Nicole,
Spark Rally's are usually posted here, and you can also find us on Facebook too. They just had a rally this past weekend. Not sure of the next one in between, but I know we do the Iron Girl in November! Looking forward to meeting you!
Have a great week!

*****NEW DIRECTIONS TO PARKING LOT AT CAMPGROUND WE ARE MEETING AT*****

Hi Sparkers,
Due to space constrictions we have changed our meeting place on Saturday to the Kumeyaay Lake and Day Use Campground at Mission Trails (just down the road from the Visitor Center, or actually closer to the road depending on which way you come from). There is a special Day use parking lot which will ensure we are all in the same place as well. Parking is free. Look for the Blue Poster Board with the SP logos.

DIRECTIONS:
Kumeyaay Lake Campground
Two Father Junipero Serra Trail
San Diego, CA 92119
(619) 668-2748

From Interstate 8 - Take 8 to the Mission Gorge Road/Fairmount Avenue exit. Turn north onto Mission Gorge Road, then east at the Friars Road junction, to stay on Mission Gorge Road. Proceed east on Mission Gorge Road for 6.5 miles, passing both Father Junipero Serra Trail and Golfcrest Drive. Continue east and turn left onto Father Junipero. The entrance to the campground is located two-tenths of a mile at the stop sign on the right.

From Highway 52 - Take 52 to the Mast Blvd. exit in Santee. Turn north onto Mast Blvd. and then right at the 1st traffic signal, onto West Hills Parkway. Take West Hills Parkway to Mission Gorge Road and turn right. Proceed down Mission Gorge Road for two-tenths of a mile, then merge right onto Father Junipero Serra Trail. The entrance to the campground is located two-tenths of a mile down the road on the right, at the stop sign.

From Highway 125 - Take 125 north to Mission Gorge Road and turn left. Proceed west on Mission Gorge Road for two miles and merge right onto Father Junipero Serra Trail. The entrance to the campground is located two-tenths of a mile down the road on the right, at the stop sign.

From Route 15 - Take Route 15 to the Friars Road exit and head east. Friars Road will turn into Mission Gorge Road, which you then follow for about 6.5 miles. After you pass the light at Golfcrest Dr., turn left onto Father Junipero. The entrance to the Kumeyaay Lake Campground is located on the right, at the stop sign.

The walk will accommodate all levels of fitness so come one, come all, it's going to be a great time! Mission Trails is a beautiful place, don't miss out! Feel free to bring friends and family!

The potluck will commence once we return from our hike/walk. Please bring a dish to share for 8-10 people, with serving utensils (if needed). Also bring your own (for yourself) eating utensils.

If you have any questions or concerns, please Spark mail ABB698 or KSANDIEGO.

Looking forward to seeing you all there! Spark on!

Looks like I'm going to miss out on Saturday.

Came down with a cold yesterday, and sitting here with more congestion than I thought possible.

Y'all have fun, and each take an extra scoop of food for me. Wah!!!

I'm not sure we can just use that room inside the center without some sort of permission/reservation, and I don't think it's available for people just to eat in. Besides, it's indoors and we are going there to enjoy the beautiful outdoors =) Let's meet at the Campground in the Day Use lot and we can hike around there, and to the Dam. The guided tours might crossover to where we'd be near the V.C. as well, so the Dam may be a better choice overall. That way, one drive, one park, covered picnic area, easy access to our potluck dishes, restrooms and way less crowded than the Visitors Center. We will pretty much have that parking lot to ourselves based on what I saw this weekend (and I was there Sat & Mon). I will type up the directions when I get home tonight and make a new post. Looking forward to seeing you all!

Personally I would prefer not to have to park twice. I don't want to have to get in and out of my car multiple times. I'd rather drive where we are going to have the potluck, park - and then hike from there.

I participate in a group that meets in one of the classrooms in the interpretive/visitors' center (yes, they are one) where we have tables, chairs, counter space and a sink. I don't think they pay to use it because the group is open to the community (as we are). Just a thought.

The interpretive center and the Visitor Center are one in the same?
Yes, let's still meet at the Visitor Center. I was there yesterday, and the area with the benches I was thinking for the potluck was very small and crowded, no place to set out dishes out...so I was thinking after the hike/walk, we could drive down the road to the Campground for the potluck. They have a day use parking lot and a picnic area overlooking the lake that is shaded and beautiful and right near the less crowded bathrooms as well. The drive to the campground is so scenic and really gives you an idea of just how large Mission Trails is. Thoughts?

I think parking in the dirt lot next to the interpretive center is the easiest place to park. But I'll park wherever you say! The potluck is at the interpretive center, right?

Hey you all - I'll be in sewing class today so I won't be on here, but I want you all to talk about where you want to park & hike with ABB698 -- she has the low-down on the parking situation at Mission Trails -- so let's get that issue down today so we can get every one on the same page -- thanks - KD

Oh my heavens - so many spinach haters - LOL
Having lived down south, I learned the key to great tasting spinach.... use fresh baby spinach, use a tiny bit of butter/oil and just a 1/2 tsp of garlic, sautee the spinach just until barely wilted. That creates a MUCH sweeter tasting spinach that doesn't come near the sometimes bitter flavor from frozen spinach. Use salt to your own taste.
There is a real difference in taste between fresh baby spinach and frozen - check for yourselves.

He'll give in Betty.

Personally, I don't like spinach either...when served by itself. But I'm fine with it stuffed in other things...like lasagna!

I'm putting my foot down on this one. I'm making it! He can pick out the spinach, not eat at all, or fend for himself. emoticon Since he doesn't eat unless I make him something anyway.

KINGB2006, do you and him like any other types of greens? Like kale, collard greens, swiss chard, or even [baby] bok choy? If you pre-cook them a little before stuffing them in the chicken, I'm sure they'll be a fine substitute for spinach and still have a lot of good vitamins and minerals.

This is an off the wall question but do any of you have spouses or significant others that won't eat a certain veggie that you love? Mine won't eat Spinach. I really want to make the spinach stuffed pork tenderloin from the Cookbook. What should I do?

Oh, if I tell you his favorite foods are chocolate chip cookies and chocolate mint ice cream then someone will surely spill the beans and say something to him about my posts here. He hates for me to talk about him. Actually, he really likes healthy foods too. He says he's a reincarnated Chinese fisherman because he love fish and rice. He was always thin without trying but now he's getting fat. I don't want to do anything to discourage him from wanting to improve his health, so I am happy to compromise and just walk with him sans potluck. Thanks for the offer! Maybe after a few walks he'll loosen up.

I am a little bummed, but still looking forward to meeting people! My curmudgeonly husband is going to walk with us, but he is so not a people person that we compromised and we won't be staying for the potluck where he might have to ... ahem ... engage. Oh, he'd kill me if he knew I'd posted this! I guess I'd better be careful in the future!! LOL

The hike (which is more like an upgraded walk, so don't worry that you can't keep up) is about an hour, then we're having a potluck afterwards. Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Does everyone know what they are bringing? I am looking at bringing deviled eggs. Found a spark recipe that got really good reviews. I would make them my way but totally not a spark recipe. Also thinking about bringing a gallon of water. I have plenty of cups so I'll bring them too.

I have no idea where Dictionary Hill is either.... I'm in La Mesa, but Clairemont is only 10 min away from me (I drive out there weekly), so I don't mind picking you up, Jill. Just let me know. I am so looking forward to this!

Pescadorian, I'm not sure where that is. I'm in North Clairemont. K, I might be able to take a bus to Fashion Valley itself. I'll have to figure out how to transport my chili! ;-)

I am a brand new member and would love to join you. Saturdays are my "date with Hubby" days and I hope i can convince him this will make a great date. He doesn't need a shirt that reads "Do I LOOK like a people person?" because his face says it all, but he's my curmudgeon and I've loved him for 32 years! He just is very quiet, really and I am the opposite! I love to meet new people!

JillyBean, I am coming from Dictionary Hill, if I come. Am I anywhere near you?

It is my ambition to lead a quiet life minding my own business and working hard. 1Thessalonians 4:11

If I can find a way to get there, I will be more than happy to bring my vegan lentil chili and maybe some baked potatoes or something to eat with it. Aw, yeah!

Right now it appears we will not be able to make it. I volunteer for Computers2sdkids and they are having an event that morning. If they happen to cancel it, sometimes they do, I will update later. Will miss you all. Linda

Awesome K, thanks for posting this! (Leah, can you please post this rally in Spark America?) Thanks! :)

Technically, the Amphitheater is to the RIGHT of the Visitors Center, but in reference to the space we are meeting in, it's to the left ;)
Look for the Blue SP Poster emoticon

If your potluck item needs to stay cold, please bring an ice chest, as it may (hopefully will) be a warm day, and it will need to remain in your car while we hike/walk.

Looking forward to it, and meeting some more SD Sparkers!
