel like I am back on track now. I went off the rails a bit on Sunday and Monday, but have had a couple days now back on track and I feel back in control.

Something new I'm trying for motivation is I put a pic of myself at my goal weight on my fridge, and I also taped a tiny cut out of myself in workout clothing at my goal weight (kind of like those press on paper dolls) onto my deodorant in my medicine cabinet in the bathroom. So I look at that first thing in the a.m. every day and I feel like it gets my head in the right place for the day. It's a reminder that I can do this, I can be successful. I know it sounds so silly but it is really effective! I can now bring that picture to mind whenever I am wavering in my decision making. Like when I don't want to work out!

My goals for today are to track my food, workout 40 more minutes including strength training, and to read my book for at least 30 minutes.

What are your goals for the day?

Fvuscmom: Thanks for the neti pot suggestion. Next time I'm at the pharmacy I'll check out the deposable kind. Surprisingly, quitting smoking was much easier than balancing my diet/health choices. I finally reached a point when I found the smell of it revolting. I have been after my husband for years to follow suit, he has had several failed attempts, but this year has tried again and is 19 day smoke free. I am hoping it sticks. I am proud of his efforts!

Iwannagoat: keep trying, don't ever give up, it can be done, but it's not easy. Until I get out to the store, a nice steamy bowl of water sounds good, gonna try it now!

Congrats! I need to work harder at quitting smoking. I can quit for months and then somehow I give in. I agree w/ the neti pot suggestion, it was a little strange when I first tried it, but it works! Also inhaling steam helps open nasal passages.

Katescape,
Congratulations on six years as a non-smoker. That must have been harder than adopting better eating and exercise habits. You have got this! emoticon
Try the netipot nasal rinse for your nose and throat comfort. It works for me every time. They sell disposable nasal rinse bottles if you don't want to get the netipot. I tried those first before it became a part of my wellness routine. emoticon Feel better soon!

Today is my 6 year anniversary being smoke free! Still under the weather, throat is killing me, can't hardly breathe through my nose...still a mess. One bright spot, not as achy this morning, hoping that holds up the rest of the day.

Have a good one everybody & keep pushing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good morning 40 somethings. Hope everyone is having a great week. More snow here in the north east yesterday with another storm coming this weekend. I can't wait for spring. I've really kicked it up with the exercise this week. between my spark activity tracker and the 10 minute daily exercise challenge it's helped to keep me motivated!

It sounds like the weather sure is messing everyone up!

I'm making February better than January. I really relaxed last month but need to get back to it if I want to make my goal by the end of March. I am on a 4 day streak for exercising so that's a good start!

Keep at it everybody.

Hi Val, My body temp just plunged hearing about your ordeal last night. We keep a hide a key outside and have used it on several occasions. Not sure how your bff cop feels about it, but maybe you can ask him for future mishaps. emoticon Job on keeping it together!

Hello I had a bad night last night went to warm up the car because it was going to get about 20 below here and I lock myself out. Thankfully my bff husband is a cop in town and came and got me in. I only had a sweat jacket on at is was probably like 15 below then. But the good news is I didn't binge afterwards which is a big step for me.

Good Luck on all the goals every one set for them selfs. Mine is to drink more water and exercise on the wii for 30 min a day as you can see by the temps no exercising outside unless you count the sprint to the car.

Had a rough few days, I posted about it on my blog. Check it out if interested. I love seeing all the support & sharing on this site, but especially on this team. I am almost back to my normal self (physically) and look to become more active here again. Shame can make you hide, but confessions will set you free! Being brave enough to post on my blog, I am now empowered again and feel free as well.

Wishing you all a great day! emoticon emoticon

My Goal this week is also to log my food and water and stay at or under my calories and other items measured such as carbs and saturated fats. Eating ..... Five veggies/ fruit isreally helping that goal. I am not adding exercise yet. As I feel I need to really get a grasp of why I am overeating and making really regularly bad food choices. Slow and steady and logging makes me really think ........ do I want to eat that?

Hello everyone! Wow what a busy February so far. I have started a new challenge for February! I'm trying to make sure I log my food in and stay within the calaorie range. I also incorporated strength training twice a week with step aerobics. I am stuck again but I want to give it my all to get the scale moving again.
