Hi Courtney! I am also trying to quit smoking and lose weight for my wedding.

Have you looked into the electronic cigarettes at all? My fiance and I just got them. The nice thing is that you can still have the nicotine but there is absolutely no tar or any of the bad stuff...just a vapor. They make the filters with high, medium, low and no nicotine so that you can wean yourself off the drug.

Hi everyone! My name is Courtney and I'm also new to this team (and SparkPeople) and I just wanted to drop in and introduce myself!! My news year resolution is/was NOT to lose weight...or even get "healthy" for that matter!! My New Years resolution is actually to quit smoking!! I figured I might as well get on Spark People and try to knock out all the bad habits at once ;) That, plus I just got engaged and I really do want to look amazing on my wedding day!! So not only am I going to be here asking, begging, and pleading for everyone's help to lose weight, I'm hoping you can all help me with my original resolution to quit smoking!!

Anyways, hi again and I hope I can help some of you as much as ya'll can help me!!

So...did anyone get anything for Christmas that/will help them with their journey? Anyone get anything that might put a temporary damper on things?

Hi everyone, I'm Jessica. I just thought I'd introduce myself since I'm new here. Looking forward to losing this extra person I'm carrying around and getting healthy this year. I've got a long ways to go but I'm hoping that joining this group will help motivate me. Anyone have any suggestions on what I should do first? I know I need to focus on diet and exercise, but what kinds of diet/exercise plan? Should I follow a certain one to the T or just do things in moderation? Thanks!

Hi everyone! I am new and just wanted to say hi! This is actually my second time using spark people, I left last time because I didn't think that it was working, but I think it wasn't working for me because I didn't get involved in discussions and groups as much as I should have. I am determined this time that I am going to make more of an effort and make it work for me this time!!

Hey all. I don't remember how many of you were here the last time I used this consistently, but as long as I used this tool, I was able to take weight off and keep it off. Unfortunately, I got away from it and put back on some of the weight. But now I'm happy to announce that I got engaged! And now along with all the preparations, I want to prepare myself physically as well. The goal is 60 lbs by June 25 of 2011. Hopefully this time around with everyone's help I can stick with it.

I can lie and say that I don't know how I got to be this fat. But I know that I sooooo love food. I eat when I'm emotional, bored, or just because. Okay, so my illness has a little to do with it. but only a little.

Hoping you all good luck in your efforts.

What is the 8 week challenge and how do you sign up for it? This site is so big it's hard to get a grasp on everything.

By the way, I work at a bookstore and am priviledged to get to "borrow" books...so I borrowed "The Spark" and was looking through the pages of success stories and found someone I know (well who my sister knows)! How cool is that!

Goals
180- buy new jeans
170-look real good in the new jeans
160-buy a dress
150-buy a swim suit
140-Go on a shopping spree and get a makeover
Better yet I have this tattoo on my tummy right above hip bone and I would like to be able to see it without lifting my stomach. Sometimes I think it flew away.

Hi everyone, my name is Kelli and I am new. I am from Alabama and need to lose b/w 50-60lbs. I have a great husband that wants to support my weight loss, but it is hard to take him seriously when he is sitting there skinny as a rail telling me I can do it while he is shoving pizza in his mouth. So I am looking forward to meeting people that have the same obstacles that I have.

Thanks Rachael- something that i've found that helps me with my late night munchies is the 100 calorie bags of popcorn. Its become like my new routine lol.
I am living in Bennington,VT but I'm originally from California. I'm still getting used to these damn cold winters here! It's 10 degrees out today.
I'm planning on going out on the job hunt today and then hit up the gym at like 5 for some cardio/yoga. Hope you all have a good day!

I love that so may of you are doing BL competitions at work. I wanted to start a competition at my workplace but nobody was truly interested (they all liked the idea but then thought about actually having to do the work and opted out..ugh...hello...how does that change anything?!?).
Then I thought about doing the competition thing virtually with some friends but event that didn't seem to work out so well. Oh well it's more important that I lose the weight than that I get others to lose the weight as well (but my golly I sure hope my weight loss journey inspires those around me to get healthy as well).
Anyway I think it was Sassie that was asking about Jillian Michael's website. I would say that if you can afford it, it's an awesome option. The women on there are so supportive (infact I am still friends with plenty of them even though I am no longer a member of the site), plus you can get free workouts, shopping lists, recipes, and advice from all types of people (a psychologist, chef, make-up artist)...which is pretty cool. Honestly though...it's like anything else in life, you will get out of it what you put in...so athough the site comes with my hieghest recommendation I think it's a personal choice (hee hee... how diplomatic of me).

So... just cause I am noisy (or personable...take your pick) where is everyone from?

Hey Jessfit I too have the problem of eating at night. I do so well during the day but as night falls I am on the prowl. I don't get off work until 5 go home make my hubba dinner do the dishes and after that I don't feel like doing anything but sit on the couch and eat lol. I need to find a way to get energy after work and go home and clean and do laundry and just keep myself busy. Right now I don't see that happening but who knows, maybe the energy fairy will come and bop me on the head with her wand. Good luck to you, from women to women I hope and pray that you get that hot bod and show your ex what hes missing lol. emoticon

Hi guys, I've been a memeber of this group for quite a while but haven't ever really participated. But I really want that to change.
I'm a teacher and my school is doing a Biggest Loser challenge starting Jan 11 until March 17. I don't want to wait that long to get started so I'm starting now.

Sassie-yeah it is tough, i'm just trying to turn it into a positive and make some changes for myself, and I'm not gunna lie it'd feel really nice to get a hot bod and prove my ex wrong lol.
Welcome Jess lol, I'm jess as well. I guess I won't have to worry about forgetting your name haha. congrats on the success with jillian michaels website. I'm sure you can be just as successful here.
Hopefully we can all support each other through this challenge of weight loss. I have struggled with it since middle school, and unfortunately let the scale climb since then. Definitely time to change that! Yesterday was good but I slipped up at night, which tends to be my time of weakness. It's getting to be that time again but I'm trying to keep myself busy on here and then read some and head to bed. Hope you all have had a good day!

Hey Everyone,
So I have had a sparknote page for over a year or more, but honestly I've never really used it. Actually about the time I created this account I also joined Jillian Michaels website and so that was pretty much why I never check in here. Anyway, I was a member of Jillian's website for over a year and lost a total of 130. Unfortunately though this past year I could no longer afford the membership (because among many other things my BIL passed away and I moved in with my sister to help her raise her kids...and all of a sudden had massive bills to pay)and I gained back 45lbs (ugh). My goal for 2010 is to get back on track and finally reach my ultimate fitness goals of weighing 160 and running a marathon. The reality is though...I work best when I have the right support, so I hope you all don't mind me jumping right in a joining this group! I am excited to be of service and give as much support as I can.

Jess

Hi everyone,
My name is Jess, I'm 23 and I live in Vermont. I'm fairly new to sparkpeople but i've been a member for a while, I just haven't been very successful staying active for more then a few weeks at a time. I'm hoping to turn that around now. I just got out of a 3 and a half year relationship, and was engaged. It's been rough to deal with but I think it's opened up a lot for me as well. I want to start thinking about myself for once and make my health and wellbeing the priority. I look forward to getting to know all of you and the support and motivation we can offer each other!

Just wanted to say hello!!! I am not new to Spark People, but have started over. I have gained 70 pounds back in the past 18 months or so, and I feel like I have hit rock bottom.

I look froward to getting to know you and losing weight in 2010!!!

My SO and I delayed our Christmas so we could get everyone elses gifts in time for the holiday, but I love it because it is giving me time to think of really awesome things to ask for. I may ask for a digital scale to go alone with the jump rope and stability ball I've already asked for. :)
Welcome to the new folks!

Good Morning everyone.. This site is great.. I started at 208.4lbs and am down to 186.4 is what the scale read today... I love the fact that it tracks all the food I eat and that I can track my fitness on here.. I also like the fact that you do get support from everyone even if they are complete stranges.. We are all on the same path just in different step.

That's how I feel about this site. I get to track everything and I also get great encouragement from people that don't even know me. I love it and I tell people about it as often as I can. You can do it!
