Just wanted to pop in and give some support. I've broken 200 and stayed under for over a month now. I know at times it seems impossible (just like the 195 mark for me right now), but it can happen!

I hope everyone had a good weekend. Reading over the posts from the past couple of days, it seems like exercise in one form or another was enjoyed by a lot of folks. It has been crazy hot here in VA for the past several days. On our way to VA Beach to pick up some new fish for the aquarium, our thermometer was reading 105. The heat tied a record from 1918. Imagine living with it back then with no A/C or probably even ice! While I can run in some extremes, I did not run on our hottest days. My shins probably needed the time to recover anyway.

Setting goals seems to have worked well for me in the past. Setting more frequent goals is my plan. I still have the 34" jeans in my closet I was wearing only about a year ago. One of my main goals is getting those comfortably back on.

For this week I'm concentrating on hydrating, logging in all of my food, getting 3 runs done and strength training 2 or 3 times.

Kelly-Your race sounds awesome! I can't wait to run a 5K again. For now, it's just getting the shins (and rest of me) back into running shape.

Babs-It sounds like you are working hard to meet your goals. Great job!

Leag-It's hard to believe July is almost over. Going back to work after a break is hard.

Evelyn-Great to hear your cast is off. Swimming is great exercise and low-impact on the joints.

Hey team! Having an awesome week here! Eating what I planned, working out hard, drinking my water, writing it all down. I hope it is going well for you too!

Even my weekend is going well! Yahoo!

Mandymac2 - we sound like we have the same amount to go and the same age kid!!! 6 years old.

Patrick - you can tell you are a veteran runner, because you are not stressin' about those shins. This sounds like something you might have said to me in the past... "In time, young grasshopper, in time..." Now I say it to you.

Craft - I think quite a few of us know what its like to be down and out in the running department. It might not be as severe as arthritis, but I know how discouraging it can be when you can't do the preferred form of exercise for yourself. I commend you for seeing past those obstacles and keeping your eyes on your goals. Great for you!

As for me, I just finished my crazy 3 mile trail run this morning. We literally ran over the river and through the woods...it was an adventure to say the least. I blogged about it today...

I'm back from vacation as of yesterday. We left sunday, spent all week in San Antonio & waterpark in Newbraunfels on thursday. It was awesome. I didn't have the time/energy to exercise, but we walked ALL DAY every day, so it counted. I only gained .2 lbs, which I don't consider bad for a vacation where we ate out nearly every meal. I'll blog & add pics later.

I'm jealous of all you runners and hikers! I finally have the cast off my foot, but it still is slow going! Swimming is the best exercise for me, no impact on the feet! Arthritis in the feet is not fun, I don't wish it on anyone, (well maybe one guy at work)hehehe. I hope you all have a great weekend, I am going to try hard and track my food this weekend. That seems to be my biggest challenge!!

Good afternoon Breakers!!! emoticon

I am excited to weigh-in on Sunday. I recently joined the IN/OUT challenge and this is my second weigh-in. I am anticipating a great big "DOWN and IN". emoticon

I was so happy this morning. It was 81 degrees at 5:40am. I was hiking the mountain and the weather was cool. I live in Vegas and usually it is 92 degrees at 5:30am. I hike the mountain every morning and the cooler the weather, the more pleasing the hike. emoticon emoticon emoticon

When it is about 70 degrees in the mornings, I sing to the mountains! :)

Good morning! Congrats to the new members, as well as the veterans, who are close to getting under the 200 mark. On the burner for today is some quality time with Savannah and a quality run this afternoon. I'm still working on pushing through shin splints. They will clear up, it'll just take time. Still need to work on adding more strength training.

Hi everyone.
I think I'm a bit late discovering this team! I'm only 2.4lbs away from breaking the 200lb mark! Yay!

It's been a long journey, well it seems that way! I cannot wait to get into Onederland.

I'm thinking of getting a new tattoo to mark the occassion & to remind myself to never ever go back to where I am now.

Hi!

Just joined this group. I'm 9 pounds away from onederlander and hope to be there in a few weeks. I haven't seen onederlander since before I had my second child who is now 6! Really want to leave the 200's once and for all!

Hey everyone!
Sorry, I have been missing the last few days... I have been traveling and my internet access has been limited.
It looks like everyone is doing great! So here's my quote for today....
"All growth is a leap in the dark, a spontaneous unpremeditated act without the benefit of experience."
Henry Miller

I love this one, because I oftentimes am really hard on myself about this weight loss journey I am taking... but now I am motivated because of the concrete steps I have made...and I'll just keep working towards my goals until I get this thing together....

ALL in all, I most celebrate, even the smaller accomplishments!
You should do the same....
Have a great day Sparkers!

Jen - glad to see you joining us!! Yep we have all experienced that - letting life 'get in the way' but you are on your way and we're here for you as you need us!!

Kelly - how exciting that sounds!!! When is this race?? The saying goes 'success breeds success' so you are doing it and we're all proud of you here!!

Leag -- good luck on getting past that number!!

Patrick -- see you're getting a routine figured out -- it just takes time!!

Craft - you will get back at it too -- I wished I had a swimming place close during this hot, hot weather...it is a great exercise for people like me with arthritis! So come on we want to see that ticker MOVE!!

Im' HAPPY to say that I DID lose 1 lb. this week -- finally stalled the train and went back instead of UP!! I was just looking to have it stay the same or down so I'm happy it decided DOWN was a choice!!! (sound like I Have no control over it, don't I?)

I just read back through last weeks' posts. Everybody sounds so motivated it makes me want to get going too! I had a good weekend, went swimming first thing in the AM, and that seemed to give me lots of energy for the day. I wish I could do that every day, but I have to be at work at 7:30. No way I could swim before then.
Have a great week everyone!

Good morning! I work later today so I have some time this morning to get some stuff done around the house. I'm excited to be running again. I had planned to run today but my legs are still a bit sore. Tomorrow, Thurs and Sat. should work well for run days. I think I'll do some strength work instead.

Congrats to everyone getting close to breaking the 200 mark.

Kelly, it sounds like you are about to enter the wonderful world of adventure racing!

Hey guys. Just dropping by to say that I think I got myself in deep with my next race. (Gulp) I signed up for a trail run (3 miles) and I'm thinking trail as in mulch, gravel, grass, dirt....well, someone informed me that they heard you cross the Ashtabula river. And at times the water can get up to your waist!!!

What have I gotten myself into???

There is a 3 mile trail and an 8 mile trail.

Lord, please let the water be on the 8 mile trail and not mine.!!!

I weighed myself and I was at 209 - only 9 pounds away from breaking 200!

I just might reach it this week knowing I have to run through deep water...my stomach is already in knots and I'll be visiting the bathroom a lot!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Went for a run on the "new" treadmill today. I just love it! I am 9 lbs away from breaking 200... have been sitting in a plateau for about a week now. I am hoping that having the treadmill will help me break that.

Just thought I should post here.

I joined this team a couple months ago. I was winning at the loosing game. Then, life got in the way. I know. I know. Sad excuse. Long story short, I am now relocated 2,000+ miles away and graduating even earlier than I expected. In August. I only started college in 2007. Now I have an entire year off before Grad School. Scary stuff.

But I just had to say... I am back in the game and looking forward to break out of the 200s!! I will be fit in time to start Graduate School!

Babs - that's good advice for Lipgloss - thanks for sharing!!

Patrick - proud of you -- get back on track!! I have days where I do wonderfully and there's others..like today -- did I mention it included doughnuts :((
(thank you so much for the compliment) I guess I haven't felt very 'leaderish' lately but I am trying my hardest!!

And did everyone see that that Leag has left MORE in the dump?? Sure it was only a small amount but it's better than driving by and PICKING IT UP!!!

Have a good Sunday everyone - I'm off to see family (that I haven't seen in a LONG time) for lunch today and they finally get to meet dh!!! About time since we celebrated our 2nd anniversary in May!!

No QOTHT today -- unless someone would like to start one!

LipGloss - I remember when hubby and I worked nights and we had the same dilemma about when to eat and gave up on it all. We also gained quite a bit of our weight at that time. What we finally realized was we needed our day to be the same as it would have been if we worked a day shift. When we got up, it was morning and we had breakfast. Our lunch break at work was lunch and if we worked longer, a snack and when we got home and had a meal together, that was dinner. In order to stop gaining weight, we had to make it work. You can also start with 10 minutes of exercise in the morning to get you going. Ten minutes will lead to 15 then 20 and then the sky is the limit. Once you see how the exercise makes you feel and how much energy you will have you will want more.

Good luck! It will be so worth it and you will be happy you made the changes!

Meme - you can use a heart rate monitor for any activity you wish!!!

Invest in the chest belt though...

It is the most accurate way to see how your movement effects your heart rate...

Just today I wore mine while walking and as we were approaching a slight slope upward, i could see the heart rate was elevated by about 10 beats per minute.

Then after all is done - you magically get to see how many fat grams your burned, calories burned and average heart rate and max heart rate...

Like I said, I LOVE MINE!!!

I went for a run after getting home from work today. It was hot, with over a 100F heat index. A rain shower came in around 4 and I took the opportunity to run afterward. Perhaps since I have been on my feet all day, shin splints flared up. This is a normal part of me resuming running after a break, so I know just to grin and bear it until they clear up.

Working on drinking H2O today, I probably drank close to 1 gallon over the course of the day. It's nice having a water cooler close by.

Have a good evening!
Patrick

Lip-I totally understand your conflicts between working out and your work schedule. All I can say is I finally just decided to take charge and start up an exercise routine....of course, I say this after only 2 days back in the saddle.

Babs-Your vacations sounds great! It's nice you are working on your fitness goals as a family team. If everyone is on board, it should be a lot smoother.

Peggy-While you may struggle at times with your own motivation, I think I can speak for everyone in saying that you remain a wonderful motivator for the team...thanks for all you do!

Im a CNA and I work a weekend PM program. SO my work week is normaly every saturday through tuesday unless I pick up some extra hours or take some days off. I work alot of 12hr days at my job. So because of the long hours and the fact that I work in the evenings a HUGE!! struggle for me is eating. I feel like im always hungry. Because I work PM's I dont wake up till at least 10am I dont eat usually till 11 or noon. Then I have dinner break at work at 4pm and by the time 10pm comes around and I get home im starving! So I eat again at like 10:30 11 Sometimes at 12:30am when my husband gets home. I usually go to bed at 2am. Iv been doing this job for 2 years now. Before this I worked 1st shift in a factory for 10 years and while working 1st shift I was able to get myself to excersie everyday for an hour or two and eat right and I lost alot of weight and felt good about myself. But since iv started as a CNA I'v had to work PM shifts. Iv gained about 50lbs in the last two years from working PM's and not being able to figure out how to eat and get the engery after a long day to work out or even make myself get up early after working a long shift to work out. All I pretty much do right now is eat sleep and work. I do get 3 days off every week and really have to excuse for not working out on thouse days. But my sleep schedual is the same on my days off so I eat the same way. Ill take any ideas that anyone has to help me with these problems! Im so embarassed of how I look now I really wanna lose the weight.

Good Morning!

Thanks Meme! It wasn't difficult at all to lose on my vacation. We had an amazing time and we worked in a lot of moving. DH and I are working on this new lifestyle together and that makes it easier too.

Speaking of DH, he is doing an amazing job!!! He is down 170 lbs since September...you read right! He created his own plan and is doing so great and I am so very proud of him. Just before our vacation he weighed in for the end of a three month challenge they had at his gym the "Spring Meltdown". He assumed since he didn't hear anything that he didn't win. Yesterday he was told the final numbers aren't out yet but unofficially they believe he is the winner! OMG, I am so incredibly happy for him! He had lost quite a bit before the challenge which made it that much more difficult for him to lose a larger percentage during the challenge. What he didn't realize was the competition wasn't just his gym but all the Fitness 19 gyms in the area...and he has quite possibly won. The prize is a custom bike, which he really needs since he is riding my mother's old bike and practically eating his knees (he's 6' 3" and riding a 24" womens bike...LOL). I'll let you know when we hear the official results.

As for my biggest challenge...WEEKENDS! You wouldn't think so since my vacation went so well, but I have entirely different challenges at home on the weekend because the kids are home (no kids on our vacation) and there is so much going on I don't always make the time to eat when and what I should so I end up grabbing junk. This is something I am really working on. One of the ways I am combating this is I made a list of my trigger foods and we are removing them from the house. No one needs that junk so we shouldn't have it around.

On to the weekend! The kids are still at camp so this should be a good one! emoticon

Well I think Babs deserves the award of the week!! LOSING on a vacation HAS to be one of the toughest things to do AND YOU DID IT!!! A big WOOHOO for you!! That's so awesome!! (but I did get tickled that you peeked in on vacation on the computer!!)

Evelyn -- All I had to do was go in and write the descriptive word in front of the item like if it was Jimmy Dean turkey sausage links -- I just typed Meat - in front of it and then saved...so not real hard.Sure saved me alot of 'looking and remembering!! Neither of which I do very well!!

Patrick -- WOOHOO Day1 of Week 1 -- onward and DOWNward for you young man!! I also like your tip -- I try to do that and use the inbetween ones like a 'snack' makes me feel very undeprived that way -- plus it keeps your blood sugar levels fairly even (if its the right foods!)

Leag -- getting your exercise as soon as you get up (no matter what time!) is GREAT -- I have to talk myself into it I guess and that's prob. my problem if I'd just 'do it' and not think about I'd do better!! Thanks for sharing...

Kelly - you're doing so good and you're right I bet that heart monitor is motivating in itself!! If I wasn't asking for a Wiifit for Christmas I might ask for that!! (You can use it for walking too can't you??)

LipGloss -- since you have such a different schedule than 'usual' what do you find is your biggest challenge????

Which leads me to the next QOTHT!! What IS your biggest challenge?

For myself I'd have to say keeping myself motivated -- I had done so well and then I let the accident give me an excuse for a pity party I guess and getting back on track has been TOUGH!! Feel like weights are dragging me down when I try to come to the computer and post...

Thanks to all those who shared those tips to try to make this journey easier -- keep them coming!!

Hello all!
I'm officially back from vacation and had an amazing time!
This is probably the best vacation ever! To make it even better, I LOST while on vacation!
We biked, walked and took a Tae Kwon Do class together. Don't get me wrong, there was plenty of food and other refreshments, but the exercise took care of all that.
This year is our 25th anniversary and I am working on breaking 200 before our anniversary...I have six months to get there...I'm going to work really hard to get there!

"All glory comes from daring to begin." And each day is a new beginning!

Meme... you bet I am still on track! I may be sleeping in, but as soon as I am out of bed Jillian Michaels is screaming in my ear and kicking my butt! Plus, I've been able to make better, fresher, "cleaner" meals because I actually have time to prepare. It's been a great week so far!

Good Morning! Well, I'm running again. This morning I completed day 1, week 1, of C25K. It felt good being outside exercising again. After I finish here, I'm going to reset my weight-loss tracker.

My tip is to eat 6 small portions throughout the day, if your schedule allows you to. I lost the most weight at the fastest pace this way. Unfortunately, my schedule does not support it now.

Kelly-Awesome goals you have! I've still got to invest in a HR monitor. Tracking my minutes with the Timex and having to hit lap for every interval is not the most fun thing to do. I miss the Garmin's ability to program in the full workout for the day.

Evelyn-Meal planning really works well. Unfortunately, this is not an area we've been very good at.

Peggy-I like your question idea. Learning from others is good.

Meme, that is a great idea! I forget who made it too. Did you have to re-enter everything, or is there a way to edit things already saved in Favorites?
I have the hardest time getting in enough exercise, since I have a desk job. CK2, that was a good idea too.
Planning out meals for the whole day helps me. Then I know what I have to choose from if I get hungry, I shift a food from another meal for a quick snack.

Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels!

My tip of the day is:

Set an amount of minutes to workout each day or week or month.

I don't know what it is, but the days that I workout, the first thing I want to do is track it. I'm not so great at tracking all the food. It is tedious to me...but since I've purchased my heart rate monitor with the chest belt...I always enjoy seeing exactly how many calories I have burned for the day.

My yearly goal is to workout 6,000 minutes.
So far, I've worked out 3,868 minutes.

So for me, tracking fitness minutes is key. Even if its 10 minutes of extra activity a day - track it!

Oh Craft that IS too funny! Hopefully you're right it IS the meds! I stayed the same so I guess I'm kinda stuck for now - I think my body is saying OH NO you don't - we've been through this before and I'm NOT going down there again!! LOL...oh yeah?? That's what you think, Fat!!

Hi Leag...you're still on track I know (or is it hoping) nope I KNOW you still are on track!! And yep that's what I"ve been doing too - sleeping in!!! Plus I take a nap during the day (but that's b/c I stay up til 1 or 2!!!)

Lizzie -howdy girl how did you do this week? I need to go back and see who posted and who didn't!! (I know you did) But then we need to send notes out to those who might have forgotten!!

I'd love to start a question of the hot tub (QOTHT) --even tho not a lot of people post right
now but here goes --
what tip do you have for making this journey easier? (or is that possible?)

I guess I'll start!! Mine is in my tracker --I'm kind of an organizing fanatic if the truth be known (sometimes I spend more time 'organizing' something other than "JUST DO IT" but I digress -- my tip for the tracker
I first started by putting things under brand names like Bob Evans chicken breast or Jimmy Dean Turkey sausage...well you know -- after you get so many items in there -- you forget WHO makes it ....so I came up with the idea (and for all of you who already thought of this -kudos to you!!)) of categories Meat -- Snacks -- Soups --- cereal -- THEN I type Meat - Bob Evans Chicken breast or Meat -- Ocharleys grilled chicken I still have some things to 'organize' like my breads (I use my wheat but I also like rye, banana bread on occ...etc...does that explain it well enough??
So who's next what's your tip for making this journey easier?

LOL, Meme, that IS what happened!! She lost and I didn't. Even better, she prepared the meals. I LIKE having her stay with me!! I hope it was the antibiotics I was on causing the no losing problem. emoticon

Good afternoon everyone -- NICE job Lasttry...I stayed the same but that's ok too!! Just think that's 12 sticks of butter NOT hanging on you now!!

Patrick - that does sound like fun....so there were no ghosties that came out and tried to frighten you?? That would have scared ME!!! When I do exercise I usually go for time b/c I don't have anything to measure distance.

Liz - I'll have to remember that the next time a food jumps out at me and says "EAT ME!"

Evelyn - you may have something there -- get a friend to eat the SAME things you do and then THEY do the counting -- hey I'd kinda like that!!Knowing my luck - they'd lose and I wouldn't!!!

Hey everyone!!!
Make today a great one!
I saw a commercial several months ago, where a lady in a grocery store passes by some desserts and says, "So what you're delicious! I don't HAVE to have you!"
This is what I will tell every unhealthy food that passes my plate!

Happy Monday everyone. I didn't track anything all weekend, again. But, my friend that's staying with me did, and we ate the same things- so I think I did OK! I'm back on today, still no weight loss though. It has been 3 weeks, since I started tracking again, and no loss yet. Something isn't right here! I was on antibiotics for one week, can that effect wt. loss?
I'm not giving up, I am tired of being tubby!

I hope everyone is having a nice weekend. I worked this morning and had to be up at 4. It was pretty painful. I will be off on Mon and Tues next week.

After a lot of thought, I've decided to return to running next week. So, on Monday, I will do week 1, day 1 of C25K. My plan is to just take things one step at a time. One difference will be keeping time without my Garmin. As you may recall, it broke on me last time. I will probably do C25K for time vs. distance this go around.

Savannah's ghost walk was pretty neat. It was a trolley tour, about 1 hour and 20 minutes in duration. During the tour, the driver stopped at a couple of locations for a foot presentation. One of them was actually inside an old building used as a ship fitting office. It freaked my daughter out a bit, but we had a good time.

I'll talk to everyone later.

Hi Rose - nice to have you joining us!! At one time in my life i really thought I wanted a bread maker but I'm such a carboholic -- I'd eat every piece and love it all the way down.....new dh doesn't like bread so much so we stay away from it now most times.

CK -- I read your blog - you DID awesome girl!!! As I've told you my running days are long over but I cheer for those who can and know what work it took for you to get there to be able to do it -- WOOHOO I'm so excited for you!! And congrats on the FOUR lb!!!

Good morning everyone!

I haven't been turning on the computer very much this week as the temps and humidity around here has been waay too high for my liking... yesterday the temps finally went down, but the humidity still was high.. today though.. everything is great! it's only 15 C and NO humidity! wootwoot!! ahhhh I can breathe again, and I feel like exercising again too (first time in about a week).

Ron (my hubby) has his buddy here for the weekend, sawing logs, and just hanging out. I used our new bread maker on the timer today, so they had fresh bread when they were up at 5 am. I have another loaf in baking now, as Ron sliced the first loaf really big (like Texas toast, only bigger ..he found out he can't cut straight with the electric knife at that hour of the morning lol) .. I making this other one, so I can slice them in thinner slices for sandwiches. This morning's loaf was a honey/flour/rye/cornmeal loaf, and this second loaf is a honey/molasses loaf.

Tyler (my son) and I are heading to the library later on.. and to our local farmer's market. I love this time of year with all the fresh produce around. Tomatoes especially! yummmm

not sure whether I'm going to be riding the stationary bike today, or going for a walk with Tyler.. I'm still waiting for him to wake up lol I have no idea how he is still sleeping.. the guys are using the sawmill, just outside Ty's bedroom window.. it's noisey! ohh to be a teenager again, and to be able to sleep through anything! lol

today is supposed to be sunny, and comfortable.. yayyyy! sounds like a good combination for mowing the lawn .. it sure does need it! so I'll be adding that to my exercise quota for today :D

have a fantastic day everyone! hope you are all able to get out and enjoy the day, whatever the weather is!

Good evening....CK -- good luck tomorrow I'm sure we'll all be cheering for you as you run your race tomorrow!! You have to be so proud just to WANT to do it -- Had to smile at your comment that you're 'always lingering' is it lurking or lingering?? LOL

Glad to hear the scale is moving for some of us...I'm just happy I"m still posting! I stayed the same so far but my next weigh in is Monday.
Lasttry -- you may have broken through that barrier!

Leag...did you join our challenge for the next month? I haven't gone by the thread yet to see who's all signed up yet today but we'd love to have you!! No numbers involved (unless you want to) Just put the magic words!

LessofBabs- welcome to the hot tub and our team!! So glad to see you posting!! I have heard of doing that and in some ways (prob. my own little mind) that IS what I do from time to time (or is it me justifying that extra helping??) Well anyway...I believe it works as well. Plus Leag - have you gained some muscle?? That weighs more than fat and it takes awhile for the weight to catch up! What about other indicators - like your clothes?? Are they fitting better or feel looser? Look for some new ways to judge other than that darned scale.....(as I keep saying to myself!!)
Also Babs -- it was just MEANT for you to join our challenge -- I wanted to post it b/f July 1 but we are in the process of some remodeling...uggghhh..and it's just been goofy around here at times -- haven't been able to get into the kitchen to cook for 4 days!! But it's DONE as of today (we carpeted the living room and hallway) but the OTHER rooms were holding the furniture from that room and it was just nuts (and the carpet layers were uhhhmmm, what can I nicely say?? S-L-O-W ???? But I like it and I guess that's all that counts

Hi annie - I saw you sneak in here....you can't hide from me!!

LaLaLauren -- WELCOME -- you kind of snuck in here too -- we hope we can help you be a breaker as well!!
If you haven't seen it -- we DO have a challenge sign up going on now...the 1st weigh in is MOnday...but you can JOIN anytime...

I know this is like three posts in a row, but I just wanted to mention I have a 5k race on Saturday morning @ 9 a.m. I'm actually looking forward to it. It will be the first race my little boys will be there to watch me.

My plan is to do it without stopping to walk. Time is not really a factor but if I can do it in less than 38 minutes...I'll be happy.
