Hi all.
I'm new to SparkPeople. A friend of mine is a member and she recommended it to me. I'm really excited to get back on track and start losing weight.

I'm 26 and weigh more now than I ever have before. It is time to get back down to a healthy and fit weight. It is going to be a long journey, but at least now I have taken the first step!

I also vowed to never again go over 200 and recently found myself just where you did. Realizing I had to do something now I finally came back to spark and have lost 3 pounds...with a whole lot more to lose!! I am proud of my small acomplishment and am motivated to go all the way this time.

Sooo happy to be back!! emoticon

One way I reward myself and try to take my focus off how big I still am METALLADY is to do other things that make me feel attractive. Like maybe get a manicure or pedicure or for a bigger goal I might get my hair done. Or maybe buy myself a new eyeshadow or something. Things that make me feel cute that don't have to do with my size. That works for me because I enjoy things like that......but everyone just has to find what works for them.

I am so glad to come to a place where I can talk to people about how I want to lose weight and make it a permanent change in my life. I would have to agree with feeling overwhelmed with having so much weight I'd like to lose. I know small goals are key but it is hard to keep it off your mind. I find lately (I've gained 25lbs in the last year) I've been feeling super self conscious about how I look. I'm sure its actually been for my whole life since I have never really been any smaller than 170. I'm 5'8 so height is helping me out. When I look at pics from then I say hey I looked great, but I remember feelings from then and I didn't feel that way. I'm rambling now.. my question is does anyone have any ideas or things they do to reward themselves and feel good about losing weight and not just thinking they are still big all the time. If that makes sense.
Lor

I agree... it seems hard to have that much weight to lose, but the fact that you are taking this step before the problem gets bigger - that is the real important part!

I just wanted to say thank you to all of you for being here. It's hard to be in the position of needing to lose this much weight, but it helps to know there are others. Keep it up because we all need each other.

Hi welcome to all the new girls! :-) i am relatively new as well this is my 3rd week. i have lost 9lbs so far. I love SP and this is definitely something I could do forever. It really is a lifestyle change. Knowing that if you just do little changes, even just one thing at a time, it WILL make a difference.
I just started counting calories, my first week. and drinking the recommended water. Then I started just walking a few extra minutes everyday with my little dog. It has made such a difference in how I feel. Now I am getting those old dusty exercise videos out cuz i feel inspired just from what's happened so far! :-)

We can do this girls...just keep trying :-)

Hi girls (and guys if there are any)! I'm new to this site, but it seems like a wonderful weigh for those who are overweight to help motivate one another. I've lost 6 lbs in the past week! You guys are right...it's so exciting to know you're getting closer to your goal. Thanks!

I guess since this is general discussion I think I'll post my question here. I've been known to stop watches. Seriously. I wear them and they stop in a month or so. New battery. Month later. New Battery. So anyway. I had this great idea to get a heart rate monitor. It worked great. For about a week. Now every time I put it on, it tells me I'm dead. Does anyone have a remedy for this?

i started at 242 and had no energy either. I started with walking. I would walk as far as i could take, some days it would only be 10-15 minutes. Each week, I would build on it. Now, I'm running 3x a week! Also, slowly try to change your diet too. For example, drink 8 glasses of water/day for three weeks, then add something on top of it - like eating fruits or vegetables with every meal. Baby steps will get you there. Never compare yourself to someone else. And make it fun. You'll get that energy in no time

Start out slow. Change some eating habits and start a workout routine. Even if only 10 minutes... do 3 10 minutes of cardio each day and you still start to notice the difference!

Help! exercise problem.
I am logging my exercise into spark and I do about 40 minutes of swimming (breaststroke) and when I enter that it clocks the cals burned at over 700, which I find hard to believe! I'm not a fast swimmer, it takes me 40 minutes to do 40 lengths, so I put general swimming instead which brings it down to just over 400 cals burned. Does anyone know if you really do burn over 700 cals if you swim breaststroke for 40 mins no matter how fast you're swimming?

We can do this!

Hi! I'm new to SparkPeople - I've only been here a few days now, and I already love it! I have a friend who introduced me to it, and we're trying to keep each other motivated. I know for me, I finally got to this point in my life (mentally) where I can finally motivate myself without support, but I know there are others out there who need support... so if there's anyone, feel free to message me or add me or keep up with my blog (that I'll start soon). I'm more than willing to be there for you!
and I'd love to tell everyone how I'm doing with my goal, but the scale that my roommates and I had broke, and none of us have spare money to buy a new one for a while. I'll let you know when I find out my progress! :)
Best of luck for the rest of you! Even if I don't know you, I'm thinking of you and hoping for the best! :)

Hey there. I really love that there is a place to go to chat about...well anything. I'm down 4 pounds and hoping I keep going the same direction. I usually do well and then gain it all back so I'm hoping to keep it off this time!!! Any tips would be great.

Hey guys...
There was a website someone posted probably about a year ago that had nutrition information for pretty much any major chain restaurant. Anyone remember what that was?
Thanks

OMG!!!!! I have put on 20lbs!! ON! that's the wrong way completely. It's my own fault for not keeping track of my calories and thinking that simply by choosing the right foods, I would somehow lose weight. So over the last 6 months I have gone up by a whopping amount. Can you imagine? Why can't I lose weight that quickly?

Plus my sparkbuddy has left sparks and now I feel support less.

On the plus side, I have knuckled down in the last two weeks and lost over 4lbs. I am on holiday (in the states) next month and if I don't fit on the rides I don't know what I'm going to do!

We can do this!

I have been doing the spark thing for a while now and hanging in rather well. Recently I have started working evenings. This means I need to eat dinner before I go in (eating about 4pm) and when I get home about 10pm I am STARVING!!! But it's so close to bed time I don't want to eat.

Do you guys have any ideas about healthy snacks I could take to work and eat on the run? Fiber One bars are good, but they can get a little pricey and string cheese doesn't exactly do well in a desk drawer. Any ideas would be wonderfully helpful!

Thanks y'all.

I am also new to spark pages... I have never even tried to lose weight before and I am so pumped at how I am feeling already. It is cool how this is set up - even on the days when I go over my goals I still feel good that I logged it down. I am already feeling a difference and feeling good. Hooray for Spark People!!!

Hi everyone, I am new to Sparkpeople. I am definitely looking for some support and motivation. I have a lot of weight to lose and I just want to feel like myself again. Right now I feel like a prisoner in my own body! I have two little girls and I want to be a mother they can look up to, be proud of and I want to show them a healthy lifestyle.

Hola! My name is LJ. I am 21 and way, way overweight. I am super busy with a full time job, going to school full time, coaching cheerleading, etc. With me being so busy, I got to be fat bc it's "so much easier" to just grab fast food. Eating fast food three times a day, 7 times a week has definitely gotten me to where I am now. This is so overwhelming. I am so stressed out. I feel like the harder I work in the gym, the more weight I gain. I wish I had a magic wand that could make me a size 2 again. I am looking for an accountability partner. Someone who needs to lose 60 like myself and someone who is strong and can support and would want the same from me. Message me if you'd like to be my buddy.. If you would like to offer any type of support though, I am always open to it..I need all of the encouragement I can get. :)
