Hi all,

My biggest weakness is eating in front of the television and snacking at night. Since I started on Spark, I have tried to make an effort in eating at the kitchen table (forced family to do as well) and if I have to snack, I try healthy snacks...my new found favorite is frozen grapes. If it wasn't for discovering this site, I don't know how long I could continue "comfort" eating. There is so much info that it is hard to take it all in, but I do love the site.

Hi everyone I just Started October 23. I LOVE THIS WEB SITE!!! Talk about inspiration. You can spend hours reading what others say and looking around. I am thrilled with the trackers. Didn't know how to do that before and on here it is so easy. All I can say it thank god for a place like this to go. I have already noticed a change in myself. I dont think I would have been able to do this without you. I send my love and appreciation to everyone for your support. emoticon

I am at day 3 and loving this webpage. The tracker is really helping me. It's overwhelming the information here but I wish I would have found this site a long time ago.

one of the hardest things is paying attention to what you put in your mouth and the serving sizes..... so if you have to use the nutritional tracking... it really makes me think about sizes and also adding fruits and veggies and dairy. so try it... it has so far helped me.... only on day 7 but going strong!

All the BEST,
Kathy

Hi everyone
Great tips here! I am not really new, but I am back! I joined 2 years ago, kept up with it for a while, then dropped off and continued to gain weight. I'm back now and determined to lose. My biggest problem seems to be being consistent and sticking with it. That's why I've decided to actually visit the forums and get support. I'm hoping your comments and suggestions can help me stay focused and lose weight. Right now i feel like I am spending more time on the website than being active! It takes a while to get around, but there is SO much good info here!!
Wish me luck! emoticon

Hi Catche22, Welcome to Sparkpeople! I don't deprive myself of sweets. I just reduce the portion. With ice cream, I use a small compote dish that gets quite full with just a half to three quarters cup of ice cream.

I love sweets also, I have switched to a once a week treat of sorbet or a frozen slightly diluted lemonade ( freeze lemonade in a shallow glass pan, stirring up the frozen crystals every 1-2 hours)Also, juice popsicles or frozen fruit chunks are good. It is full of sugar, but less fat or no fat. Good Luck!

I am brand new to Spark People and I have to admit that my weakness is anything sweet, but especially ICE CREAM!!!!!! I really need to lose at least 25-30lbs. and ice cream will not help me. If anyone out there has a tip to help me I would be very grateful.

Hi 40 somethings....I will be turning 50 in October & decided it's about high time I lost my inner tube, turkey neck & wings (you know, the ones that just hang there under your arm?!) Need to lose approx. 25-ish pounds. I came across this site & think it's incredible! I was looking for some sort of calorie countier/carb counter/everything counter & found y'all! So I've decided to try & work out a low carb plan. Kinda cheating since I'm not a big potato or bread eater in the first place but MAN I did not realize all the other carbs I had been eating! At least with the nutrition tracker, if I am request to make my famous lasagna..I can have a little & know exactly where I stand for the rest of the day.
I am a mother of 3 grown kids, 2 extra kids ie. daughter & son-in-law, 5 grandsons (no granddaughters..yet) I have a very neurotic & loving Cockatiel, who is my alarm clock..singing the Andy Griffith theme song at the crack of dawn. My husband doesn't think I need to lose weight, he's a bona fide "chubby chaser" & loves me just as I am. Yet I need to shed some pounds for myself, my health & what better way to get a new wardrobe?!
My main challenge is snacking at night while watching t.v. I have messed it up the last 2 nights but am gonna keep on keeping on. Just made a sweet & salty snack mix that will hopefully keep me on track. Anyhoo....just wanted to introduce myself to the ranks emoticon

Look at your tabs, like my tools, healthy lifestyles, your health, community, and log out. Under the healthy lifestyles tab there is a tab that says spark teams. Click on it, and choice a category and browse the different teams till you find the ones you want. Then click on it and you will see where it says join team.

Hi, I am Barb, I actually started back in March(the end). I did well for a couple of weeks and then I got extremely busy. I seem to do that a lot. I can focus for a week or two and then I quit trying or I sabatage myself. I also like the nutrition page that breaks down your diet into the categories. I can see where I definitely need to make changes.

Hi to all,
I have been a member of Spark for a while. I have also been trying to loose weight for a while.
I am starting over yet again. I have again committed myself to the Fit for Life program and so far I have lost 3lbs but It does not reflect on my weight because I went up 3lbs and came back down.
I am looking forward to working with you all and I know I was doing better last year when I was logging my food and working out twice a day everyday.
good luck to you all.

Being stck in a rut is not new to me. It seems I can lose 10-15# then pleateau. You didn't mention exercise. I started to walk 30 minutes 4-5 times a week and then saw the wt go down again. As far as the outings, I have seen different ways to prepare for social events. Drinking a full glass of water or eating something really satisfying (like sugar-free chocolate pudding) before you go can be extremely helpful. Good luck

Hi There!

I am on day 5 I think and I guess my learning is to always have something to eat with me. A small snack of some kind. Hunger sneaks up on me and I can really feel my blood suger droppping. Without a bar or some nuts in my purse, I end up wasting good calories on bad food.

There's lots to see and do here. So far I like it!

I never use the meal planners, but I am pretty faithful to enter in all that I eat. I really like that you can enter in whole meals that you frequently eat. it saves a lot of time. The button at the bottom where it breaks down the nutrition information is great! You click on it after you have entered in all of your meals for the day. I like seeing if I have stayed in a healthy range for carbs, protein, fat, and calories.

Hi everyone! This is my 2nd day using SP and already I have found that it's easier to not use the meal planners. I decided to just track what I normally eat everyday for the first week to get an idea of what I really need to focus on changing. Although, just by joining SP and spending time reading info, blogs, etc, I am more conscious of what I'm choosing to eat. Made it through 2 days so far & did my workouts last night. I need to adjust my schedule so that I work out earlier in the evening, but other than that, it was great.

I tried to use the meal plans and make a grocery lists for this week. But it was challenging. I found a meal I liked except I wanted to substitute something for the tortilla chips. There were no alternatives I wanted so I had to scrap the meal plan and make my own.

So I just made a menu by hand that seemed to fit the guidelines but really I'm winging it right now. I'm tracking my foods and hope to get the nutrients I need.

Any suggestions would be great.

9th day with sparks. My nutrition tracker is a big eye opener. I looked at my results for the week and I am either over or under...Finally yesterday I made some progress and I was right in the zone across the board...It's really easy to hit the calories for the day by eating too much fat-and i dont even use butter, mayo, salad dressings- but, its hard to hit the calories for the day when you reduce your fat intake. Cognitively, I know its because a fat=7 calories, and carbs and protein=3 calories. But, in practice...its difficult.

You'll find almond butter near the peanut butters. (Maybe in the organic foods too?)
I have to watch it in the late afternoons. I think my body is wired to eat dinner at 4:30, but my family thinks 6:30 is better. So I can easily munch most of my dinner, before hand. Sucks doesn't it? You can buy frozen salmon filets at Costco very reaonably and just microwave it for 3-5 minutes with a little seasoning. It comes out beautifully! Of course fresh is the best, but Costco's product isn't bad.

Hah! I am in a rut. I eat my 1/2 cup pain yogurt, flax seed, 1/2 c. frozen blueberries, 7 chopped almonds, cinnamon and splenda. Then I eat 1/2 c eggwhites with sauteed veggies in them (usully spinach & zuchinni or whatever's left over) and 2 T. non fat cheese. I snack on 20 almonds. I pack myself a baggie of carrots and an orange. For lunch - yes I eat a ton of calories in the morning. I eat a salad w/ 3oz protein (chx breast, pork chop or whatever is left over from dinner the night before). I will often times have a 60 cal oat wasa cracker with lunch. Or I'll save the wasa for snack with a TB of almond butter on it. Sometimes I'll pop a 100cal Orville Redenbacker popcorn for a snack. For dinner, 3oz of protein (I try to eat salmon at least 3 times a week) and 2 huge portions of veggies like broccolli, brussels sprouts, roasted veggies, salad, etc.. Every few days, I'll heat up a cup of milk for dessert and put in a 1/2 tsp vanilla and splenda. Yummm. I average around 1500 calories a day. (I cut it back to 1250 when I got stuck). We hardly ever go out - sorry, I haven't been hooked on spicy wings! We do buy a costco roasted chicken every week though, and I could easily eat 1/2 of it if I don't carve it up and put it in the freezer. We also seem to get invited on lots of social gatherings. They seem extremely tough to me. I try, but I have a tough time with portion control on these events. I guess weekends are pretty hard, cuz I don't get to stick to my routine.

All right then. 125 crunches a day. Just remember, this was your idea!!!
How many calories are you eating? I got SOOOO frustrated a couple of weeks ago, I had had it. So I decided to really hit the gym hard. I plateaued and by the end of that week, I was exhausted and ended up eating like Miss Piggy. (Maybe worse than Miss Piggy). Anyway - somebody clued me in that I wasn't eating enough to support the kind of workouts I was doing. It's taken me a couple of weeks to start getting the calories under control, but I feel like I might just start losing again. At least the scale isn't climbing every day. I tend to do better if I err on the side of protein too. I am just realizing that white flour/carbs really mess with my system. I do WAAYYY better on whole grains and complex carbs.
So I eat a pretty stable diet - even calories for all three meals and I definitely have vegetables, egg whites, dairy, fruit and nuts for breakfast. Protein, veggies and complex carb for lunch and usually protein and two veggies for dinner. Hope that helps a bit!

I'm sorry if this sounds like a pity party but I've had such a time.I work out 1hr a day,I don't eat junk (but I love my Cool Ranch Dortitos on the weekends)Yes I do need a buddy and the sit ups gives me that extra edge because I can actually do one hundred but I choose to break them up.I need to decrease my food intake (I have been doing slimfast in the morning and yogurt, piece of fruit for lunch and a sensible dinner) can you give a suggestion.

Hey! You lost weight in the last 6 months? Time for a turnaround on that attitude kiddo! You DID NOT get surgery. YAYAYAYAY!!!!! YOU CAN DO THIS WITHOUT SURGERY!!!! You are healthy, fiesty and angry. Take a good look at your anger and let it become your motivation. So what do ya say? Join me for 50 crunches today? We can start our own little thread if you like and we can keep each other accountable? Could just try it for the week?
You can do this! If I can do this, anybody can do this!!!!

I lost a 1/2" last week. To be quite honest, I didn't measure myself until a couple of weeks ago - and I've been exercising and make life adjustments to my diet for almost 2 years now. Just recently, I got interested in crunching. Just to give myself a challenge and to try to start a new habit before I go to bed. Figured it couldn't hurt if I thought of it like brushing my teeth and picking out my clothes for tomorrow.

Hey there! The stickers worked great at first. Now I'm tracking 'em on my S.P. "other goals" page. I love getting points for them. Crazy huh? I might make myself a chart to put sickers on a again - I just try to keep myself interested, or at least giggling while I'm shrinking my middle! Have fun with it! That's the most important piece.
